Redskins Rush Analysis

Here's a look at how the Redskins got after Tony Romo on his 33 pass drops Sunday – not including penalties where the play was wiped out (i.e. Crayton interference call) or a swing pass to Marion Barber in the second half that was counted as a run:

3-man pressure: 2 of 33 snaps (2 first half/0 second half)
4-man pressure: 19 of 33 snaps (8/11)
5-man pressure: 6 of 33 snaps (4/2)
6-man pressure: 4 of 33 snaps (3/1)
7-man pressure: 2 of 33 snaps (2/0)

ROMO NUMBERS
First Half

Vs. 3-man pressure: 2-2, 9 yards, TD
Vs. 4-man pressure: 6-8, 40 yards
Vs. 5-man pressure: 2-4, 19 yards
Vs. 6-man pressure: 2-3, 11 yards, INT
Vs. 7-man pressure: 2-2, 28 yards
Second half
Vs. 3-man pressure: 0-0
Vs. 4-man pressure: 8-11, 186 yards, 3 TDs
Vs. 5-man pressure: 0-1; sack
Vs. 6-man pressure: 0-1
Vs. 7-man pressure: 0-0
Overall
Vs. 3-man pressure: 2-2, 9 yards, TD
Vs. 4-man pressure: 14-19, 226 yards, 3 TDs
Vs. 5-man pressure: 2-5, 19 yards; sack
Vs. 6-man pressure: 2-4, 11 yards, INT
Vs. 7-man pressure: 2-2, 28 yards

WHAT IT MEANT: One thing that was positively perplexing was how, the Redskins only sent extra guys on three second-half plays, even though those three plays produced a sack and two incompletions. A reason why? Go back to the Cowboys’ last drive of the first half. On that march, the Redskins sent four guys once, seven guys once, and five, six and three guys two times each. And Romo went 7-for-8 for 54 yards and the touchdown. That’ll do plenty to get a defense to back off on its rush, but it’s still amazing that the Redskins could be that conservative with their pressure – especially when you consider how well Romo played after the break.
