Romo's stats rank as Mount Rushmore's best

Superstar columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor anointed Tony Romo as the Cowboys' latest franchise quarterback. The column was accompanied on today's SportsDay cover by an illustration of the Cowboys' franchise QB version of Mount Rushmore, featuring Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Dandy Don Meredith and Romo.

I figured this would be a fine time to compare Romo's stats from this season to the career years of the three other fellas featured on the mountain. Romo has thrown for 2,848 and 27 TDs after today's 293-yard, four-TD performance.

Aikman (1992) -- 3,445 yards and 23 TDs

Staubach (1979) -- 3,586 yards and 27 TDs

Meredith (1966) -- 2,805 yards and 24 TDs

Danny White didn't make Mount Rushmore, but he holds Cowboys records with the 3,980 yards and 29 TDs he threw for in 1983. For now, at least.

I wonder how many people remember how Danny White was also our punter, on occasion. Or the few times he ran for a 1st down, instead of punting it.

That being said, he couldn't get us to the big game, and with stats like he had, he should have. I still get a sick feeling in my stomach when I see "The Catch".

Since T-Mac was too lazy to do the math, Romo's projected finishing stats would be:

4556 yds
43 TDs

I know this Blog Post is about Tony Romo, and I love him, however I am Sick And Tired Of Watching Roy Williams hurt the Dallas Cowboys Defense. He is Truly a "LIABILITY" in Defensive Coverage and I can't "Possibly" see how the Dallas Cowboys can compete for a "Super Bowl" This year with him in the Defensive Secondary.

I often wondered if they could just move him to a line backer maybe he wouldn't stick out like a "Sore Thumb" as much, however in thinking about further I come to the rationalization that how can they move him to a line backer when line backers cover tight ends and "HE CAN'T DO THAT NOW"

MEMO TO JERRY JONES AND WADE PHILLIPS:

BENCH HIM BEFORE IT"S TO LATE, BECAUSE WE CAN'T AND I REPEAT CAN'T COMPETE FOR A "SUPER BOWL" WITH HIM IN COVERAGE. I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I HAVE EVEN SEEN HIM DEFLECT A PASS.

JERRY & WADE HELP, COWBOY NATION IS COMPLETELY IN PAIN WATCHING HIM GET "TORCHED" WEEK AFTER WEEK!

Hey, NTouch. Go easy on those quote marks and capital letters.

Why is Danny White not mentioned? Not because of the lack of Super Bowl ring: Jim Kelly and Dan Marino were definite franchise QBs. Elway would have been even if he hadn't won those two rings late in his career. McNabb is.

Yes, I remember lots of pain in those days, too. But Danny was our man for many years. How many NFC championships did he take us to?

He would perhaps get the respect he deserved if there was another QB between him and Staubach.
