Friends and family members blew up T.O.'s cell phone yesterday after Terry Bradshaw said on Fox's pregame show that he wasn't buying the Original 81's good-guy act. "Well, guess what, Terry Bradshaw? It's not for sale," T.O. said today, staring into a bunch of cameras in front of his locker. "You know what I mean? So, whatever you're trying to sell to the audience out there, I hope they're not buying it as well." Cowboys fans should be thankful for T.O. doubters like Bradshaw. Comments like that fuel T.O.'s determination to prove what a great team guy he is. Question his sincerity if you're into nitpicking, but T.O. has been pretty much a model teammate since he surprised people by practicing during Wade Phillips' first minicamp, just weeks after he had hand surgery. Probably not a coincidence that he's having the best season of his Hall of Fame-caliber career. |

I urge everyone on this blog who calls himself(herself)a Cowboys Fan to boycott(will not use his first name)Mr. Aikman and the local businesses who employ him as their spokesperson. After yesterdays patently offensive commentary on the Fox broadcast of the game( I thought he was bad before, but yesterday takes the cake)I have ZERO respect for him, and the good people of the Metroplex should NOT continue to pad his wallet by patronizing his Ford dealership, or anything else he promotes.

didn't Aikman lose a few million on that dealership

I turned off the sound right after opening kickoff. I can't stand Joe Buck and Troy has the " I love to hear myself talk" disease.
TO has to realize that it will take time to win over the people that have hated him.

what did i miss? what did aikman say that was so offensive?
Posted by Nathan @ 3:43 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Hey Paulov,
I won't dismiss your rant entirely, but I am intrigued concerning which particular portions of Mr. Aikman's commentary rubbed you the wrong way. Personally, I didn't like either of the announcers continually proclaiming the game all but over despite the fact the Redskins had several forthcoming opportunities to win it. All that said, Mr. Aikman could sit in that booth and forget how to use the english vocabularly all together, and any true Cowboy fan would continue to have respect for what he did for this franchise. You think any Pats fans are going to respect Brady any less if he and Giselle do a bad reality show 10 years from now?
Posted by Chris/Denton @ 3:47 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Let's see, Bradshaw says "I'm not buying it" and Collinsworth says "I'm proud of T.O and the mature leader he's become." I'll go with Collinsworth.

ATTA BOY T.O.
Great Comeback. Terry is just trying to "sell tickets" so to speak.
Has anyone noticed how Jimmy Johnson has gone out of his way to be complimentory to Wade Phillips since his blowup about Kevin Burnett when he said "You cant have a relaxed atmosphere"
Both before and after the game Sunday he had "nice things" to say about Phillips. Thats as close as you will get to Jimmy admitting he was wrong about something.
You know its too bad that some of the guys we liked the most, Jimmy, Aikman, and even Moose and Emmitt are becomming pretty damn unpopular locally, and don't tell me we are just being homers to think that way. These guys are so determined not to be bias toward their old teams they have gone too far the other direction.

Firstly, I believe I read where TROY'S Ford place is out of business.
Secondly, when are some of you people going to grow a brain? Aikman isn't paid to be a Cowboys cheerleader. He's supposed to give his opinion as he sees it, on the spot, when it happens. And while we Cowboys fan got to celebrate a win over the Redskins there was plenty for a fan to get bent over during the game. Doesn't make us less a fan, just passionate about the team.
Aikman's doing his job and he does it pretty well. Grab some pompoms and get mad at someone else
Posted by TJ Kulig @ 3:50 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Not to mention, I think the season the other 81 is having helps the fuel to the fire. Albeit, he'd still be productive if he were alone on top of the league, now he just has one more thing to prove (on top of the many other issues people had/continue to have).
Go on T.O. Baby, run your game.

Ah Rick, nice of you to TRY and put your "Democratic" spin on things. You know, the facts are right there in front of you but you spew your garbage anyway, ignoring any opinions except your own.
No one said he had to cheer for the Cowboys, it's his NEVER-ending compliments to the team opposite the Cowboys that drives fans nuts. You know, like Romo has 4 TD's, Skins QB has 2 but Aikman NEVER even mentions Romo's name instead talking for over 2 quarters of play how wonderful the OTHER guy is? Buy a vowel, buy a clue or better yet just stay off the blog. You can go hug your Hillary blow-up doll now.

I apologize, Chris. I didn't realize that Aikman went two entire quarters without mentioning Romo's name. I say we take him down from the Ring of Honor and get him out of the Hall of Fame!
Posted by Old_Fan @ 4:16 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Mr. Owens' performance on and behavior off the field are impressive this year, no doubt; credit him, Coach Phillips and Coach Garrett -- but don't not-credit Mr. Romo. It takes two to make such a combination work so well.
PS: want better announcers? Brad Sham & Babe Laufenberg!

I rest my case and thanks for helping me prove my point. I use ONE example and you try and make out it's the ONLY point. Like I said before, Aikman has been snubbing the Cowboys for the last 2 seasons but I DOUBT you know that since I haven't seen you on this blog before so I'm sure you're a fair-weather fan that just popped out of the closet now that they are playing well. Let me guess, the Colts were your favorite team last year? Run along now, don't you have a soldier to spit on?
Posted by Rick @ 4:30 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Yep, first time to blog on this site. Never felt compelled until I read what I read. And no, I'm having too much fun getting under your skin to leave anytime soon. Are you holding your breath and stomping your feet yet?
Romo and Owens are providing more fun than any Cowboys combination in years. And Owens is feeding off of his success every week. This is a great team to watch.

I'm going to try to play devil's advocate here. Please bear with me.
Suppose you're Troy Aikman, newly-retired, and looking for a way to stay close to the game. You're well-spoken, presentable and have name-recognition, so that takes you straight to the broadcasting booth.
Your employer covers the conference you used to play in, and covers the most popular teams (including your old team). So you do the commentary for a *lot* of Cowboy games, and since you know the division well, you end up doing a lot of Philly, New York, and Redskin games too.
Early on in your career, you praise those who deserve it, and chastise those who don't. Problem is, your old team is pretty good, so you end up praising them a lot. But then viewers in other regions start to complain to the network, stating that "Troy's a homer" and favors his old team too much. So the network execs pull him aside and say "hey, Troy, lay off the Cowboy praise - we're losing viewership in all these other key areas".
The math says that if you heap praise on the opposing teams, your network viewership in those areas will go up, and your employer won't lose too many Cowboy audiences because they'll watch games no matter what. But that means that you'll have to heap some extra praise on some people who may not deserve it. (aside: Clinton Portis?! Are we to believe Clinton Portis is his favorite player?!? I would have bet my left *** that he'd say Jason Witten or Favre or someone decent).
Now, since you're not loud and obnoxious, you can't leave the booth for a "talking-head" show like the Fox halftime or pregame shows. The alternative is that you go to smaller venues where you can express your true observations and insight, but that would result in a huge paycut. So you agree to it and say "ok, I'll do it, just add an extra zero to my check".
That's my attempt at being the devil's advocate. The only other explanation I have is that Troy's just gone bonkers. Remember, he *has* had a lot of concussions.
Posted by Chris/Denton @ 5:03 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Ap, that's not really a valid argument since the Cowboys have NOT been very good since Aikman left the Cowboys up until this year. I think the "he's just gone bonkers" explanation holds more merit. =)
Posted by ap @ 5:09 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Heh, Chris/Denton, I guess not - Still, hope everyone got a good laugh out of it!
Posted by KR @ 5:31 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Chris/Denton that's some funny stuff. Rick's watching the ClintonNewsNetwork(CNN) on the TV and listening to Air America on the radio right now so he wont post for awhile. Anyone who has half a brain can see that Aikman has an anti-Cowboys slant. I had to hit the mute button during the second half, I couldn't take it anymore.
Posted by Stylebunny in LA @ 5:33 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
I usually like the Buck/Aikman broadcast team when it doesn't involve the Cowboys. Troy used to explain the thinking that went into plays and how quarterbacks act within the play, and really disected from both sides. I learned a lot from him. This year, he seems to be sliding into the "love to hear myself talk" pit like many other announcers instead of offering interesting analysis, and he does seem to be over-compensating in an attempt to be "non-biased".
And, like John Madden, a lot of the broadcast teams select their "man-crush" player of the game and swoon over his every move, so I guess yesterday was Portis's turn.
Posted by PMS @ 5:47 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Aikman Ford IS shutting its doors before the end on the month. The DM News reported it last week.
As for his commentary, you should know better than to listen to ANYTHING any FOX announcer/newsreader says.
Posted by James @ 6:16 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Daniel:
I thought it was just me! Aikman must have had one too many concussions in his last few seasons. I, for one, think he has jealousy over Tony Romo and his success; not only on the field but as a positive, upbeat and charismatic QB. Aikman rarely smiled and has zero charisma. Troy, if you are reading this, take note: Tony Romo will surpass you on every level as long as he is healthy. If Fox does not replace Aikman for the Cowboy games in the future, I will mute the tv and turn on the radio. Get over it.

This blog is about T.O.:
Mr. Owens, I hated you that day you stood on the star at mid-field with your hands in the air; I laughed my a#@ off when George Teague took you out. You became a Dallas Cowboy and I was sick to my stomach. After seeing you play for the past two seasons with heart and passion, you have won my respect. Godspeed T.O.
Posted by John @ 6:49 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
T.O. was unstoppable yesterday. I hated him as a 49er and as an Eagle, but as a Cowboy, he's ok.
As for Aikman, he was a great QB, but as an announcer, he's just not very good. You can't do everything well.
Posted by Pokes @ 7:00 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Bradshaw couldn't spell T.O., even if you spotted him the T and the O

Terry Bradshaw... definitely a NFL winner, but given his own personal demons, why should he think his damn opinion matters?

In other news, Randy Moss has been named the media's NFL Man Of The Year.
TO has done a lot of stupid stuff, but he never spit in anybody's face or dogged it on the football field.

Posted by Rob Miles @ 8:13 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Actually, Owens did spit in another man's face; Deangelo Hall, last year. Owens admitted it post-game, then later said it was accidental. Whatever, but he did do it.
Now, he has in all other respects been a pretty good team player. Even last year, the few outbursts he had were based on his not being used to his ability. So, I respect Owens now more than I did two years ago. I'm glad he's playing for us now, instead of for someone we have to play against.
Oh, and has anyone noticed that Roy Williams hasn't been the force he made his reputation on since they outlawed the horse-collar tackle?
Posted by Jay @ 8:23 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
Hey people...you guys and gals that complain about Aikman. I understand what you are saying, but you have to realize he is telling a story as it happens. And no one like to hear good things about the team you just seem not able to put away.
Listen with your ears (and brain) not with you heart.
Romo isn't new anymore...Hr's a great QB and everyone knows it. Jason Campbell throwing for 300+ yards and keeping the Skins in the game is. He likes Portis because he can pick up the blitz (That's a suprise)...nothing out on a limb...just some good observations. That's it.
Lighten up Francis!

Ease up on Troy. He's only doing his job. If a CEO of some major firm retired and became a consultant or analyst and always harped on his ex-company what would that do for his credibility?
The Cowboys are 9-1. Let that speak for itself. What does it matter if the rest of the country is jumping on the bandwagon? Be glad the Cowboys are back in the mix of things and seem to be set for a pretty entertaining future cause if they happen to fall back into mediocrity those bandwagoners will be the first to say "I told you they were a fluke, Romo was a one-hit-wonder, T.O was a cancer, Roy sucks, Newman isn't a pro-bowler, etc...."
why do we need anyone to stroke our egos by going ga ga over our Cowboys?
ENJOY THE WINS. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ENJOY ANY AMOUNT OF DOMINANCE.
GO COWBOYS!!!
btw, Aikman Ford IS closing but they weren't bankrupt. the DMN article had Troy as saying they were 'breaking even'...or something like that

This is funny. Aikman is a great color guy in the booth but is very anti Cowboys. Take the comment that the Boys should not have a home game before the Thanksgiving game. Well he didnt b**ch when he was here about it. Besides that it just was not rellivant to the Skins game and the Thanksgiving game is on CBS. Why does he care is my problem. Just shut up and call the game in front of you. The other comment was that Clinton Portis is his favorite player. uh what? He is an underachieving always hurt never has been. Troy is just trying to hard to be unbiased when it comes to the Cowboys and its starting to piss off his Dallas Cowboy fans. Dont forget who made you rich Troy. His name is Jones, Jerry Jones
Posted by chad @ 10:30 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
The only ex Cowboy who was a joy to listen to was Michael Irvin. He LOVES the Boys and Jerry Jones and didnt care who knew it. Bradshaw you should just take with a grain of salt. He is just trying to be funny thats all. Fox pregame is the best by a mile. You want to hear anti Cowboy listen to Meshawn on ESPN. Meshawn and Shannon Sharpe should have to at least be able to write or talk in full sentences. They cant . They wont
Posted by Craig @ 10:31 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
All opinions are worth 2 cents and only that;
All players have an ego- Troy not withstanding. That said, Troy aikman is a good analyst; He has to be objective; THe FACT is that Cowboy fans approach the Yankee and Red Sox aura: in that they are in the Super Bowl without even playing to get there. They could lose in 2 weeks, or they could lose in the playoffs- We haven't sealed it JUST yet; It has been 10 years since they last won a playoff. Enjoy the first 10 weeks- they are 9-1 and be happy;
And No, Troy shouldn't lose his spot in the Ring of Honor. Enjoy and leave the hate for that mizzou woman in Ft. Worth.....
Posted by chad @ 10:42 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
He should call the game your right there but he said the Cowboys should play on the road before a home Thanksgiving game. What made that rellivant in that game NOTHING !! That is a biased opinion to me
Posted by davej @ 10:51 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
I still don't fully trust Terrell Owens OFF THE FIELD. After what he has done the past few season to his team, it will take me a long time before I trust him.
Even with his wonderful performance this year, I still would have preferred the Cowboys not sign him when they did. I would have preferred our awesome GM doing his job and drafting a WR when he should have.
Posted by davej @ 10:54 PM Mon, Nov 19, 2007
I don't know how we got on this Aikman tangent, but I don't enjoy him in the booth because he doesn't tell you anything. He doesn't give any analysis or opinion that I can't get from any guy on a barstool. I wish Aikman would say something from that Hall of Fame brain of his because I'm sure he knows more than what he is saying.

HELLO? The reason for this post was to bash on Terry Bradshaw not Troy Aikman. How easy is it to pick on Terry "numbnuts" Bradshaw. Does anyone remember his acting career? Well, I use the word acting lightly since being a stuttering drunk idiot in Cannonball Run is not a stretch for Bradshaw. No wonder he couldn't stay married, he was stupid enough to keep trying and just giving away his money. What a retard. Great movie though.
Posted by James @ 10:02 PM Tue, Nov 20, 2007
Okay, I will say this about Aikman; when Irvin was going through his trial, Aikman showed up. That took courage. But as far as being a commentator, Troy is below average IMHO.
