With a long list of wounded this week, there could be a shakedown on the 45-man gameday roster on Saturday in Carolina. Here's a look at what happens if any of these guys can't go: QB Tony Romo: He's expected to play, so it probably won't be an issue. If he can't because of his injured thumb, Brad Johnson gets the call. In the unlikely case that happens, the Cowboys would be woefully short at QB. Would Richard Bartell be signed from the practice squad for a week as the backup? Would college QBs Isaiah Stanback or Patrick Crayton be the emergency guy? S Patrick Watkins: With his injury compounded by the loss of Roy Williams, it's likely that Keith Davis gets the start at strong safety, alongside Pro Bowler Ken Hamlin. What's real interesting is the nickel defense situation. Does Courtney Brown play deep, with Davis at Roy's nickel linebacker spot? Or does Bobby Carpenter, Akin Ayodele or Bradie James play alongside Kevin Burnett in that package? C Andre Gurode: Cory Procter's in line to start at center, and he'll be backed up by Joe Berger, who will likely dress for the second time this year. WR Terry Glenn: This would be if he does play, and not if he doesn't. If he's in there, it'll likely be on a limited basis, with more snaps to come in Washington. Like we've said here before, they'll probably try to ramp him up a bit before the playoffs. |

It's simple. If Bobby Carpenter can't play more this week, the dude needs to be cut in the offseason. He gets his chances in practice to show something and apparently doesn't. I mean, we all thought Burnett was a bust and he's been solid this year. Carpenter needs to either do it or get out.

In the case of Romo, and a possible QB shortage, don't forget, we have Matt Moore as our 3rd QB,........What?.....we don't?
Surely we do. We wouldn't let a talented guy like that get away would we?

i AGREE , BIGGEST MISTAKE KEEPING BRAD JOHNSON.
WHO WAS THE IDIOT THAT LET THAT HAPPEN !! WE MAY
REALLY COME TO REGRET THAT MOVE

Does this maybe answer some questions as to why Roy Williams seemed very tentative this year? Maybe the letter from the league that they were going to suspend him was for any illegal hit, like crushing a receiver coming accross the middle. The big hits just have not happened this year and I think we now know why.

I think Crayton would have to get the nod as emergency QB just because he would have more knowledge of the offense than any other option, including Bartell. Right, insiders?

This is the week we will see a halfback or wide receiver throw the ball. Craytom to T.O.

ZDogg,
When are you RW apologists going to give it up? The man is one of the most over-rated safeties in the league, it is a fact......please move on...his coverage skills are non-existant, the voters finally got it right this year......the league office does not line-up and play on Sundays!!!

You left out the possibility of Tony Romo throwing left handed.
Or how about Jason Garret? He knows the offensive play book (I think).
Bottom line is that we are without a backup QB that can pass. If Romo can't play, we're screwed.

When did Brad Johnson become a bad backup?? I agree that I wouldnt want him running things for an extended period of time but 1 game against an offensively-challenged team when we should get back to running the ball anyway?? I see no reason to play romo in this game if he can't throw accurately. I don't think that Johnson would have stunk up the joint as badly as Romo did Sunday and we need his thumb to get better, especially for the last game of the year when we may need a win to clinch home field throughout against an improving Washington team at home fighting for their playoff lives. Johnson should be getting a ton of reps this week.
Also...could this be the week we see Bobby Carpenter on the field?? I doubt that they'd play C Brown in lieu of BC if they go to that extra safety package being that Brown hasn't even been activated for most of the year.
