Keyshawn's response to T.O. really stinks

12:00 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Give ESPN credit for showing great restraint with the T.O.-Keyshawn-Tuna love/hate triangle story. Our Disney pals didn't even dedicate five full minutes of SportsCenter to this sensationalizable story.

Keyshawn explained that he was just trying to give T.O. good advice on not tangling with an "old legendary icon coach," which Keyshawn learned the hard way in Tampa Bay. He vowed to explain things "in more elementary terms" from now so T.O. might be able to understand.

Not sure if Keyshawn was rattled by the realization that T.O. has scored twice as many TDs as him, but I found the following statement to be a bit too revealing about the former No. 1 overall pick.

"People have always told me that one thing that you never want to do is get into a [urinating] match with a skunk, because they’ll [urinate] all over you, and you’ll like it," Keyshawn said. "And they’ll like it, better yet."

This looks like and attempt to get TO to come apart at the seams that is going to fall flat.

Posted by Jrs2300 @ 1:02 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Yeah... T.O. needs to not even respond to Keyshawn on that one.. he needs to speak on the field while every single sports channel including Keyshawns Rave about him all day long... including Super Bowl. that's how you shut up a HATER like Keyshawn.. have the MEDIA prove T.O. is great.. and Keyshawn will be in a Boat full of his own ah ah Irine ??

As for Not speaking about a Legend Coach.. Man Parcells isn't his coach anymore.. and T.O. has the biggest stamp of protection anyone could have JERRY JONES... T.O. has nothing to worry about .. it's not like Parcells can stop this TRAIN TO THE HALL OF FAME for T.O.

Posted by ralph0021 @ 1:14 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

key is just hatin because he's not here for this ride, if i remember he was hatin on romo earlier this year so all he's proven is that his big mouth does not know what comes out of it obviously! go cowboys, we'll see what key has to say when we get to arizona.

Posted by Don @ 1:45 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

T.O. is being good and they can't handle that, so they have to find a way to get him started. Sure Parcells put the team together, but only a idiot would give him credit for the success of the 2007 Cowboys over Wade. Last year is always blamed on one play, Parcells guys fail to talk about how the team started off strong and they played bad to close out the season.

Posted by Habib @ 1:56 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

KJ was an average player and is a lousy TV man.T O will be a HOFer.

Posted by jtt @ 2:53 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Who cares about KJ's comments..........and the subsequent TO response (some of it was entertaining)??

TO needs to keep his mouth shut from here on out and keep running his routes the way he has been, he will then garner all the glory he craves!

Posted by Jeff @ 5:06 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I can't get passed this skunk thing. KJ said:

"People have always told me that one thing that you never want to do is get into a [urinating] match with a skunk, because they’ll [urinate] all over you, and you’ll like it," Keyshawn said. "And they’ll like it, better yet."

OK. Here is the part I disagree with. I will NOT like it if a skunk takes a drip on me, no matter HOW much Keyshawn may enjoy it. Now back to our regularly scheduled insulting:

Posted by Moronbusters @ 5:56 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Keyshawn's non-johnson (yes, the man is dickless) caused the skunk wee to dribble down his legs into his shoes. We shall have to captcha this moron along with his nikes and place him into the containment tank.

This is all ESPN's doings. Trying to tick Owens off so he can hopefully saying something, anything.

They need this kind of garbage to lead off their sportscasts.

They pulled the same crap when Owens was with the Eagles.

ESPN, stay the hell out of Dallas!!!!!!

Go huddle in Boston!!!

Posted by thepainster @ 6:13 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

"People have always told me that one thing that you never want to do is get into a [urinating] match with a skunk, because they’ll [urinate] all over you, and you’ll like it," Keyshawn said. "And they’ll like it, better yet."

They just replayed this quote on Mike and Mike. ESPN and Keyshawn must have realized his original quote did not make sense. So they obviously let him retape the last sentence. It was changed to,

"...because they’ll [urinate] all over you, and they’ll like it,"

Posted by D-Money @ 6:17 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Key should not worry about skunks. There is no animal on Earth that would come close to that loud, ugly vest he is wearing. Made me feel like going on a picnic.

Posted by redbeard @ 6:37 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

" When Parcells was told of Owens' comments on a Philadelphia radio station Wednesday, he said, "Tell him there's two people happier. He's not the only one happier.""
---------------
hey bill, there's more than two people happier, there's thousands - the fans!

Posted by Greg @ 6:45 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

This is proof again how much the media plays in trying to get TO involved in something so they can later report, "TO... blah, blah, blah.."

They tried it when Parcells was here and it didn't work. They need to focus in on fake boy Brady. Why won't they go after him and ask him what he is thinking when a receiver drops a pass and he is going off? What about the FG kicker when he missed that FG against the Steelers and he is having his spoiled boy tantrum on the sideline.

The hand is fixed and ya'll noticed no reports of drops this season? mmmmm.... media is desperate to find something on this guy.

TO you continue to maintain my man.
Your production AND attention that helps to drive up production in other places speaks for itself.

Key likes skunk urine.

Posted by Creth Davis @ 7:47 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

also-

Key needs to finally lose the Theo Huxtable "mustache" and the ESPN producers need to wise up and realize that Key is stupid. He's about as eloquent as Emmitt Smith.

Posted by Old Hap @ 7:55 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Yes, it's a deliberate attempt to get TO to slip up and say the wrong thing. He's getting prety good at seeing that BS coming and avoiding it. ESPN would love nothing more than to have "The Continuing Saga of TO ". I guess E-S-skunkPee-N is looking for stories other places than New England since CBS is now The Cheatriots network of choice.
They have to feel dissed at the joint venture between Robert Kraft and CBS.

Posted by Ray @ 8:08 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

TO should focus on the task at hand and not some stupid questions from a "wingding" reporter and some worthless comments from a washed up receiver.

Posted by Robert @ 8:18 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Meshawn has always had an inflated sense of self-worth and a way too high opinion of himself. He should understand that we've seen them both play. TO wins hands down.

Posted by Chris/Denton @ 8:27 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I really don't like any of this trash talking by Cowboys players (Crayton, Newman, B. James ect) and hope that they along with T.O will not go down that path anymore. Not responding to comments like the ones Meshawn have been making or just laughing it off like Owens did to Bradshaw's comment makes them look stupid and a non-issue. Focus on the next game like you have been all season and let your play speak for itself. Remain humble and show some class...please.

Posted by DMN Dave Smith @ 8:35 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Long live T.O. I was leaping gazelle-like about my HDTV room when Bill Below Par resigned. What an over-rated nothing with no clue about the NFL in 2007. Thank God Wade Phillips has a clue and Bill Below Par is long, long gone.

Posted by Mike @ 8:48 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

This opens up a lot of possibilities for a touchdown celebration dance. Anyone have a skunk hat TO can wear during pregame warm-ups?

Posted by Fonix @ 8:59 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Seems that even some of espn's writers don't agree with keyshawn on this. Read the Hasmarks by Matt Mosley. A few excerpts:

"T.O. was responding to comments Johnson made Sunday suggesting that Bill Parcells deserves more credit than he's received for the Cowboys' 12-1 record. Owens saw the comment for what it was: a vicious personal attack against his manhood."

"For years, he explained to me why he was perhaps the most underappreciated receiver of all-time, and I eventually agreed so that we could move on to other topics, such as Jon Gruden's deficiencies as a human."

"'Those guys are probably talking about me, chopping it up, drinking coffee," Owens said. "They can have their little pity party and talk about me all day long. It doesn't bother me. There's a lot of people on the ESPN panel and across the country that has observed what has happened this year versus last year. And there's a lot of people that just don't want to give credit for what Wade [Phillips] has done and what wasn't done last year. That's it. I'm not trying to be negative.'

Earlier today an ESPN producer in Bristol confirmed that T.O.'s allegations are "on the money," and that members of the Countdown crew are indeed talking about the mercurial wide receiver and drinking coffee. "

Although I think the last bit is Mosley being a little sarcastic :P However Mosley is from Dallas and listening to him on the radio I tend to get the vibe he's one of the few espn guys who actually defend Dallas against this crap.

Posted by the truth @ 9:01 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Owens really needs to shut up and play football. He's too dumb to realize he's becoming a distraction to his team. He will never be mentioned with the great ones like Jerry Rice because he has no class. He looks more like a fool every day.

Posted by Tommy @ 9:10 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I didn't care much about the prospect of T.O. coming when it was first announced. Had a hard time forgiving the "Star" incident. However, T.O. has won me over. He is so much more productive than KJ and really there's no comparison. T.O. is not only catching most of what's coming his way, but he can actually run with the ball after he catches it! Parcells is a great coach - I'm surprised to hear his comments. If Big Bill is upset with anyone it's probably our wonderful owner Jerry Jones.
Don't let it bother you, T.O.! You're proving them wrong every Sunday. Hang in there!

Posted by NJcowboyfan @ 9:35 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Meshawn misses a VERY important fact when comparing Tony Dungy & Jimmy Johnson to Bill Parcells.

When Dungy & Johnson left their respective teams the Players and Fans were extremely dissapointed. For the most part, The players and fans ARE HAPPY that Bill Parcells is gone! Parcells does deserve credit for leaving behind a good team but Everyone and their mother -except ESPN- thought T.O. should have been used differently than the way Bill used him last season.

Posted by Steve @ 9:52 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

If Keyshawn likes skunk urine so much he would love to party with R. Kelly.

Posted by brian @ 9:53 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Parcells' coaching is like the 50th time reading through a hemingway novel. Please just give me some more booze so I can forget!! Wade (and Garrett) are way better coaches when it comes to game planning and play calling.

Terrel has been ******* awesome this year. Keyshawn is retarded. Don't worry bout that washed up receiver / poor excuse for a comentator. Keep doing your thing TO.

Posted by cajuncowboy @ 10:07 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

If Keyshawn can give some "advice" to Terrell maybe this "advice" somehow will reach Keyshawn.
You're an analyst supposed to be unbiased....stop driving the "Parcells Boat".. he quit!!!!
Let me say again Keyshawn...HE QUIT!!!!!
If Bill Parcells thought he could go 12-1 after 13 games you think he would have quit????
So he didn't think he could be this succesful otherwise he wouldn't have quit.
So stop talking about past players and coaches...it's today Keyshawn.
Reality is they are 12-1. Phillips is the coach. Terrell is having yet another season in which you have never experienced in your career.
Your bias is going to run you off yet another job that your mouth wrote too many bad checks

Are we sure Keshawn is not running for Ms South Carolina? Or maybe the past winner is his vocab coach

I think Disney should just hand over ESPN (ECBN) to entertainment tonite, and let the tabloids take over

Posted by Jeff L. @ 11:50 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

If the Cowboys were to lose in the playoffs or perhaps in the Superbowl, I wonder if Keyshawn would blame Parcells for the failure?

Surely he wouldn't say that Phillips failed, or that T.O. failed.

It's all getting silly and blown out of porportion (surprise). I always wished that Parcells would have embraced T.O. more. That bugged me the way he would only speak vaguely of him, etc. I think it all came down to him now wanting to look like he had to bring in and rely on a star free agent that wasn't one of 'his guys'.

Oh well...the bottom line is that this is the most fun I've had watching a Cowboys season in YEARS. Parcells...Phillips...T.O....Jerry...whoever wants credit can have it, just keep winning.

Posted by Dan @ 11:51 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I'll take Patrick Crayton over Keyshawn any day of the week.

ESPN are a pack of jerks.

And even Jaworski isn't the guy who used to break down plays as he did in days past.

Kornhiser is one of the most irritating voices on broadcasting.

And Berman just keeps dredging up his imitation of Howard Cosell. Tom Jackson is perhaps the greatest sacred cow in all of America today. The guy offers almost nothing of any value, but he offers that nothing wrapped with the utmost pompousness.

AND THEY DO go after T.O. all the time.

Now I didn't even like T.O. when they brought him here, but the guy has proven himself to be a team leader, who shows up big time, in clutch moments. And last year, he could have told about his hand problem, but he kept his mouth shut, didn't make excuses, and listened to men who didn't know what they were talking about rip him for his drops.

THEY'RE TRYING to make T.O. explode. They're deliberately, purposely trying to hurt the Dallas Cowboys by getting T.O.'s mind off of football, and focused on all sorts of weird extraneous crap.

This is all part of the crowning and the anointing of the Patriots. It's almost as if they were moving in sync with the Patriots front office.

There IS a great deal of anti-Cowboy animus out there, and WE ALL see that and hear that from the ESPN booths.

Posted by reality @ 12:14 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Bill can no longer coach, and Keyshawn can no longer play. Long live Wade and T.O.

Posted by Spano @ 12:26 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Everything T.O said is right on the money. Keyshawn was one of the most overrated WRs ever !!
He couldnt carry T.O's jock. T.O is a HOFer and Keyshawn isnt even close. T.O made Keyshawn look like a fool. Im happy for T.O. and the season he has had, and I hope he plays another 5 years. He's shown no signs of slowing down. Say what you want about T.O., Id take him on my team anyday.

Posted by cisco @ 12:29 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I think T.O. should just leave this desert monkey to play with himself

Posted by Patrick @ 1:18 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Keyshawn is a joke! ESPN is becoming a joke as well. They had the best pre game show and year after year they decided to add an "idiot" to improve rating. If having that idiot Keyshawn is the best they have to offer then it explains why my pre game show doesn't start until noon on Sundays.

Parcel deserves no more credit for the Boys success this year than Wade deserves for last year team. I didn't see any ESPN analysts offering this year Charger's team credit to Marty, so why is it important for the Cowboys to credit Parcel. If my memory serve me correct, he actually quit on the team (I'm sure he didn't feel they could be as successful as they have so far), which I know Keyshawn understands (he's quit on a few teams himself).

T.O. is a great receiver headed to the HOF and believe it or not (ESPN Analysts) none of you guys can control him. In fairness to ESPN, I would suggest that the network continue to allow Keyshawn to "wear out his welcome" (he's pretty good at that) and maybe some publishing company will take him off your hands to write a book called "Just Pass Me The Damm Mic."

It Is What It Is!

Posted by ap @ 2:51 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Holy smokes, if any of you haven't done so already, head over to ESPN's podcast page and listen to the Galloway show where they "cover" this story. It's an absolutely worthless, biased commentary and Key's "rebuttal" is completely off-target...he tries to focus so hard on completing coherent sentences that he forgets to make a valid point. Skunk urine aside.

Then, if you're not annoyed enough, dig up the Ticket's podcast of when Key tried to interview Chad Johnson and pass along some advice to him about celebrating too much. Chad Johnson verbally manhandled Key so bad that Keyshawn actually got up and left mid-interview in frustration.

Absolutely. Ridiculous.

Posted by shahab @ 8:27 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

i don't understand why everyone is ripping keshawn johnson. all he said was TO should just let the whole parcells thing go because it doesn't benefit him at all and just concentrate on football. that sounds like good advice. if you're having such a great year as a player and a team why keep harping on the past? a normal adult in his position whould just let it go by now.

bottom line is TO is a phenominal athlete but has the mind of a child. he can't distinguish the difference between genuine advice and criticism and is also overly sensative to criticism.

Posted by Ryan @ 10:18 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I don't really understand all the Keyshawn backlash. Does Parcells deserve credit of building this team? Yes. Does Keyshawn spend too much time taking digs at a coach who is no longer his coach? Yes. Has Wade Phillips done a good job managing the personalities on this team? Yes. Do I like Keyshawn better? Yes. But is T.O. a better player than Keyshawn was? Yes. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I am not a big TO fan, but to give the credit for the Cowboys success is Bill Parcells to me is like this. If you had a chef who went out and boughta years supply of ingredients to make a dinner and everything the chef did didn't win any blue ribbons. In comes another chef and uses the ingredients that was bought by the old chef and the new chef makes a prize winning dinner. Should the old chef get credit because he bought all the ingredients and failed to do anything special with the ingredients. I wouldn't thinks, would you?
