Jon Kitna told Detroit reporters that he doesn't think the Cowboys will hit him any harder because he provided Grade A bulletin-board material after the Lions' win last season. He might be right, but the Cowboys should hit him often. The Lions have allowed 51 sacks, by far the most in the league. The Cowboys' defense ranks fourth in the league 33 sacks, one fewer than they produced last season. Kitna called out the Cowboys pass rush during his now infamous chat with the Seattle radio station. "They're not going to get a lot of pressure on the quarterback," he said, even though the Cowboys sacked him five times. OK, so here's the equation: Horrible Lions' O-line + DeMarcus Ware + Greg Ellis + Cowboys' playing with lead + bulletin-board motivation = big trouble for Kitna. Over-under for sacks: a season-high seven. |

Hmmm...I'm trying to decide if I should take the under and say 6, or the over and say 8...

The Cowboys will double their season total in sacks this week by sacking the Lions quarterback(s) 33 times!

Sometimes the obvious has a way of not happening.
You can bet the Lion offensive line is going to be working their butts off and you can bet Kitna is going to be getting the ball out fast, even if he has a number of throw aways.
Those guys are going to be motivated also.

The lions are TOAST! 12 Sacks...to go along with 3 interceptions and a fumble!
Posted by TG in Phila @ 10:57 AM Fri, Dec 07, 2007
Under on the sacks...but he will throwing off his back foot a lot (a la Lord Favre).
Posted by Displaced Cowboys fan @ 11:02 AM Fri, Dec 07, 2007
I agree the Lion's are TOAST! But becuase of the NFL letter to Newman the refs are going to call this game VERY tight any hit on Kitna will be a 15 yard pen.

Kitna will be getting rid of the ball fast but I still see the Cowboys getting to him for like 5 sacks and MANY pressures/knockdowns.
Posted by craigw @ 11:16 AM Fri, Dec 07, 2007
Yep, expect an abundance of penalties on our D. The refs are gonna make sure they are choir boys out there.
I say they get 3 sacks. Nothing extraordinary.

I got to ask what is with Gosselin and his constant picking against the Cowboys. Does he have no sense of proportion or feel for the game? I can understand picking GB or NE or NY but Detroit?
There is seriously something wrong with this man and his reporting. Can't put much stock in it.
On a more positive note, I hope the Cowboys D pushes the limit on sacks in this game. Sack 'em early and often. Make Kitna see more turf than dome. I am gonna guess over.

I say under, about 4 sacks, Kitna will be getting the ball out pretty quick, maybe a couple of intentional grounding calls, but that is where newman will get his, those quick routes will start getting jumped.

I say the Cowboys Defense gets less than 7 sacks. I worry about this game. Aaron Rogers went crazy on Dallas D when Favre went out. Detroit is 6-6 and they are desperate for a win. And, Dallas has a history of playing bad not only against Detroit, but especially at their place. Sorry, but this is another trap game. There is not doubt that the stadium will be sold out and loud, maybe the loudest place in the NFL. Remember, the Cowboys bring out the craziest people on the Road. Loud, Loud, noise. ONly way for this not to happen if Dallas Offense opens huge lead and runs away from them.
Dallas wins, in a scare, 34-20, but, its closer than the score indicates. Dallas scores late to seal it. But, Defense struggles, again.

Leave Gosselin alone! (*sobs*)
Gosselin always picks the home team when the cowboys play. Doesn't matter who it is.
Posted by AmosM @ 12:14 PM Fri, Dec 07, 2007
Gosselin has zero credibility. He writes well, sounds good on Norm's show, and has lots of insider buddies in the league, but he doesn't actually know much about the game on the field. This is even more evident in the blog era when writers like Dave Halprin and Rafael Vela have forced the DMN to hire genuine football analysts like Al Breer. It's not enough to have "controversial" opinions anymore since fans often know as much about the team now as the beat writers.

Let make it a nice round number like 10!!!

You might be surprised at this, but I think the Cowboys are playing games with Kitna's head. If I were the Cows, I would blitz ONE time...on the first passing down of the game. Then back off into coverage and intercept him like he was a high school flute player. The crap he talked last year will get him some mouth on the field, but this coaching staff is much too savvy to let that dictate a game plan. Kitna is a short time QB with a little talent and a big mouth. That being said, the Cows have a worse records against these guys than they do either the Redskins or Eagles. Detroit is a scary place for me. If I were Ware and Ellis, I would tell Bradie to pick his spot and stay there. We need the linebacking corp to produce this week.

Referee calls newman "boy", and then penalizes the entire cowboy sideline for attempting to play football. riot erupts in stands. story makes cnn's situation room next week. But not before there are 9 sacks

I go with 666's statement: the obvious has a way of not happening (like the Top Ten picks the Cowboys were going to get from Cleveland this year & Buffalo a couple of years ago). And while the players are saying the right things out loud, inside they are thinking that, after a stretch that included the Giants, Eagles, Redskins & Packers, they finally have an easy game. Maybe we win it, but in a close shave; maybe not. But no feasting by the defense.

Gosselin's got a lot of history on his side - Detroit is just one of those teams that seems to play their best games against the Cowboys. Maybe it's some sort of bad ju-ju over using similar colors, who knows. But they could have the Dolphins' record this year and still be everything Dallas can handle. If the Kitna remarks keep the defense focused on a team that can beat them, great. If, instead, they make that side of the ball get too puffed out and think they're better than they are, it's going to be a long afternoon.

all this speculation and trash talking is unnecessay. it would be so refreshing to have our players just be quiet and go out and take care of business on Sunday.
Posted by mb @ 3:43 PM Fri, Dec 07, 2007
sorry, but i don't see this being a trap game...too many "motivating factors"...i remember Dallas getting smashed in the playoffs in 91 but returning the favor the following year at the Silverdome...if they get beat, it'll be an inspired Lions squad playing their best game of the year...if you believe that Detroit has a better offensive line than Gbay then take Detroit and the points...if they can't protect, they won't win...

Kitna will hit the ground, everytime he sees a D-lineman come free, but I had rather take the under and get four or five interceptions. T-New will still get the last laugh and no penalties.

You guys are such homers. I love the Cowboys as much as anyone, but please... a little objectivity.
Goose is a well respected NFL voice with a nice pedigree.

Lets be honest here. Are we ever really comfortable with our defense. The truth is our linebackers do have a problem in coverage and so do our d backs when they play 12 yards off the receivers. With that said, 4 sacks and lots of pressure. Cowboys 31 - 27
