Parcells-to-ATL dissolves

The Atlanta Falcons just released the following statement, trumpeting the end of their courtship with Bill Parcells:

Late last night it was revealed to the media by a source outside the Falcons that we were close to reaching an agreement with Bill Parcells to lead the club’s football operations.

Prior to the information becoming public, we had reached an agreement in principle with Parcells, and we met with him this morning to complete the contract. At that time, we were made aware by Parcells that he was considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins. He later informed us that he would not be signing a contract with us.

So South Beach could well be the next stop for Parcells. That would make the AFC East, with former Tuna helpers Bill Belichick and Eric Mangini already leading teams, a pretty interesting place.

Either way, Arthur Blank's last six months or so haven't been awesome.

Just like Parcells to be wishy washy about taking the ATL VP job. He's done it before, so no one should be surprised to see him do it again. I think he will tire of that job in a couple years anyway.

I hope he goes to Miami and stays away from the NFC. He isn't as effective as a head coach anymore, but I don't think anyone can argue his ability as a talent evaluator. See the 2007 Dallas Cowboys.

I just felt like I flashed back to good old Bill pulling the same thing with Tampa Bay!

question is why doesn't Jones offer that poistion to Parcells?

Posted by Sean @ 2:52 PM Wed, Dec 19, 2007

Because we have an Owner/VP/GM already in Jerry Jones.

Sour Puss Parcells should work for waffle house.

Sean said: "Because we have an Owner/VP/GM already in Jerry Jones."

And actually is a pretty decent one. (Never thought I would be saying that in relation to his GM role!)

If tuna could also lure some people from Pats, it would be wonderful. For instance, he could get his son-in-law from Pats to become general manager or president of Dolphins. He also could get the Pats offense coordinator as the head coach and that guy is only in mid 30s. He could also get some players from Pats. Tom Brady can still play a few more years and Pats will continue to dominate the division for a while. So the best way to compete against Pats is to get coaches, players from Pats.

I hope tuna does not raid Dallas personal (coaches, players, and others) very much.

He's not going to like it down there. They play and practice outdoors, and it's too hot for a fat guy.

Good for Atlanta. Parcells would have installed himself as coach, so, it's in their best interest not to have him on board. Plus, as a VP - he has no experience.

You think Cam Cameron is feeling nervous down there in Miami ????

Posted by Simon @ 4:07 PM Wed, Dec 19, 2007

If Parcells goes to Miami, I bet that Tony Sparano is hired as his HC. No way Garrett goes. His heart (and money) are in Dallas - can anyone say "succession plan"?

This is interesting. I can'say I blame the Tuna. He will have some great draft picks to work with including SD's given up for Chris Chambers not to mention #1 overall.

Consider what he will have to work with in the way of RBs. He likes RB tandems and a Ronnie Brown / Darren McFadden combo sounds like a pretty formidable Patriot/Jets killer in December. I do think you can kiss Tony Sporano goodbye. Who better to coordinate that offense and why wouldn't he want to move down to south florida?

Miami can start saying goodbye to their undersized MLB and Jason Taylor can expect to make a late career transition to OLB.

Keith Davis can be expected to sign there next spring, maybe Patrick Crayton as well. Jason Ferguson, Oliver Hoyte, Tony Curtis are others I could see landing there eventually.

parcells found out atlanta did not have a horse track! so he went with miami and gulfstream...
tuna =seahorse

Anyone notice how the tuna won't talk about the Cowboys and no one will ask him any questions??? I bet the Tuna put that in his contact. Just like little Jerry, Wade is doing more with his team than he ever would.

Giddeeup!

He left Atlanta quicker than Petrino. Parcells doesn't fit there, having to answer questions from the media about Vick 'the player' coming back to the team for the next 2 years and having an owner in Blank that won't leave a coach alone for a second.

Florida is the place for him, warm weather, grass field and a good owner that knows nothing about football and lets the coach do his job.

Tuna is up to his old tricks, he snubbed Tampa several years ago agter to agreeing in terms to a contract. I am just glad he is no longer in Dallas.

Good ole Bill. Always demanding absolute loyalty from his players and coaches, all the while pulling stunts like this, over and over. His word is worth spit. He would leave his own mother boiling in a cannibal's pot, if he was offered enough money. Remember how he blackmailed Jerry for that increase in salary his last year in Dallas. Jeez, I'm so glad he's gone.

With the way Crayton ripped Parcells earlier this year I think I have a better chance of playing WR for the Dolphins!
