'Positive' news about Terry Glenn

Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

After visiting with WR Terry Glenn this morning, Jerry Jones relayed news to reporters that Glenn has a "real shot" to help the Cowboys this season. Glenn, who had two arthroscopic surgeries during the preseason, is still rehabbing his right knee.

"He sure is positive," Jerry said, "and it's feeling good for him."

Jerry declined to speculate on a timetable for Glenn's return to the field. Glenn has yet to practice or run routes. He is running and working on strengthening the knee before testing it on the field. Glenn walked by while we chatted with Jerry, heading to the weight room and moving without a noticeable limp.

Jerry said it was possible that Glenn could help the Cowboys in the playoffs without playing a down during the regular season.

"It's going to be a feel thing," Jerry said. "We'll have to get a good feel. Once he physically feels like making the cuts and making runs, it won't be long after that that should be able to help us."

Don't ruin this team's chemistry. Put him in as a fourth/fifth option if needed.

Glenn was are best receiver last year if he is healthy enough to play then he needs to be in the game no less than the 3rd receiver.

Peter king seems to think 2 more weeks in his top 15 team rankings:

3. Dallas (11-1). What you have to like if you're a Cowboys fan is the Packers knew Tony Romo was going to look for Terrell Owens all night Thursday, and by halftime Owens had six catches for 147 yards. And Dallas might be two weeks away from getting a pretty good weapon, Terry Glenn, back to make Romo and Owens even more dangerous. I might be a week away from jumping Dallas over Indy.

Yeah great cool and all, but do you really want him out there that soon? How much can he really help us right now?
The boys are late season- and seasoned. They have chemistry and have been practicing. Dont get me wrong I like TG, but coming back now?

Just seems ridiculous really...He MAY see some playing time, maybe in the playoffs?...It was a bandaid effort on Glenn's part to avoid microfracture surgery as he will still need additional surgeries in the future.

In my opinion, this has been a nonstory for this season and he should've opted for the better surgery longterm both for him and the Cowboys.

Didn't Doctor Jerry say Glenn would be back for the first game of the year?

Posted by mattyinnj @ 12:58 PM Mon, Dec 03, 2007

Having him available can't hurt can it?

Posted by MIKE. P @ 1:01 PM Mon, Dec 03, 2007

I would like to see him back, but if he's not ready..stay put. Plus this might be his last season with the BOYS, so he wants in on this great year.

Also can anyone tell me how to get to some autographs signing. I always seem to hear about it after the fact. Locations...web sites.. etc..would be helpful. Thanks!

Some people are crazy. An 80 percent Glenn would make this offense unstoppable. If you think Green Bay had trouble last week, imagine the Packers trying to stop TO and Glenn. It would be a whole new ballgame in any Super Bowl against the Patriots, too. Glenn will be rusty, but so will Marvin Harrison. Anybody think the Colts and Manning would rather keep a rust Harrison out of the lineup? Bring in Glenn a little in the next to last game, then for 3 quarters in the last game. Have him ready to go in the playoffs. We won't be able to be stopped.

Remember,

the boys will have 2-weeks between the last season game and the 1st playoff game(I am assuming the bye).

That would be the appropriate time to work Terry back into the offense.

You can bet Crayton will still start and move to the slot with Terry comes in on 3-receiver sets, so Crayton will be out there just as much as he is now.

But, c,mon guys, Owens, Crayton, and Glenn will be a better three receiver set than having Hurd or Austin out there, so this could be a big shot in the arm to this offense for the playoffs, and you still have Hurd and Austin subbing and backing up.

If Terry is not ready, he will not play. If he is ready, he should play. Yes, he has not played in the offense. But the defense also does not know how he will be used in the offense because no tapes to study. Romo did play with Terry last year so there should be a feel between them. They can also practice more for the plays Terry will be in. When Glenn is in the game, the defense must commit to defend him because he is a good WR and the defense has no ideas how he will be used.

In summary, if he is ready to go, he will be very useful for the offense.

we need 2 run the no huddle

Posted by bill @ 2:31 PM Mon, Dec 03, 2007

Terry Glenn is a wise old veteran. When he's physically ready to play he will. He knows what to do to fit into the offense. I like the fact that teams have no film on him in this offense and where to look for him on the field. It could work as an element of suprise if you will , in the playoffs.

I know a competitor like Glenn wants to play and have a chance at playing in another Superbowl. I hope not but this may be his last season.

tg was romo fav. receiver last yr. having tg back only makes the off. that more stronger , don t think he would come back if he can t be close to 100% to the guy who said he needs more surg. tg is at the end of career don t think he has time for micro surg

Posted by jtt @ 3:07 PM Mon, Dec 03, 2007

Terry Glenn stretches defenses, had/has superior speed and.... excellent hands.....would certainly be an asset, except for this offense has been operating at full speed without him. DO not like the fact he has totally separated himself from the team's workouts (media's version of his rehab).
"IF IT AINT BROKEN DON'T FIX IT"

Posted by Randeezy @ 3:22 PM Mon, Dec 03, 2007

If it aint broke don't fix it? How bout "if it's great make it unstoppable" Glenn even as a third receiver is much better option than Austin or Hurd. It's nonsense to say otherwise. neither has been a big part of our offense this year. Glenn would make everyone better, from TO to Marion Barber. I think this offense go get close to NE level if he's able to make a return. I've been holding out hope as well and would err on the side of caution and hold him out till the playoffs start.

Posted by jtt @ 3:45 PM Mon, Dec 03, 2007

Randee,

Here is the downside, TO is flourishing being "DA MAN", Glenn returning MIGHT diminish his contributions to the offense and the chemistry of the team....we are averaging almost 33PPG, can we realistically expect more production than that, and to what end??
We are not NE (they no longer rely on the running game at all, they just throw most of the time)........and this is coming from someone who thinks that TG is a more complete receiver than TO.
It may be a "win-win" situation for this team.

Glenn on the field is an auto upgrade over all but TO, PC, and Witten. If he has his jets back (biggest concern) his hands and heart have never been in question in this league...well, BP did refer to him as she but BP does like to try alternative motivation styles...which brings up a question for the faithful: Would BP have been willing to carry TG on the active roster the entire year as WP has or would he have IRed him or worse, released him. Me, I think that he would have IRed him for the roster spot giving him more room at the bottom to "churn the roster".

TG wouldnt hurt any chemistry. T0 wants him playing. I dont care if he only plays 3rd downs & redzone !
