Cowboys captain Bradie James' take on Panthers: "Those guys will be ready. The last few weeks, guys have been giving us their best. And this is kind of like their Super Bowl, I’m sure. I’m sure coach Fox will have those guys geared up, because the only way they can have a chance to go to the playoffs is if they beat us."

Charlotte as a Whole's take on the Panthers: Who cares? In this morning's Observer, there were two stories on the Cowboys-Panthers game. One was on Charlotte's own Chris Canty, who happens to be a Cowboy. The other was a quick-hits piece analyzing the Cowboys. And this picks column does rehash Tony-and-Jess. So, really, there wasn't Word 1 about the local guys. There is plenty of NASCAR coverage though (Yee-haw!!!)

Is there room to worry about the 6-8 Cats? Probably not. Especially when you consider the Cowboys have never lost a regular-season game in the Queen City (though they have lost twice in the playoffs here). Here's a look at Dallas' five visits to Carolina.

1/5/97: Panthers 26, Cowboys 17*
10/1/00: Cowboys 16, Panthers 13 (OT)
1/3/04: Panthers 29, Cowboys 10*
12/24/05: Cowboys 24, Panthers 20
10/29/06: Cowboys 35, Panthers 14
* -- Playoffs

I lived briefly in Charlotte and I too was amazed at the lack of Panthers coverage. Nascar received 5 pages and the cats were buried towards the back. Oh, and their sports radio was terrrrrrible.

Too bad because their stadium is great, and for the most part, have fielded a competitive team year in a year out.

Charlotte's overhyped. Too many people originally from somewhere else live there now. (Hey, kinda like Dallas ... hmmm.) No real personality, sort of bland and redundant architectural style, garbage food. But hey, they've got an increase in crime, so I guess that's something, eh?

Let's just go in there and beat the pulp out of that kitty cat team (when's the last time anybody saw a panther in Charlotte, btw?) and use it as a tune-up to pummel the Redskins.

Carolina's game plan:
They're going to fly in Jessica, Britney, Carrie and TO's publicist and sit them all together behind the Dallas bench and let the mayhem ensue! Romo will be a blithering idiot by the time it's over.

I'm still worried about this game. This defense is still shaky and now the offense has issues as well. I'll relax after 0:00 on the scoreboard and a win.

Then again, if we can't beat the pathetic Panthers on the road, we have no business even being in the playoffs.

The harder test against the Redskins still awaits...

Charlotte blows. Their luxury boxes suck and have horrible sight lines so I won't be there. Plus, I'm like all P.O.'ed at T.O. for throwin' some hatin' my way this week. We'll just see if my Tony Cuddle Toes even looks in his direction on Saturday.

Waitaminute! Saturday? SATURDAY NIGHT?!?!? Oh, Jeezus -- I gotta put in an appearance at The Ivy in West Hollywood on Saturday night. So, see, I couldn'ta made it anyway. Well, good luck without me, Tony Honey -- I know you'll have just as good a game as last time.

Love, Jess

Everyone keep dogging the Cats, but when it all goes down Saturday night in the QC, only one team will walk away with sweet victory. It won't the Dallas secondary or the dufus with a bimbo, celebrity girlfriend. Steve Smith is gonna run wild!

GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Home underdog on a national TV night...

If I hadn't wisely given up sports betting 20 years ago I'd be putting money down on Carolina and taking me some points... Don't mark this one in the Cowboys win column just yet.

One can also make a similar argument that the Dallas media didn't really focus on last week's Philly/Dallas game either. It seemed that the actual game was a secondary concern, much like this week's game seems to be. Aside from a few random mentions about how Cory Procter will do against Chris Jenkins, and T-New's history versus Steve Smith, the storyline for this week has been...well, elsewhere.

Personally, I'll be watching closely to see how the replacement safeties fare, if Miles Austin is utilized more in the offense as well as special teams, and if the series-by-series switching of Barber/Jones keeps going. I'll also be keeping an eye out for the dreaded Spencer/Ware/Ellis package.

Every game is a worry.

Posted by Danny @ 12:25 PM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

The last time I didn't worry about a Cowboy game was the 2nd half of Super Bowl 27.

I nearly puke the entire week prior to ANY game - there's always somethign about the next week's opponent that scares me. I'm doubly concerned this week given the implications in terms if home field. Sure this team is talented, but it is YOUNG and doesn't have any real playoff experience besides losses aside from TO. That is an angle that is overlooked by most pundits. This isnt a team that can coast into the dance and expect to roll...we need some momentum.

that being said, this is the week we start the ball rolling. Dal 27 Car 13

Yes NASCAR is popular in Charlotte and the South in general but the way it's snobbishly written in your blog suggests that it's beneathe Dallas and Texans. Did you know your own Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman happen to own a NASCAR team together and Texas is one of the most popular places for NASCAR.

The Panthers are having a down year and yet they still beat a playoff bound NFC team last week and will they do it again on Saturday night? Matt Moore may be Carolina's new version of Tony Romo yet without the inflated ego and baggage.

"This is kind of like their Super Bowl". What?!?! Dude, they've been to a Super Bowl waaayyyy more recently than we have. Also nice to see you nowhere near the top 30 in tackles in the NFL. Good job, "vocal leader". Shut up and play.

Posted by Rockbeasley @ 2:03 PM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

I echo PantherFan on the NASCAR only. I don't know why a sportswriter writing for a Dallas newspaper has to remain a Northeastern snob. Lose the attitude!

Posted by Vaquero @ 2:36 PM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

The Dallas D will go after Moore from the start because Davis and Brown are expected to be able to make plays. And for all you Panther fans predicting a win, well, you might be reading into all this commotion wrong. Tony has pride and I guarantee you that this game can't come any sooner for him and all the team.I just have a feeling you guys are in for a big time national tv audience whupping.

I hope Albert Breer isn't making fun of Charlotte for having an excessive amount of rednecks. As a Charlotte native and lifelong Cowboys fan, I attended my first game ever at Texas Stadium last week, and, well, to be kind, let's just say that in the redneck dept, Dallas will give any city a run for its money.

Posted by Buster @ 5:51 PM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

He who last last, laughs the most. Dallas would be nothing without Fort Worth. And besides your team does not even play in Dallas. The dumbest and most arrogant fans in the NFL are Cowboy fans. Dallas is nothing more than Mexico North. Read the article in Travel and Leisure about Dallas. I am sure the city bigwigs enjoyed that stab in the back. Tell you what we will do...we will send some of the ignorant Yankess from Buffalo and New Jersey your way. They would fit in perfectlty in Dallas.
