For the first time in my life, I watched a couple minutes of ESPN's First Take. Oh, the things I do for this here blog. I TiVo'd the show and fast-forwarded to the T.O. interview, so I was spared any ridiculous rants Skip Bayless might have unleashed today. But ESPN, which excels at self-promotion and T.O. sensationalization (strengths for me, too), made sure to ask the Original 81 what he thought about the dude who calls him Team Obliterator. "You know what? My stats speak for [themselves]," T.O. said with a smile. "And I heard you say in the beginning of the show, every team that I’ve been on, I've been successful. No matter what, I have a lot of naysayers, a lot of haters. But know what? I’m a blessed individual, and I don’t let guys like that get to me. They've got to do what they've got to do to pump themselves up, and I do what I do to pump myself up." T.O. then made a seamless transition into promoting a home gym product that he's endorsing. Well played, sir. By the way, anybody that is still ripping T.O. after everything he's done this season (on the field and in the locker room) is either clueless or being obnoxious just to get noticed. Or both. |

I like the 3 guarentees at the bottom of TO's gym page. Worth reading.

Obviously, Bayless is both obnoxious and clueless.
TO did a great job, but if he had said the following, I would've been ecstatic:
"Some people feel the need to make outrageous statements without really thinking them through, just to get attention. It's very childish. I know, because I used to be one of those people, and have grown out of it. Maybe someday Skip Bayless can grow up enough to start thinking before he speaks too, and to stop seeking attention in such a childish way."

hmm, "anybody that is still ripping T.O. after everything he's done this season (on the field and in the locker room) is either clueless or being obnoxious just to get noticed. Or both." - what are you saying there, Mr. McMahon? are you daring to suggest that Skip Bayless is both clueless AND obnoxious AND an attention whore?
ok. but isn't all that associated with him just a little redundant?

Skippy use to work for the Dallas Times Herald back in the day...then when that folded, he did a Dallas Cowboys news FAX when that technology was all the rage with help from Mickey Spags...Skip still sucks...

Skip Bayless is a massive tool. But I feel bad for the guy, since he has Parkinson's. That IS why he shakes constantly, isn't it?
Posted by Jeff in PDX @ 2:56 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
I have always been a TO backer and I do think that the Media wants him to crack because "bad TO" is more interesting then "good TO." ESPN is the worst....devoting an entire day to the TO "attempted suicide" was one of the sickest things I have seen that station do.
But who is with me that Sunday he seemed to be pouting during the game.....quitting on plays and he didn't seem to interested when Witten scored the GW touchdown (was it because he was wide open and Romo threw to Witten?).......I do worry sometimes that he is just a quick step away from "bad TO" being unleashed.

What is Bayless' beef with all things Cowboys? Could someone please explain?
Posted by mattyinnj @ 3:08 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
Bad TO is still somewhere inside of him. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior is it not? He is obviously more than capable of ripping a team to shreds but it will not happen in Dallas at least THIS year. He's getting his cash (funny, but wasnt year 3 of his contract the smallest in terms of cash? we'll see how that one pans out), he's getting the rock, and the team is winning. He has little to nothing to comlain about. As for Sunday, I thought I detected a little pout as well but I'm not sure if I was totally on point or not. Even if he was pouting...why not? They were triple teaming him and he wasnt getting the ball in a big game that his team was playing poorly in. The cameras are going to show TO alot but they are going to definitely focus on those times (like after the Witten fumble for instance) where they are most likely to catch him screaming.
Skip Bayless is a nobody and a rabblerouser who makes a meager existance on his past pseudo-achievements and his hyperbolic ramblings. TO has been a great player for this team and has definitely turned me from hater to believer with his play. Could he melt down? Surely. Will he? I'd put it at 50/50 that he'll leave town on a bridge burning beneath his feet. But savor the sweet buttery flavor of the popcorn while it is hot folks.

I know TO has a history but he's been amazing this year. It pains me to watch Bayless, Terry Bradshaw, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, etc. b/c they can't move on. I'm sorry but lost in all the national coverage about Romo/Witten and the Lions is that TO was taking 2-3 guys with him every play. Why would ESPN gloss over that fact? They'd be saying it if it was Randy Moss and the Pats...guarantee it.
Posted by Not So Crazy Ray @ 3:24 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
MattyinNJ, great post and I agree with most of what you've written. Maybe I'm naive and drinking too much of the Kool-Aid, but I really think the chance of TO having an ugly meltdown and divorce from the Cowboys is only 25% or less. The combination of him having grown up, and management and the coaching staff's knowing how to handle him will see to that.
As for the contract, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Jerry re-negotiate and extend him after this year. Sure, TO requires some stroking and is high-maintenance, but he's worth it.

Skip Brainless...enough said.
Posted by Bob @ 3:46 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
You mean former Dallas News sports columnist Skip Bayless? The one who outed Troy? He's clueless, really?
Posted by Tired of The TO Bashers @ 3:52 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
Actually TO jumped and raised the "#1" finger when Witten scored...stop looking for negatives in anything TO does...

Well said Timmy Mac!
Posted by sk @ 4:10 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
I am not sure how anyone with the skill level of T.O and stats would have behaved when they run full speed for 2 quarters and doesn't get a ball thrown in your way.
I know this: T.O is scrutinized by everyone including the fans like us for everything he does/didn't do.
If he smiles - not focussing on the game
If he doesn't smile - frustrated and being selfish
If he shows up - self promoting
If he doesn't show up - not being a team player
Poor guy.

Will someone please stick a dirty jock in Skip Baylesses loud mouth?! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when it comes to the Cowboys and T.O., it sounds like Skip hasn't seen anything from the 2007 season. T.O. has made an amazing turnaround and is an absolute team player. I REALLY like T.O. now.
Posted by Pokes @ 4:11 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
T.O. showed nothing but class on his few tivo'd minutes. And there sat poor skippy, everyone patting him on the back, and saying now come on skip what did T.O. ever do to you. Typical espn landfill
Anyone who writes bad stuff about Landry, is a "journalism obliterator" too me

Skip Bayless has no credibility--ZERO
Skip wanted the Cowboys to keep Steve Walsh and ditch Aikman--IDIOT.
Skip started the whole Troy is gay thing.
Skip came out at the beginning of the year and said that Tony RomEo is a fraud. He still thinks that, which gets us to why he hates the Cowboys.
They have always proved him to be wrong!
Why waste your time listening to anything he says. He is an idiot.
Posted by Elaine @ 4:59 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
Skip Bayless is a brainless idiot who is pissed at the Cowboys since they threw him out of the cowboys facility. He has always hated the Cowboys and said horrible things about them and then expected them to accept him in the locker room to report.
Posted by Romo Maniac44 @ 5:06 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
This is my first post after reading for months. Let me start with I went to UTC with T.O. and he was one of the best guys to be around. When he got to San Fran, I liked him (except for the star thing) but hated the team ditto for Philly. But when Jerry brought him to Big D, Parcells wouldn't even call him by name (Reid at least tried to learn his name). Who was the childish one there? He is being used perfectly this year and his stats are reflecting it. He was doubled and tripled teamed all day, that means at least 2 other people are open. Romo did what great quaterbacks do, find the open man and get them the ball. This brings me to Keyshawn & Bayless. Key is a Parcells protector he needs a new tube of chapstick after every segment. And Bayless is pathetic, you really have to feel sad for him. What would he do if he couldn't rant about the Cowboys? "Romo is a fraud", if this is fraudulent please deceive me for years to come. T.O. is the real deal, Gracia had his best years with who? What about McCry Baby best year? T.O. makes a good quarterback better. And he is helping make a better Q.B GREAT!!!

I had no idea that Skip Brainless wrote a book about the Boys: "Hell-Bent: The Crazy Truth About the "Win or Else" Dallas Cowboys."
Of course, I got my information from Wikipedia, so it has to be true, right? I think this man-tool goes out of his way to be controversial and a contrarian just so ESPN has a reason to keep him employed. Otherwise, no one would know who this idiot is.
But let's not waste more cyber-space talking about a two-bit hack. Did anyone notice the cheesy porno music that TO has playing on the video of his giant rubber band training product?
Posted by LARRY @ 5:37 PM Tue, Dec 11, 2007
SKIP I GUESS YOU GET PAID TO DO WHAT YOU DO .T.O.GET PAID TO DO WHAT HE DO ,AND THATS A GOOD THING. BUT YOU I CANT SEE WHAT THA HELL THEIR PAYING YOU FOR. "WHEN YOUR GOOD YOUR GOOD". MAYBE YOU SAY THE THINGS YOU SAY BECAUSE YOU'R NO LONGER APART OF THE TEAM? HA HA HA .
PS GO GO GO GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!
FAN FOR LIFE.

Skippy peanut butter Bayless is clueless.
I cannot understand why ESPN gives peanut butter a microphone! Surely the ratings proof out my point. Perhaps they employ him so he can say things about everyone in Dallas that all those damn yankees and patriot lovers up there want to say but are to unwilling to say out loud. I cannot wait til Dallas sticks it to those over rated blow hard Patriots in the Super Bowl so they will once and for all shut their collective yankee pie holes!
Go Cowboys! # 9 is just around the corner and #6 will be in tow!

Did anybody else notice waht LT did on the sideline at the San Deigo game to his QB P. Rivers? He also sat on the bench woth a towel over his head. If this had been TO EVERYBODY in the media would be up in arms over it, but because it was LT and TO I am hearing all sort of people exscusing his beahvior saying things like "emotions ride high on the sideline and all will be forgiven once on the bus" You will never hear the media say this about TO if he did anything even close to this. TO has a target on him from the media and EVERYTHING he does is looked at under a microscope in a negative light. This just gives me more respect for the guy. He gets more BS than any other player in the NFL right now

Bayless is a freaking joke and a coward. He guaranteed that Romo would blow it against the Giants in NY. What happened Monday morning on First Take.... Mr. D*$@ Bag was no show. Skip is a mindless worm that has to take these stances to get noticed. He is an average journalist that has to sensationalize things to get noticed.
Skip, you suck!! Go back to the CC times and cover San Jose State football you tool

Amy, nobody really knows why Bay Less Snooz Store is so anti-Dallas. But he was antiDallas when he was here. I referred to him as Coach Crap because he second guessed every play, every personnel move and every pot of coffee the Big D franchises made. He personally made it clear that he was proud to have single handedly ran Dick Motta out of town with this vituperous columns. He is a naysayer that Dallas rejected and now he is somehow working for ESPN. He left Dallas media and went to work at ESPN, raising the collective IQ's of both entities at the same time.

Well so much for Owens turning over a new leaf. He did, but it still has the same slugs under it that it always had. He just couldn't keep his big mouth shut. I could care less about bay less, he is an ass, he has always been an ass, as far as i am concerned they turned him out to a pasture full of ass. Oh, they got to him alright. Poor little boy, just couldn't keep his mouth shut. Gotta bad mouth someone who isn't around anymore. Jerry Jones play pen is filling up fast.
