T.O. today, word for word

3:56 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Per request, I transcribed T.O.'s entire chat with the media today. Follow the jump to read it. The questions are paraphrased. The answers are verbatim.

Clarify Simpson comments.
Like everybody else is trying to blame Jessica for the loss, but the reality is we lost the game. She doesn’t come out there and play and run any plays. She did what she did as a girlfriend of his, to come out there and support. So other than that …

Did you talk to Tony?
I talked to him last night, you know. Other than that, that’s about all I can do.

Was Romo receptive?
Oh, yeah. I guess she was kind of upset about it. I just told him that I’d do whatever I can to try to rectify the situation. So other than that, that’s about it.

Taken out of context?
Yeah, I think everybody knew that I was kidding around and just playing around or whatnot. Other than that, I told Tony that I’d apologize and whatnot. You know, I’m sure he had talked to her, and that was about it.

Did Romo take it seriously?
No, I don’t think he took it serious. I guess the way it came across in the media that it wasn’t joking, you know, that I wasn’t joking. But everybody knew that everybody here was laughing. I was just trying to have fun with it. At this point in time, I’m not going to dwell on it. I don’t feel like it’s a distraction. Everybody is kind of wanting it to be a distraction, but, at this point in time, I’m like, dude, we lost a game last week. Like I told those guys earlier, she did what she had to do as far as being there in support of Tony. Other than that, she doesn’t run any routes, she doesn’t throw any balls, she doesn’t catch any balls.

Is it a dangerous area to comment about teammate’s girlfriend?
Nah, I mean, it’s no different than what the media has done. Other than that, you know, I was just joking around and trying to have a little fun. As you guys do, take something I said and try to make a little more something out of it.

Any truth to jokes? Are you superstitious?
No, not that I know of. I don’t think that’s the first game that she’s been to. I think it’s the first game that the cameras probably saw her there. But to my knowledge, it’s not the first game that she’s been to.

Is Tony’s focus where it needs to be right now?
You’ve got to ask Tony.

Can you clarify that you were joking?
Well, yeah, I mean, dude, everybody saw me here yesterday, you know, my press conference I do weekly. I was just joking around. Everybody was laughing, this and that, and then next thing I know, I’m driving home and I hear a lot of people telling me, be aware of what’s being said in the media and what not. So other than that, I talked to Tony. I hope there’s no hard feelings. And, you know, we’ll just move on.

Romo accept apology?
It wasn’t necessarily an apology. I was just trying to explain to him what kind of happened during the course of the session or whatnot. I kind of told him basically what was said, and he kind of expressed to me what Jessica had told him or whatnot. I was like, ‘Look, dude. I was like, ‘It wasn’t meant like that. Everybody was just having fun, and I was saying what I had to say.’ And, you know, there it is. It’s a big story.

Things you say become big deal?
Well, I think right now, we’re 12-2. The Cowboys, we’re having a good season. It’s not been too much of a story here. I haven’t really done a whole lot. I guess I should have been careful with what I had to say. Now they’re trying I guess to create some type of dissension in the locker room, and maybe between Tony and I, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Other than that, man, you know we’re 12-2. There’s nothing to really be down about.

If you don’t get the ball this week, will Simpson comments have something to do with it?
If I don’t get the ball this week, I’m going to have to go to Hollywood and bake some cakes or something. Find me a Hollywood star or something.

Any truth to Romo being preoccupied?
I don’t know. I can’t speak for anybody else. You know, I listen to the media just like everybody else. Other than that, the way we played, I don’t really think it had anything to do with Jessica. Everybody else made that report, and I think everybody just kind of jumped on the bandwagon.

If the media was here throughout the week of practice last week, there were some things that, you know, that kind of showed. Some of the things that happened in practice were some of the things that happened in the game. We just weren’t in sync, and that was the way we played. We just had a bad game.

How has Romo looked this week?
Oh, he’s done good. I think Wednesday, he didn’t really throw a whole lot. But he came out and he threw a lot better than I thought he would have. You know, he’s going to play on Sunday. The thing for him is just not having a setback. I think he’s definitely improved with the thumb, with his injury, since game day. That’s definitely encouraging.

You guys back in sync now?
We’ll see.

Tim,
This is the last straw. I absolutely refuse to read many more Tabloid articles on TO or JS!!!
Unless you find a new angle or suck me in with a different title.

Posted by Vox Veritas @ 4:10 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Oh, so now he's threatening to quit and open a Hollywood bakery, huh?

Posted by NCTRNL @ 4:12 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Tim, you're ruining your reputation with this story. Give us some real football stories. Like somebody said earier, how do BIGG DAVIS and MB3 feel about making the pro bowl? I guess we'll never hear about it as long as you try to twist this whole Romo, Simpson, and Owens story. I bet you're glad your name was all over the nation tied to your evil twist of T.O.'s words yesterday. You're well on your way to being the next SKIP BAYLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Senthil @ 4:14 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Oh man, this guy has such a horrible karma, anything he does or speaks becomes a story for national tabloid. I know it's easy for us to ask him to "shut up" but he is a human being like us and just trying to have fun after a long day of practice.

If this is anyone else, it would have gone unnoticed, if this is Brett Farve speaking the media and fans would have hailed him as "ultimate leader" trying to get his people to focus on the game and blah blah blah.

I prayed to God nothing happens to T.O chemistry with Romo and they continue to put up "W" for my beloved Cowboys.

Posted by Scott in SA @ 4:17 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Tim,

Just like yesterday when you said "TO wasn't kidding when he said she was a distraction". Of course, what your smart a$$ really meant was, "man, that guy ain't kidding AKA I agree with him". You totally lefy out context and decided to become what ESPN and most of mainstream media has become. A bunch of unprofessional, biased tabloid writers with no integrity that are out to MAKE news. You're a jackhole...leave Texas immediately moron.

Posted by chris graham @ 4:17 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

if witten is open 15times throw it 2 him 15times.if owens is doubled dont force it.im gone cheer owens this year then im through.

Posted by DB @ 4:35 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

T.O. Here is a message for you. Put your hands over your mouth and don't take them off until you open them up and catch the ball (something you are having a hard time with still). Hey Michael could catch that ball no matter if it was thrown in front, behind back, whatever. And, stop falling down on your routes.

Romo,

Do leave your girlfriends at home and also try to improve your throwing accuracy, it was horrible and that is not the first time.

All this will be behind us about 11 pm Saturday night.

winning cures all ailments.

Long Live the Boys

Posted by DB @ 4:40 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

First, let me say that no one is talking about
the coaching staff's failure to start Miles Austin
as the kick/punt returning. He is the best
and fastest of them.

Second, here is a message for all the Dallas
Cowboys players: play as a team and start
playing with a sense of urgency from the
start of the game like your down by two touchdowns,
and don't wait until the second half to wake up.
It's championship time now. So play like it and
dominate and put teams away.

Posted by Romo & TO @ 4:40 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

DB, You are genius. You should have been our coach and personal advisor.

Where is your home buddy ?

Posted by Wade Philips @ 4:42 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

"Genius" DB: I will pass on your message to my players. Keep sending your "valuable" messages.

Posted by DB @ 4:47 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Romo & TO person:

I live in the Houston, Texas area and go back to the late 1960's as a fan when the Boy's first started their great history of championship play.
Now it is time for Romo & TO to step up their game, put teams away, and play like the Dallas Cowboys champion teams of the 1970's and 1990's.
It is time to dominate, it is time to win.

Posted by ernest t bass @ 4:56 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

So other than that ... So other than that ... And what not ... And what not ...

Just catch the ball and shut the hell up.

Posted by Bud @ 4:57 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

We should document the reporters who blew this one and hold them accountable!

Enough already! The scribes are the ones that should be apologizing for the poor job they have done with this story. I know that wont happen, and I also know that I will not be reading some of the reporters stories from now on. Why arent we hearing more about the pro bowl players and the next football game?

Posted by DB @ 4:59 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

It is time to Dominate and Win!

Posted by steven @ 5:05 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Someone mentioned a keith davis interview today where he punked Tim.

HOW CAN I HEAR THIS? WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

Posted by nctrnl @ 5:35 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Keith Davis audio was on 1310 today. It may show up on dallascowboys.com later, but I'm not sure.

Posted by TerriL @ 6:01 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Why is Tim getting blamed for his take on TO's comments. He posted the transcript of TO's comments yesterday for everyone to read. He posted an audio version so everyone could draw their own conclusions. And today he posted word for word what was said by TO today. And STILL some of y'all are jumping on Tim like he's done something irresponsible. You disagree? Fine disagree. But don't pretend like you didn't have the opportunity yesterday and today to draw your own conclusions just because today TO says he was joking.

Posted by kameleon_o @ 6:25 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Thanks once again for your valuable insight on TO and the Cowboys ernie T. Your nuggets of wisdom are so few and far between these days that sometimes we forget what the true Cowboys fans like you think. It's not about winning or losing or playing good, it's about the best way to slam a Cowboys player you don't like. Thanks again buddy...

Posted by Scott in SA @ 6:38 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

"Skip" McMoron's credibility is equal to or lesser than Roger Clemens' credibility. You've outed yourself as an anti-Boys hack. Good luck with the Philly Enquirer or NY Post. I can't believe you even have a job with a news outlet.

Posted by Give me a break @ 7:10 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

I don't have a problem with Tim. I have a problem with J-Simp.

She's an idiot and her family is disturbing and I question the sanity/intelligence of anyone who associates with her on a regular basis.

She's a sell-out and publicity hound and dumb/acting dumb because people think it's "cute," because that's the best way she knows how to be famous. And people buy into it, sadly enough. Her father is creepy, and she can't help that, but she can help how often he hangs out around. He's her manager, right? No.

And she has very little talent, or if she does, it's been overshadowed by her reality shows and clinging to men and camera-whining. She has no self-respect. And apparently, neither does Romo. He should have known better.

I've disliked her before this, by the way. It's just, before she started dating the QB of my favorite team, it was a lot easier for me to ignore her because she has no real career, unless appearing in US Weekly is an occupation.

And yes, he can still be a great football player. I just always thought he handled the whole publicity thing pretty well, was down-to-earth, etc. Obviously not. Like I said, he should have known better than to get involved with such a mess, however hot she may be. I thought the media was overstating their relationship, but apparently not.

Posted by Frank @ 7:13 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

It saddens me greatly that the media have sunk so low, as to turn to any excuse,to pump up their ratings. #1. People have to realize that writers who write tabloid garbage , should reap what they sow, and lose readers! #2. Writers have to realize that there are many weirdos on the internet who will actually believe, that the young lady who only came to support Tony, and the team, caused them to lose the game! And now she is getting much hate mail! How sad 20 years ago, no one would have ever paid any attention to such a stupid, loony, idiotic, point of view!

Posted by seattle seahawk @ 7:42 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Tony, drop jessica like a field goal attempt!

Posted by Dan @ 7:48 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Frank...that was a real lame post. Take of your pink undies and grow some whitey tighties big guy. I think tim has sensationalized this terrell stuff. He's expressing his opinion too much and trying to lead readers to believe things that may not be the case. DMN, shame on you.

Posted by Vaquero @ 8:10 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Hey wait a second! "Give me a break", your not fooling me. I know who you are. Your Carrie Underwood!

Posted by kameleon_o @ 8:19 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Gimme a break,

So the QB of your favorite team is going out with someone you don't like and now it makes him a worse person??? You've lost a little bit of respect for him?? BECAUSE OF THAT??? Gimme a br...well, you get the idea.

Posted by Jon @ 8:21 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

So TO thinks their game is Sunday? That can't be a good sign.

Posted by Surfer in Cali @ 8:24 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Vaquero, that was hilarious dude! Made me almost pee my boxers. Loved your post about this whole thing and faith and football.
Will we just cut this crap right here please!
We want to hear about real football sories ok!

Posted by pibill @ 8:30 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Is Jerry running the Cowboys or Cosmo?

Posted by Phill @ 9:18 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Now you're doing it - TO didn't say he thought the game was Sunday he said Romo would be ready to play Sunday. This is the scoop the media missed! Amid their rush to find Jessica realated controversy they missed TO letting slip that Romo won't be ready to play untill the day AFTER the game. We should all worry!

Posted by ernest t bass @ 9:23 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

The lamest part of this whole mess is that Owens' inability to generate publicity on his own compels him to hitch his shameless self-promotion wagon to Jessica Simpson. Next he'll be hitchin' himself to a smiling "kameleon" and wearin' the lil' fellar like a pelvic hood ornament all over town.

Photographers and Tabloid Timmy invited.

Posted by Jon in Seattle @ 11:01 PM Thu, Dec 20, 2007

Until us fans and citizens of the United States start telling these reporters and media to stop printing these nonsense, stupid, wasteful, only "looking to start trouble" stories, the media will not stop. Start giving us the "real news" stories about the Cowboys. No more tabloid journalism!!!!!

Posted by Mike @ 8:49 AM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

Wait a minute...Romo calls T.O. cause Jessica called him about what he said about her...
Romo, grow some huevos! Guy you're the QB of the DALLAS COWBOYS, YOU tell women what to do, NOT the other way around (TO would you pleeze call her to tell her you were just kidding) What a punk-a$$ move Romo!
IF you would've had your head in the game (as you normally do), we wouldnt be here talking about this woman, but such is the risk of high profile dating and, as the saying goes "if you cant handle the heat stay out of the kitchen", at least until after the SB.

Posted by daniel in denton @ 9:02 AM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

I'd still rather read tim's ramblings on TO's tabloid than jean jacket taylor

Posted by Jill @ 9:57 AM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

If To wanted JS phone # to apologize, he needs to
get Carries # too. She's had her name dragged into this mess. She was just named one of MSN 2007
Celebrities of the year. When Romo dated her she was smalltime and now she is a superstar. She doesn't deserve all this. She deserves an apology from TO and Tony.

Posted by kameleon_o @ 6:23 PM Fri, Dec 21, 2007

King of Lame, Sir ernie T. is in the house!!! Another timeless nugget from the oldest, and wisest, Cowboy fan around. Thanks again little guy. We've been afraid that you were off sucking your thumb despondent over TO's great season.

BTW ernie T. Cowboys are 12-2. I know it's killing you but....How 'bout them Cowboys!!!!!!
