T.O. vs. Keyshawn

2:44 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Let me begin by thanking Albert "Einstein" Breer for stooping to my sensationalistic level while I was tied up with boring corporate stuff today. T.O. lashing out at Keyshawn Johnson is pure blog gold!!

T.O. suggested that somebody compare his stats to Keyshawn's, and I'm always willing to fan the flames when the Original 81 starts flapping his gums. Follow the jump for indisputable statistical evidence that hatin' Keyshawn couldn't hold T.O.'s jock with two hands.

CAREER STATS

T.O. -- 875 catches for 12,985 yards (14.8 ypc) and 128 TDs in 171 games

Keyshawn -- 814 catches for 10,571 (13.0 ypc) and 64 TDs in 167 games

PLAYOFF STATS

T.O. -- 50 catches for 702 yards and four TDs in 10 games

Keyshawn -- 39 catches for 569 yards and two TDs in seven games

STATS AS COWBOY

T.O. -- 159 catches for 2,450 yards and 27 TDs in 29 games

Keyshawn -- 141 catches for 1,820 yards and 12 TDs in 32 games

Certainly think it is NO CONTEST, but think who Keyshawn had throwing him the ball while he was here.

Posted by Don Haberthur @ 3:37 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

I for one am glad To spoke up for himself, Im sick of ESPN trying to down grade TO. Keyshawn Johnson was never half the player that TO is.

Posted by Vaughn @ 3:49 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

It's painfully obvious the distain ESPN has for the Cowboys and T.O. He's not a "quote machine" "accident waiting to happen" anymore and it's like they can't beleive he's grown up. If you all noticed, last week they started the NFL Countdown segment with Ditka saying "He's going to go off sooner or later" I'm like why? is it necessary??. Dude has changed for the better... GIVE IT A GOT DANG break already!!!

Posted by Ethan @ 4:25 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

ESPN already has this story posted on their main page... go figure. They just will not leave him alone. Nothing TO said about Keyshawn was false. ESPN is going to turn this into a big thing now. Sunday Countdown will be a TO-bashing party.

It's amazing the number of former Cowboys now employed and formerly employed by ESPN, yet they treat the Cowboys fans like rubes. And by the way, why is Chris Berman still bumbling and stumbling through introductions of people who can speak clearly?

Posted by Mark @ 4:53 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

Wait. You can say what you want about Owens, but lets stick to the facts:

I like BP always have. Great coach, great NJ guy.
Bottom line is Bill did not perform the way they expected in Dallas. He underachieved for all the hoopla assigned to the hiring. Yes, Bill built the current Cowboy roster and SHOULD get a significant amount of credit. But Dungy built the Bucs while Gruden got the credit. I don't hear Keyshawn singing Dungy's praises.

Bill was hired to get the Cowboys to the SB...Did not get them a single playoff win. In 4 years the Cowboys did not live up to the hype in the W/L column. Yes, Bill bought the ingredients, yes. But Phillips brought the best out of the players with his approach and communication skills. Key shows class by sticking with his coach, but that same coach let Johnson leave in favor of Owens, whether it was Bill's idea or not.

Now, to the second part of this.
Who is the better WR? Owens or Johnson? Stats say Owens goes to the Hall with or without a SB win. Key even with his ring is a questionable choice. Owens is spot on about Key on this Cowboys team. If Glenn is not hurt Keyshawn is battling Patrick Crayton for playing time. And I am not completely sure who wins, but to be fair I'll give the nod to Key.

Bottom line is this is stupid. The Cowboys have not won a single thing and already people are running around looking to assign credit for an unfinished job. Jason Witten is on track to have a better year as a TE then any of the 2 years Key had as a WR in Dallas, In both yards and TD's.

Key ever lead the league in TD's? no. Yards? no. Truth is his stats don't come close to Owens and last I checked Key is losing the TD race by only a few ....try 128-64. IMHO, all this is is Key trying to create controversy and attempting to help Bill stay relevant by drawing attention to Bill's recent affiliation with Dallas.

Mind your business Key. Your most recent claim to fame is talking up the guy in the draft that actually took your job in Carolina and hastening your retirement.

Sorry, guys, but if you subtract T.O.s stats with Romo as his quarterback, there's not much difference between him and T.O. Keyshawn never got to play with Romo or he might have had similar stats. You're just not giving Romo the phenomenal credit he deserves. Once again, more evidence that it's Romo, not T.O.

Keyshawn is a joke.. a hater.. and it's horrible. Mind you that he won a super bowl due to his Coach knowing the other team better than Belichick Filming it in HD !!! That Tampa Defense won that Super Bowl.. Not Keyshawn's offense.. It was a cheap super bowl Funny thing is that Gruden soldout his own playbook to win that superbowl and showed the world how to beat it.. and every team proceeded to whip him for years after that.

Keyshawn hates Owens.. He hates Moss, because he wish he was them .. The Jets didn't like him, Tampa Didn't .. do you remember what Ronde Barber and Warren Sapp had to say about him ?? He finally found love in Dallas where we cheered him and he was with his Daddy Parcells. Until Jerry made Bill kick Keyshawn to the curb for his Chief Rival.. Then He had to kiss the butt and play 2nd feddle to Steve Smith (that was sad)

So Yes I can clearly see why Keyshawn IS hating.. and for those who said Keyshawn didn't have Romo.. Please remember Romo has never played without T.O. and Not saying Romo is fraud Because he is the True Jedi.. BUT. T.O. makes Qb's Greater and Keyshawn Does NOT !! and Key hates that also..

Last week all we heard from the media was that we should leave Kitna alone because what he spoke was the truth. Well everyone should also leave T.O. alone because all he did was speak the truth. You guys have been waiting all year for a quote from T.O. that you could run with. Get over it and try to acknowledge the fact he has had a great year.

Posted by Saint Jimmy @ 9:11 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

People seem to forget that old and true Switzer saying when people bashed him for winning with Jimmy's players: I could have lost with Jimmy's players too.

It's the same thing here. Wade could have bungled it all up and we'd be 4-9 right now. But he didn't so he deserves more credit than he's getting.

Posted by Joe Duarte @ 10:34 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

I miss Keyshawn, and I wish we had both Key and T.O. on the roster.

Key was a great possession receiver who made amazing catches in traffic.

Posted by John @ 11:04 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007

hey mark; key did give dungy credit for building that tampa team...key is right, t.o. is a hater and will find a way to screw up the cowboys, wait till they lose a game or two..god forbid it happens in the playoff, then we'll see the "real" t.o.
t.o reminds me of a snowy monday in january - no class!

Posted by Joeskiluv @ 1:32 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

How about this one fellas? Monday Night Football in 2003 when the Bucs played host to Indy and Indy was down 21 with less than 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. You could here Me-Shawn talking smack about Marvin Harrison. What happened? Bucs lose. Keyshawn was or is not even half the reciever T.O. is! He was never a game changing player or even a home run threat. All he ever was was a chain mover! Hey Key, stop hatin.

Posted by Jrs2300 @ 1:40 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I remember Keyshawn talking smack to Gruden Live on TV.. Never saw T.O. do that to the Head Coach..
and Sure Keyshawn gave Dungy credit.. After he stopped loving Gruden and turned on the guy who got him a RING.. Ungrateful.

and For the last time.. what's this about T.O. being upset when a team is losing.. He is a PRIME STAR it's like Keeping your best Basketball or Baseball player on the Bench when you don't give him the chance to do what he does..

More players should be upset when a team is losing.. at least it shows they care.. Randy Moss would just sit there like OH Well.. or walk to the Lockerroom before the game is over..

Posted by Heath @ 2:44 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Joe had it right up above.

Keyshaun was a possession receiver who would take a hit and get you first downs. Terrell has always been less sure, but with much more big play potential.

Very different receivers. And while KJ certainly never played with a quarterback like Romo, he wouldn't put up the gaudy numbers T.O. is with him either.

I like KJ but come on. Bill doesn't need defending. It's T.O.'s stage now. If anything I would like Bill, while still a personnel master in my mind, to admit the game's x's and o's have passed him by a bit.

Posted by John in SA @ 6:14 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

I believe ESPN constantly takes shots in Terrell's direction in hopes of creating a controversy they can headline.

What they shouldn't do is use Keyshaun. The guy really doesn't speak that well even when he knows what he wants to say.

As far as Wade goes. Look at San Diego. They had a good team last year. Why haven't they prospered with what the previous cach built?

Remember last year in Romo's first start when Carolina Keyshawn dropped a key third down pass when the game was still close? The floodgates soon opened on a 35-14 Cowboy victory. That was sweet. Thanks Key!

Posted by clayton @ 9:07 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Who cares, TO will never win a super bowl. He's a punk always was...I'd take KJ over that clown anyday.

Posted by P.G. Warren @ 9:27 AM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

Dont forget Parcells traded Joey Galloway for Johnson. Galloway has been a stud since leaving big D. Johnson is an overated fraud thats why Carolina didnt want him.

Imagine Galloway and TO running wild!!!

Posted by John @ 4:11 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

jrs2300 i can respect that, cause i love starvin' marvin. he's the man! now t.o. is a chump, its ok to get mad when your losing, but it's not okay to criticize your teamates publicly or priavately. if you look at t.o.'s career he's a hall of famer you can't deny it, but its gonna be really tough to find someone to do his induction...

Posted by thomas @ 7:46 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007

espin finally got their uncle tom (keyshawn) to do their dirty work in going after TO. its been slow news since film-gate.

TO, dont take the bait. you have serious football fans. kj just cant stand your sucess knowing he did not contribute to HIS superbowl ring. It was the tampa 2 that drove that ring. just ask brad johnson.
