A bone-chilling, heartbreaking playoff memory

The weather forecast for Green Bay this weekend has folks reminiscing about the Ice Bowl. (A Packers-Cowboys NFC championship game matchup would have done the trick, too, but that's another story.)

The great Frank Luksa, who froze his rear end off in the Lambeau Field press box that bitter winter day 40 years ago, penned a wonderfully entertaining Ice Bowl recollection for ESPN.com. Love reading details like the snot icicles dangling from legendary coach Tom Landry's nose.

EDITORS' NOTE: The game story from The Dallas Morning News can be found here.

Romo said—upon his return from his beach vacation—“I believe I know what I need to do to be ready.”

Simple question. Was he right or was he wrong?

About that same time, Philips said that what his players do on their time is their business.

Simple question. Was he right or was he wrong?

The results are so obvious, it’s almost disgusting.

We still have no explanation for why things went so wrong in Buffalo, much less why we lost to Philadelphia and Washington.

Thank you for listening.

Ash,

Are you serious? They were both right! Or both wrong! The truth lies somewhere in the middle. I think Romo does know what it takes. It's people like you that have decided to blame the loss on his vacation. What Wade's players do on their time is their business! (As long as they're not late to meetings, practice and show up on gameday.) If you're disgusted by this, there are other teams to root for...The Texans would let you jump on their bandwagon, I'm sure. Sorry you have to catch all of this, but you opened yourself up for it.

Let it go, man...

You picked 2 of the 3 regular season losses and asked "What went wrong" or "Why we lost"? Because those teams on the other sidelines, the ones in the different jerseys? They pay their players too! Buffalo? Did you watch the game? The Bills are an up & coming team for one thing. Second, they had a near perfect defensive gameplan against our passing game. Oh, by the way...We won that game on the road, just like Carolina and Detroit. You probably didn't deserve getting torn a new one this morning, but I'm back to being sick of the whiney Cowboys fan. I'm ready to move on to replacing coaches, free agency and the draft.

Wow, Rams Fan, surprisingly thats one of the smartest things you've ever said.

Hey guys, that isn't the real RAMS FAN, it's the ever-so-jealous Saint Jimmy pretending to be him. Saint Jimmy doesn't like it when the real Rams Fan steals his spot light. Pity.

Whoa... What's with the "Editors' Note"? Didn't realize that an editor reviewed the blog. How is it that all of Breer's spelling mistakes have passed the editors' keen eye?

BTW, nice post RAMS FAN.

The only thing worse than playing in zero degree weather is watching in zero degree weather while sitting on snow covered concrete bleachers. Those Green Bay fans are loyal, but nuts!

By the way, can we get rid of the scoreboard at the top of this blog? I'd like to forget it!

Could we please get some idea of what happened last night after Garrett got back to Dallas. Newspapers from all over the freakin' country are covering this story better than "our guys" are! Supposedly he's narrowed it down to the Ravens and staying put in Dallas...Of course, I don't know why baltimoresun.com would have any info that we don't, right? Maybe we can get some more Jessica stories or history lessons about the Ice Bowl. Losers.

Littley Timmy Burns and the other misfits that call themselves Cowgirl fans! The Packers destroyed you back in the Ice Bowl, and would have destroyed you again this Sunday if you guys could hold up your end of the bargain, but no...you can't even beat the lowly Giants. Your current team and entire organization over the years is completely overrated. Best spectacle in sports is watching your greedy owner buy players left and right and then still fail. You guys are awful.

Look, I'd rather still be playing too. A short five weeks ago though, we kicked your a** on national TV, ended a nice Packer six-game winning streak and knocked Lord Favre the f-out. So don't come on here, chest all bowed out & sh*t. Or need I remind you about those 3 playoff games in the 90's or your 4-11-0 ALL-TIME record in Dallas including 1-4 in postseason play. I'm rooting for GB to embarrass the Giants this weekend, but you...? You can play in taffic, numbn*ts.

I agree Jacques Reeves was a problem all year. But he was specifically targeted prior to the game and then Giants were allowed to get away with murder at will.
P. S. The coaching fell trap to another poor ending of the regular season under the guise of nothing to gain. Consistency and rhythm were the fartherest thing from their game.
