You might recall the depressing story ESPN.com recently ran about former Cowboy CB Clayton Holmes. Jeff Pearlman penned a follow-up that to report that Holmes might be in the process of getting his life together. Perhaps most important, Holmes says he is determined to make renewed efforts to reach out to his children. |

Man, that last paragraph hits hard. I mean, whether he's right or wrong about it, it's been written. I'm sure lots of guys from the 90's squad aren't distancing themselves from him. But I would think more than just one would have reached out to him. Because really, that drug lifestyle was shared by a few of them guys, and I'm sure it didn't help Clayton at all. I mean, Tui, Lett, Michael, Fredo Roberts, and probably many more were all smoked by drugs from that team. Jacked up man...jacked up. And what tha heck is that about SCIENTOLOGY? I hope that doesn't thrash him worse down the road. He needs to seek GOD.

I agree that he needs to find GOD but it does sound like he's at least on the right path to hopefully get his life back in order.
I wish him the best.

Lets give a hearty Amen! We will pray for him and hope that his life turns around the way that he says. God, family, country, then football guys. Dont ever forget that!

as is he could probably do a better job than Reeves did against the Giants...HA HA HA...BTW...that Scientology will sure straighten you out...yikes!!!...

Just like he said, in the end its just a team. It really is sad that only one person from the team made contact. I guess if you had to leave it to guys like Emmitt to call, you'd end up waiting for a long time.
I like how a lot of these athletes raise their hands to God on the field, then forget about their fellow man off of it.

BTW....I would like to apologize to all Cowboys fans. I am jealous of all your SB trophies and your class organization.
Meanwhile I have to contend with my own team who has the most idiotic owner this side of Al Davis. I forgot to mention Vinny Cerrato who is going to singe-handedly drive my racist-themed team into the ground.
Holla for a sorry-butt franchise!

speaking of Clayton Holmes, it just goes to show you the different sensibility that Jimmy had re the draft. If he saw a hole in his team, he drafted multiple players to try and fill that hole. He did not mess around. After Kramer torched that backfield in the 91 play-offs, Holmes was one of many DBs I believe Jimmy took in that 92 draft, Woodson included. Didn't K. Smith go 1st?

Wow. When I decided to log back on here tonight, this is not what I expected. All I can say is, don't judge a man until you've walked in his footsteps. From the brutal abuse as a kid, to the money and glory that 3 SB trophies bring, it's hard to imagine that he has many people that cab relate to his life experiences.
The "team" not reaching out doesn't surprise me. J-Dub is a righteous guy. But so many of those players are sad examples of what happened to athletes after their playing days were over. (And the big checks stopped coming every Tuesday.) Nate sold pot. Tui OD'd on heroin & ecstasy. A few role-players ended up in prison or broke.
I hope Holmes gets it together, for his kids if for no other reason. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but he's got a tough row to hoe. I really thought after the 1st story, the next thing we'd read was his obit. Now it looks like he may have a chance. And whether it takes God, some 12-step program, Scientology or whatever I'll be pulling for him to recover. There, if it wasn't for the grace of God, go you and I, right?

That comment, whether in jest or not, is typical of the reprobates from the northeast that hide behind their keyboards pretending they are man enough to converse with real people.
In reality, it probably still lives with mother and uses the Internet to satisfy cravings not fulfilled by socializing with anyone that remotely resembles a human.
It's one thing to rag on an opposing team, it's another thing to display this vile deviant's ramblings.
DMN, you HAVE to implement a system to weed out these miscreants and degenerates that are fouling the spirit of this forum.
Simply blocking this heteroclite's IP address will probably do the trick.

Ranch Hand,
The DMN, Belo and the "blog owners" couldn't care less. Trust me, I've been down this road. T-Mac and Breer have agreed ...There's a problem with this blog and its uncensored comments section. But from the e-mails I've received, they don't have a clue how to clean it up. I recommended the blocking of IP addresses and it fell on deaf ears. They won't even agree to remove offensive posts. I went pretty far up the ladder and got nothing but apologies and lip service. They care more about numbers of hits than quality of content. That's why I've stayed away. Good luck. Tim

You guys are being punked! Don't believe such a gutless, wanna-be for an impostor.
I always confine my comments to football and the ramifications thereof. My impersonator above probably couldn't even spell 'ramifications' without copying and pasting it from my post here.
I would NEVER write such things. All my best to Mr. Holmes and his family and I hope and pray he gets his life together.
My hat's off to the Cowboys in as much as they have the foresight to hire Calvin Hill and put a mentoring and guidance program in place for players who might fall from the straight and narrow.
And my hat's also off, of course, for your cheerleaders. The first and the best. In fact, I think any red-blooded heterosexual male who claims not to agree that the Cowboys cheerleaders are the bomb is an outright liar.
So there you have it. I respect the Cowboys on the field. I respect their efforts with regard to players' personal lives. I (really) respect their cheerleading squad.
But for my impersonator . . . I have zero respect.

AHEM!!!...Naughty Naughty Bad Bad kids!!! The camping trip is now officially cancelled and my man Rothchild has punctured those blow-up dolls of football players you both so deeply cherish and are so mysteriously attached to. Now about this rubbish about litigation and "going to the top"!!! There will be none of that I say. We will not waste family money on such tomfoolery!!! What I will spend family money on is for counseling for the both of you. Now I know why Jim was always found in Timmy's room all those mornings!! And this makes me sick with upchuck CHILDREN!! You call yourselves Burnsies!!! What a mockery and defilement of the good family name!!!!!

pssst...Tim Burns...FYI...you are not fooling anybody with your JTT moniker...HA HA HA...Hail to the Redskins!!!...
p.s.
why do you crack on most sportswriters and then post as if you are writing a story as a famed sports columnist? And do you know why "we" know its you regardless of your moniker? you ask so many open ended questions in your posts like Jean Jacques Taylor; Timmy Cow; etc...geeesh!!!

I am alittle baffeled after reading the first story about Clayton. The part where he says that a school girl pulled his pants down and laughed at his small penis. I remember one of the Cowboys from the 90's once saying that Clayton was the most incredibly endowed atheletes that you could imagine.

Redskins_Mule,
1) JTT and I have agreed and disagreed enough around here for any thinking reader to know we're hardly the same person.
2)If "posting as if you are writing a story as a famed sports columnist" means that I try to avoid misspelling every other word and grammatical errors, I'm guilty as charged.
3) My problem with sportswriters is easy enough to understand, even for you. They make educated guesses, represent them as facts to the fans, then never revisit the topic, (except for the 50% of the time when they're correct). That makes them frauds. I like MMBQ as much as the next guy. But King and Mortenson are paid very well to break stories, not for being 100% accurate. Cowlishaw is an a**-clown...No better than Bayless. The guys at PFT used to be pretty good, but even they've gone mainstream now which makes it hard to take them serious. And what does it matter? Is it so bad that I doubt most of what they say? Is that any worse than sheep that treat these guys' opinions like gospel? There are some great sportswriters out there. Frank DeFord and Mitch Albom come to mind. Oh and some of the MENSA candidates that post comments on this blog are excellent...
It's good to see that even when I take a break, my f**king family is still here, carrying on as usual. Give it a rest. If it was even remotely funny, I would laugh along, but it's a tired bit. So here's a big "digitus infamis" to all of my relatives, (and to "Ranch Hand's Gay Sheep" and the fake Saint Jimmy and all of the other colorful characters that you so cowardly hide behind to post here.) Please, take your vocational school education and your imbecilic comedy show and move along. All you're doing is impeding traffic around here, constipating things, if you will... Yes, this blog needs an enema!

Ok, once and once only, I will address my DMN "family” on this here blog…
There is no "Jim Burns". I have no brothers or sisters. Jim's real name is Cornelius "Eric" Shin, and he was homeless and living at the Texas Boys Ranch in the 70's. Cornelius and I went to middle school together. After school, my friends would play "tackle-the-man-with-the-ball", but Eric always insisted on calling it "smear-the-qu**r" when he had the football. His only real claim to fame was that he had a lobster-claw for a left hand and charged kids 10 cents to look at it. Years later I saw him sleeping on the sidewalk outside the public library. (This is how he accesses the internet.) He noticed me and asked for money for a 40 oz. Olde English 800. I refused and he swore to hunt me down and he would have his revenge. He found me here. The last I heard, he had been arrested for "roughing up the suspect" while looking at porn on the library computer.
Then there is the cleverly named, “O’Howit Burns” who claimed to be an uncle. This is just an old man who lived on the edge of town and asked all of the area kids to call him "Uncle Salty". I stayed away from him, even though he used to cruise the schools with money hanging out of his shirt pocket. My mom once told me his name was Prancock Putz, and the whole Putz family was "slow", as people used to say back then. They weren't even from West Texas, or Texas at all, but had moved here from Mianus, Connecticut because Mr. Putz was convicted of animal cruelty, (bestiality). He said he was practicing "animal husbandry" but the judge disagreed and banned the Putzes from ever living in Mianus or Connecticut again. His nickname was something that WE gave him, because of his tendency to visit the nearby legal brothels, across the border in Mexico. (We called him O'Howit Burns but his family called him "Stinkypants".) He was always coming back from Ciudad Acuna with the clap and other STD's that weren't so easy to cure. When I was in high school, Mr. Putz and his family were known as the "squatters", because they had taken over a piece of Burns property North of town and refused to leave. (Kind of like he's done with this blog.) There was a meth lab explosion in his trailer in the early 80's, and during his hospitalization, he was discovered to be a eunuch. (Once again, his nickname resurfaced). The courts got involved again and "O'Howit", aka Mr. Putz, was forced to leave the San Angelo area or be jailed for his little "chemical fire" and for trespassing on my families Indian Burial Grounds. He popped up in Jacka$$ Junction, FL years later, where he would actually be elected to serve two terms as mayor, before being run out of town for embezzlement and what the English call "buggery". He had disappeared for 2 decades before popping up on this blog.
As for the others? They're just bandwagoners. My dear dad is deceased...as dead as Tom Landry and John Wayne. So Richard "Dick" Burns, Esq. is simply another fraud. I had his IP address traced to a Hotmail account registered to a Kato Serwanga of the Boston area. I’m starting to see a trend here. This is all true and none of the names have been changed to protect anyone. I was just getting tired of all of these miscreants lifting their collective leg all over my good family name. I’ll be around.

I am curious about one of the comments made in reference to the Holmes article. Wasn't there a former Cowboy name Dexter Clinkscale?
