Cowboys pick Campo

Albert Breer   E-mail   News tips

According to a source, the Cowboys have plucked Dave Campo to be their new secondary coach.

The Cowboys were resolute in getting Campo on board, as the Jaguars initially turned down a Dallas request to speak with their assistant head coach. But a second shot at it got the Cowboys the permission they needed, and Campo will return to Valley Ranch.

There will be a press conference at 2 p.m. to welcome him. More in a bit ...

WHAT??

*listens as news of this hiring derails the entire Super Bowl Media Day as reporters abandon the players to rush to Dallas to cover this breaking news story*

ROFL, what happened to not interfering with the SB coverage? Guess it's more of idiot Jerry's work, right.

Ya'll know what this means right?

It means,

SCOREBOARD COWBOYS

As if Jerry would sit back and let someone else steal his thunder. :)

Posted by tugturdwell @ 11:32 AM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Good Scoreboard, Bill in DC. Great news. Campo will turn Roy Willie around. People forget what he did with Larry Brown and Thomas Everett.

Now let's sign up Capers. Who cares that they both sucked as HC's. We are not hiring them has HC's. They will do what they do best...and that's coach defense.

Posted by Robert @ 11:40 AM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

I'm just wondering how effective Campo will be with Wade's 3-4 defense when all of his experience is with a 4-3 defense.

Posted by Redskins_Rule @ 11:44 AM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

you knew he was gonna get the job after Timmy Mac posted that picture of him and Coach Joe tickling Wade's stomach while Wade was floating on his back at Sea World...HA HA HA...Hail to the Redskins!!!...

Posted by BReed @ 11:50 AM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

One more to go....Avazano!!! We can't keep giving up the yardage on special teams like last year. It puts too much strain on your defense and makes average QBs look super (see Eli).

Posted by dave in austin @ 12:01 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

BReed - good call. Campo wasnt' the best HC, but the 'boys were in salary cap doom. Special teams does need to be addressed.

Here's to hoping Jerry's lust for D-Mac doesn't ruin the draft. I like Felix Jones as a scat back to compliment MB3. Draft a CB and/or WR with the first rounders. Use mid- to late round picks on special team standouts.

Posted by A-cast @ 12:03 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Never seems to amaze me but never doubted that Jerry would do something like this on Superbowl week. I'm still waiting for the signing of Pac-Man any minute now. I like the idea of former HCs in the house as long as they don't get into p*ssing matches and can work well together. In a nutshell, you've got Tony Romo, T.O., Witten, MB3, improved D after draft, Experienced HCs running your team, What does this mean? I'll tell you what this means
Scoreboard Jerry!

Posted by GMEN 4EVER @ 12:10 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

No, I'LL tell you what this means . . .

SCOREBOARD DOUCHEBAGS!!!!

I said it TWICE so it would sink in with you Dallas Dorks!

GMEN - 37
Patriots - 32

Posted by ap @ 12:13 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Avazzano would seem to complete the coaching cast, except for one thing: the current special teams coach is still in place, whereas all of the other openings were caused by staff bolting to Miami. And if memory serves, part of the reason for Wade Phillips being from Buffalo was because he refused to fire his special teams coach (Bruce DeHaven) when the owner demanded a scapegoat for the "Music City Miracle".

Is Bruce Read a "Parcells Guy"?

Posted by Redskins_Rule @ 12:16 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

here's something to try and wrap your head around Cow-Cattle fans...Jerry trades up to #1 in the draft and satisfies the Tuna with picks and players the Cowboys don't need; and then he trades down 4-5 slots...I wonder if he could get back more with his trading of the #1 pick than what he gave up to get the #1 pick...just a thought...crazier stuff has been proposed on this blog lately...

Posted by Macarthur @ 12:20 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

This is really amazing. It appears the Tuna's raid of our coaching staff is actually going to result in an overall upgrade in the staff, and not by a little.

This could be in the discussion of the top coaching staff in the whole league.

Posted by Crod @ 12:21 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Hiring 2 former head coaches (if Capers gets hired as LB coach) as defensive assistants and also a former defensive coordinator as DL coach is beyond huge! Two of these guys know the 3-4 scheme.

This could only mean one thing:when Garrett gets the big job he'll sure already have the D minds on the staff. HUGE KUDOS to Jones for pulling this off. No excuses now.

Posted by tugturdwell @ 12:22 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

GMEN 4EVER...as much as I hate the Giants..I hate the Cheatriots worse. I hope the Giants pull off the biggest upset since a brash young quaterback wearing white shoes guaranteed victory in 1968.

Posted by A-cast @ 12:23 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

The only douchebag is your Giligan looking QB that still doesn't know why he's in Arizona. Your Defense is the only reason the G-strings are in the superbowl so enjoy it before your 2008 season falls apart.
Avazzano would be cool to get back and wouldn't be surprised if it happens. I see a Dream Team in the making...Players and Coaches. It all comes down to the draft.

Patriots 62
Giants 3
I'd hate to see any of this sc*mbags win

Posted by GD @ 12:32 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

I find it interesting that a Giants fan reads this blog. I would think Giants fans would be more interested in the Super Bowl. I guess being a COwboy hater is a full time job because this GMEN guy clearly doesn't have a real one.

There is only one thing I enjoy more than the Cowboys winning, and that's reading or listening to other teams fans get fired up about the Cowboys. As they say, the opposite of love is not hate but indifference. Keep up the good work Gman.

R_R...I don't think JJ will go all way up to #1...too many picks and too much number one money you would have to shell out. More likely scenario is moving up to 4 with Al. He may still get D-MAC at 4.

And if he doesn't do that...this draft is deep in quality RB and WR...he could trade one of ones out and pick up 2 more #2's or a high 2 and a 3. A one and 3 deuces in a deep draft is pretty good. He could then still get a really good corner with that remaining one and pick up a quality RB and WR and a safety/OL with those 3 #2's.

Posted by COWBOY BILL LAMZA @ 1:00 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

campo is over the hill and useless now. his days f helping a defense are gone. Just another way to try and screw wade over and promote nutless garrett to hc. Nice going jerkoff jones. Number 1 cowboy fan here and Im telling you jerkoff doesnt know what he is doing.

Posted by Redskins_Rule @ 1:03 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

I think I'm a better forecaster than the "Celebrity Blogger"...what did I tell you?...Garrett runs the O...Capers and Camps runs the D...Wayne stands on the sideline in his red-checkered pants and suspenders holding a giant plastic hamburger over his head during the games...HA HA HA...Hail to the Redskins!!!...

Posted by Mark @ 1:09 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Good, I like Camps as the Secondary Coach. Hope he can get R-Dub back to his rookie form in 2002.

Welcome back Coach Campo!

Posted by Redskins_Rule @ 1:14 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Wade needs to just throw it in...the writing is clearly on the wall...Capers runs a totally different 3-4 [zone blitz schemes] than Wade's "attacking Phillips" 3-4...don't open that inter-office envelope from Jerry Wade!!!...looks like Jerry received a copy of Al's resignation memo to Kiffin and just modified it accordingly...HA HA HA...

Posted by A-cast @ 1:32 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Cowboy Bill
Are you the Cowboy Bill here in Houston that's always on the radio? I just moved from Dallas to Houston and it sucks being a Diehard Cowboy in H-Town even thought cowboy fans outnumber Texan fans. What you have against Jerry making Red the future coach for the Cowboys? Wade has it made cuz he could win a superbowl with this coaching staff without all the pressure and have a better chance of coaching somewhere else afterwards...that is if he doesn't decide to retire with a superbowl ring.

Posted by g-man @ 1:55 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

The WORLD is calling your quarterback "Tony Homo"
You've got a frog for a head coach
Now this!!
Is Chan Gailey dead???

You must be crazy!

(the original) G-MAN

GMEN 4EVER,

You know you're just as suprised as anyone else to see the NYG in the SuperBowl and here you are calling Cowboy Fans D.BAGS!!! I guess Im sorta pulling for the NYG to Up-Set the Patsi's but wont be suprised or feel too bad if they kick Your NY Giants butts up and down the field...then you can insert that D.Bag!comment up YOUR A.Cavity & Enjoy the taste of that you Punk.

A-cast,
I'm pretty sure the various "Cowboy Bill"s here are impostors/Texans trolls.

Campo Sucks

Posted by jerryblowsasgm @ 3:25 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Hire all the coaches you want. If you don't have the talent it won't help you. Dallas has no defensive backfield talent. NONE! Drat Cromartie ! Then trade whatever u need to , to get Dmac. He is better than Peterson.

Posted by boston bob @ 6:18 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

GMEN 4 EVER, tugturdwell, keep dreaming. Patriots 19 and 0.

Posted by real cowboy fan @ 8:28 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

Cowboy Bill I have never seen anyone as negative as you on virtually anything and everything the Cowboys do. Why don't you just shut the f*** up and go elsewhere.

Posted by Jim in Austin @ 9:41 PM Tue, Jan 29, 2008

no talent, jerryblowsasgm, yet we just set the nfl record by sending 13 players to the pro bowl! no, talent is not the problem, but the coaching is suspect. so, bring in the talent in that arena and let's see what happens.
