Jerry confirmed that the Cowboys are preparing as if the three assistant coaches whose contracts expired won't be back. At this point, it'd be surprising if Todd Bowles (secondary), Paul Pasqualoni (linebackers) and Kacy Rodgers (defensive line) don't join Tony Sparano and Bill Parcells in Miami. The Cowboys are interviewing candidates to replace those assistants at the Senior Bowl this week. We'll get you names of candidates as soon as possible. Ex-Cowboy LB Dat Nguyen, the Cowboys' defensive quality control assistant/assistant LB coach, could replace Pasqualoni. |

Rodgers will probably be the toughest to replace. I think Bowles leaving is probably a good thing, as the secondary was prone to big mistakes at the wrong times. Too many times seeing Roy and Reeves with the "oh Darn" hand slap. Let Wade bring in more of his own guys. 2nd year in the defense and offense should ahow some improvement as it will be more comfortable for the reads and such.

How about getting Deon "Primtime" Sanders to coach the secondary.

Why all the concern about these guys leaving? Heck, they should have been FIRED already. This secondary couldn't cover an infant in a stroller. And the linebackers and defensive line? They were being shredded by opposition running backs at the end of the year. This defense has always looked better than it was. Whenever it was time for them to make THE STOP, they failed. Just like the game against the Giants, right before halftime. Good riddance!

Do you think Wade could bring in some of his old coaches from San Diego?

Has another team's staff ever been raided like William has done to the Pokes? Oh, well. It is America's team, and most everone once wants a piece of America.

I agree, some new blood in these assistant defensive coaches position can't hurt. Every team doesn't have a No. 1 pick or big time free agent at every secondary position and they still stop people. We virtually do and can't. The LB's were okay this year, not great not horrible. I do think the D-Line did a heck of a job though. As for firing, throw the Special Teams coach into the mix, that unit's covergae teams failed from pre-season to the playoffs.

I dunno, PaulC. I'd be inclined to miss Pasqualoni and Rodgers, as I thought the front seven did its best job in years. (By that, I mean that I expected them to get to the QB more often than not on pass plays, and I haven't been able to say that about the pass rush in years.)
However, I'm with you on Bowles. As I said to Sherrington in chat today, I don't care if they like him or not - if he's coaching a seven-to-eight yard cushion on receivers like Toomer (whom I could outrun) and Plaxico the Weenie on one bad foot - you're right, he should have been fired.
How about Larry Brown, Darren Woodson or Kevin Smith for secondary coaches?

Why would our ex-o-line coach that a lot of bloggers here and other teams held in such high regard (Sparano) want to make Todd Bowles (the secondary coach that everbody here is wanting to run off) defensive coordinator in Miami?
I don't get it...

I just stopped at the Ranch and dropped off three boxes for them that I found in the back of Whataburger. I want to make sure they take all their great defensive schemes with them. Looks like someone beat me there and had just dropped off a U-haul ...Roy Williams 31 was gagged and tied up in the back.
