The Cowboys could use a shutdown cornerback and big-play return man, right? Well, Pacman Jones fits the description. Great news: Pacman wants to play for the Cowboys!! He says so on this video that ProFootballTalk.com found. “Hopefully I can get out of Tennessee. I want to go up to Dallas,’’ Jones says. “So we’ll see how it goes and I am just going to keep my head up.” There is the minor issue of Pacman being suspended, but that didn't stop Jerry from signing Tank Johnson, who created a bunch of buzz but didn't make much impact this season. Of course, Pacman makes Tank look like an Eagle Scout. There are no signs from Valley Ranch that rain is in the forecast, but that shouldn't stop us from debating whether Pacman would be a good fit for the Cowboys. What do you folks think? |

I think PacMac would be a great fit for the Cowboys.

We need a corner...
Posted by Dave in Dubai @ 1:52 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Look, Tank and the Original 81 have been former troublemakers that have turned out fine.
We should bring the Pac to Dallas because we need all the help we can get in the secondary, especially if Roy Williams has a heart attack and chokes on a Krispy Kreme. Then we would need to move Henry to safety, and Pac is all the more valuable.
Look, Pac WANTS to come here, so maybe that means he is willing to make changes if Jerry were to bring him here.

The Cowboys need a GREAT corner. Let's stop playing around and try to get Pacman,
Posted by 05mustang @ 1:55 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Perhaps all he needs is a change of scenery and new friends. He could be a big upgrade over Reeves and a great punt/kickoff returner!
Posted by 5xSuper @ 1:56 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Yeah, I don't have to live with this guy and he's not raising my kids... If he's truly done with his past and can mature, then sign him to a "no lose" situation deal. He'll be pretty cheap.
Roy Williams (Detroit WR), also said he wants to go to Dallas. "Closer to home."
Could you imagine? T.O. and Roy Williams; T. Newman and Pacman Jones... WOW!!!
Posted by Brian M., Atlanta @ 1:56 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Hey, he may be unreliable right now off the field, but on the field he's one of the best shutdown CBs in the game and is the only return man that can rival Hester. So, bring him in, TODAY, allow these matured vets to take him under their wing, allow Calvin Hill to mentor him, turn the kid around, and have him ready to be the cornerstone of a dominant defense in '08.
Posted by Eric @ 1:57 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Jerry does seem to run a great personality rehabilitation clinic at Valley Ranch, and the 'Boys do need another good corner, but the line has to be drawn somewhere...right?

With respect to Calvin Hill, I'm not sure if the big man upstairs could mentor Adam Jones. He's a huge liability and I for one became ashamed of the off the field issues the Cowboys faced in the 90's.
We have good cornerbacks. Our reserves stink and it begins with Jacque Reeves. He's barely worthy of being on the practice squad. Asante Samuel is an unrestricted free agent. That's spending your $$$ wisely!

If he wants to come here I say let him come. The fact that he wants to play here is a sign that he wants to change his life and we NEED HIM. Jacqes Reeves is a flippin joke and Nate Jones is also. Henry, Newman & Jones would be awesome!!!
Posted by Dan M. @ 2:29 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
If he can clean up his act..........
That's what it depends on.
Some guys know they screwed up, and just need an opportunity to get their act straightened away.
I'm not against giving a guy, especially a young guy, an opportunity to get himself sorted out.
WE DO NEED A TRUE SHUT DOWN CORNER.
If we could get him, we wouldn't need to blow a 2d first round pick in the draft.
We can and should make our secondary the best in the league.
We've got some decent players back there.
Henry can do better, and T.Newman is a playmaker just waiting to emerge.
Roy Williams needs to be told "EITHER YOU PRACTICE EVERY DAY your cover skills in the off-year, ......... or you're gone ............. GONE!" Roy should be practicing EVERY DAY in the off season cover against the young receivers, Miles Austin, Isiah Stanbach and Tony Curtis.
EVERY FRICKEN DAY!
I would definitely talk to Pac-Man.

Not sure which Dan Reeves you are referring to, possibly Dan Reeves who owned the Rams in the 60's, but I doubt it, he's dead (so I guess he can't cover), or, Dan Reeves the former Cowboy who last coached the Falcons (I'm reasonably sure he is not under contract in Dallas and that he can't cover either).

All,
I agree that Reeves and Jones are not starting corners. They are 7th round picks, so I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to be either.
As for Pacman.. WHY? .. Marcus Trufant, Asante Samuel, Ashumoga (Raiders CB) are all UFAs and will not be franchised. Why would we take a punk like PacMan over one of those?
PacMan is proving he's still a punk by hanging out in bars at all hours of the morning even after gettting suspended.
Posted by jason @ 2:36 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
PacMan a Cowboy? yes, yes, yes!Sign him as soon as we can. He might be a bad boy but he's a great shut down corner and that will signigicantly strengthen our secondary and help Roy do what he does best! Please, please, please sign him!
Posted by dallas>d.c. @ 2:41 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
no way. too much bad press in the 90's regarding bad players; it's just now starting to disappear (probably due to wins). the last thing america's team needs is to take in another infamous player with baggage. i'm a diehard fan but this will just make the rest of the league laugh at us. and that's before it blows up in our face.
Posted by JL @ 2:42 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Would Jerry sign Pacman? Jerry would sign Lucifer if he thought he would help win a SB. Don't you think that Jerry would be able to help influence Goodell to reinstate Pacman? The league is a business and the best business the NFL can have is having the Cowboys on the front page and in the Super Bowl.
Personally, I don't think Pacman has changed, but so far, Jerry is 2-0 on his last two "trouble-makers", Tank and T.O.
Go Cowboys!
Posted by jason @ 2:43 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
I thought these were dallas fans? Pac Man jones would be a key addittion to this team and it would be a tragedy not to sign him. As far as reeves and henry, get there names right first! Jacques Reeves and Anthony Henry, thank you! As far as injury's, you would be injured too if you went through what they did during the off season workouts and the phyicality of playing the entire year including practice. Although, Reeves didn't quite get it done and Henry was hurt hence picking up PacMan jones.

If no pacman, what about marcus trufant? He'll be on the free agency list. Also, we are in need of another reciever who corners actually fear. We only have one. Glenn is hurt and Crayton can't come up with the ball on big plays! Hurd,Austin, and Steinback are still relatively on the fence. I'm not for sure they will ever be T.O or Glenn in his prime.
Posted by Shaun Rhodes @ 2:49 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
I think this could be a good fit for the defense of the D Boys, we could use some more speed in the secondary, plus , I don't mind a little trash talking on the field, we need some aggresiveness somewhere!

Posted by Bill In DC @ 2:52 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
JL,
Trouble is that Tank and TO are not criminals like Pacman is. He is a disaster waiting to happen, Dallas would be idiotic to sign him. Let 'The Danny' in DC sign him. Now that Gibbs isn't there to control him he'll return to his 'Fantasy Football' ways of signing every over the hill name he can.
And Redskins_Rule I watched your pathetic team get blown out by 21 (35-14) two Sunday's ago. I enjoyed it, I hope you did as well.

I was all for the TO signing. I was all for the Tank Johnson signing. Why? Because the nature of their "problems" were not that serious. Tank has been a gun collector for years, and it was a bad decision to go against a court mandate. He is also a high character guy who had great people like Coach Smith bending over backward to help him. TO well I really truly believe that a lot of his issues have to do with whether or not he feels appreciated. The ealges issues I believe were more McNab's fault than To's anyway (and in dallas I did not think it would be an issue).
But PACMAN is different. This kid has never accepted responsibility for a single thing he has done. He was directly involved in getting a man killed, and has had several other serious run ins with the law. He has never shown any remorse for his actions, ANY!! THE ONLY THING HE WAS SORRY FOR WAS NOT GETTING TO PLAY FOOTBALL. This is not a good person. This is not a Team player. This is not a Dallas Cowboy. Have we taken chances on troubled players before? Yup, and sometimes it worked out but only when the character of the person we are talking about is strong and when the person has a desire to change, and lets face it... Pacman is found seriously lacking in both.
Posted by jason @ 3:25 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
I didn't hear anything bad regarding Tank or T.O! During our Super Bowl years, I remember having a few bad boys. What about Marcus Trufant and the Chad Johnson idea wasn't bad either. Although him and T.O might not work, what do you'll think?

Jerry won't touch'em. It's one thing to have a love affair for guns but to make it "rain" at every strip joint is another. There are too many good CB's on the market and coming up in the draft (I do believe we have 2 number 1's).
I've trolled this board for a couple of seasons and I've noticed that fans from teams that haven't won super bowls are always writing there "weak ass" comments on here. Fans from the Niners or Steelers and organizations like that are rarely heard from. Just losing organizations. I'm proud to be a lifelong fan of this team. It feels good to pop in DVD's of old skool Super Bowl wins in times like these. The only thing they can pop in is highlights in B+W with leather helmets or none at all. There are some organizations you know will win and some you just know won't.

Joe Gibbs is bringing the redskins back to the promise land.... OH dang i forgot, he quit..again

This is great!!! You idiots are the only team that would probably take him as well! Maybe you could bring back part of the dream team of your fat pig Nate Newton, Michael "crack pipe" Irvin and oh yeah, you'll need someone to stick up and cry for them, so let's say, TO. Hell, head coach and red head opey (your boy Garrett) could probably handle this crowd. "Well golly dad, they didn't do much wrong. We'll just get uncle Marion (Jerry) Jones to give them a shot of botox. C'mon daddy!" This is great you idiots. Pacman invades the Cowgirls! HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Hey "just my take"...I can pop in 6 DVD's of Super Bowl titles while you and your beloved Cow-criminals can only pop in 5...I guess you do have more DVDs available from Court TV to watch your stars perform at their best!!!...

While everyone else is working on their game during the off season,PacMan is working on his.6 months until preseason and I bet he still has a couple more arrests left in him before he is gone for 5-10.

I wish my teams blog was as kewl as this one but we arent as we are huge tools. and we are too busy trying to find a head coach who must also be a huge tool. Hey its Washington, people know we suck. Anyway wildcard weekend was fun although the skins got raped like a new fish in a prison by seattle. we will be condemned to loserville without coach gibbs. BILL IN DC reminded us of all the good corners that will be available through free agency.
So let's not go rushing any barricades signing Pac-man.
But one of those corners Bill mentioned NEEDS to be signed.
We HAVE TO GET BETTER through free agency.
We can't stand still, relying on the idea that the other teams in the NFC aren't going to be getting any better.
Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia is agitating for the Birds to sign Moss in the off year.
EVERYBODY is going to be trying to get better, and we had better do likewise!

Hell, why not. Jerry is used to selling his soul to the devil. That being said, this team does need another corner. If they can't sign Asanti Samuel from New England then yes 'Pacman' may be an option.
Posted by Ed Pastoriza @ 4:54 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Please sign him Jerry. We know you can deal with these type of superstars. He's better then J. Reeves.
Posted by Tim Burns @ 4:55 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
No, no, no...Never happen. He's a true bad apple. Remember the name Tommy Urbanski? He is the paralyzed strip club bouncer that Pacman's bodyguard shot in Vegas !!! That POS was arrested six times after being drafted by the Titans and had a dozen more brushes with the law. AND...
He just slappedaho in a strip club AGAIN a few nights ago. No. I don't care how bad we need a corner. No. Luckily I noticed that all but 5 or 6 of you agree with me on this. He can rot, talented or not.

I learned a lot today from DMN staffers. I wasn't sworn to secrecy or anything, so here you go:
1)The software here only scans for bad language.
"The (profanity)filter has been far from perfect, and that is a problem we will continue to address. We delete inappropriate comments as much as possible, but even that can be an overwhelming chore." Then, straight from Timmy, "We have a profanity filter, but the comments otherwise are not edited".
2)There are no moderators and they don't plan on having any. "Originally, we assigned staffers to approve the comments before they would appear on the blogs. As you can imagine, that was simply too much."
And while they admitted that a lot of the content is objectionable, they told me that there are "are plenty of comments that are clean and worth reading"...Hmmm...Point me in that direction. It looks like we either have to put with these derelicts or move on to another site. I haven't decided yet.

I have been a Cowboy fan since middle school in the mid-seventies. No real Cowboy fan would want "Pac-Man" on their team. There are worse things than losing footabll games, such as losing integrity and respect. T.O. and Tank are one thing, a pathalogical criminal is another.

All these other fans hate us because they are scared. They know who will dominate the NFC east for the next several years. Thats why they relish in our losses they hear footsteps. And yes, all the skins care about or live for is trying to beat dallas, that is thier biggest game of thier sorry season. Trust me I live in the DC area its pathetic. They call it "dallas week" like us cowboy fans even give $hit about the skins that much! It is funny to hear them cry and whine when they are losing and they all turn into armchair QB's, then they win 3 or 4 games in a row(not 7 like the boys) and they think they are going to the super bowl, but thats the fickle redskin fan community, pathetic!!!

Ok now I am convinced Steeler Power is Tim Colinshaw.....if you read my post yesterday now i know Steeler Power, Redskins_Rule and RAMS FAN is all the same person. It's sad that you have to take on so many different identities just to make yourself feel better about bashing the Cowboys. Hell yeah bring him in. Give him a chance with a clause in the contract that prevents him from getting in trouble or he loses money. The Cowboys have too many choir boys on this team anyway. Too many soft players on defense. This would help the Cowboys get that 90's swagger back for sure.
Posted by JP @ 9:24 PM Fri, Jan 18, 2008
Everybody says he is good, but when was the last time he has played...or even worked out???? He has just shown he can not and will not stay out of trouble. He had the agreement with the commissioner he would not go back to the club, but.....but he was back!!!!

Three teams I hate: Eagles, Skins and Giants.
One I detest: 49ers
Get the hell out of our blog "49'ers forever".
Your loser team will not get off the ground in this decade. No QB you idiot!
And regarding Pacman, well as "Red" pointed out, this D needs some nastiness to it, and this guy might just be the answer. Give him a contract full of clauses and bring him in. He might just be our Charles Haley of this decade! Remember how the Cowboys wetre missing one piece to the puzzle in 1991 and brought in Haley and he proved to be the answer?
Go Cowboys forever!!!!!!!!!

Pacman is a tough player. He is talented. He does have "off field" problems, and likely will continue to have them. But... and despite that... if Dallas can get the guy... I say sign him up. He would make a great addition to a weak part of the defense.

You should validate the Name matches the e-mail address.
This could replace the Crapcha code and would eliminate all of the Fake RAMS FAN posts.

If we could get him, it would be cheap. He is not a free agent right now, the titans still hold his rights. getting him would give us a great punt returner and a good cover corner opposite Newman which would give our first round corner this coming draft, a year to learn. Load the contract up with incentives and sign him up.
Posted by Ty @ 9:33 AM Sat, Jan 19, 2008
Bring on PAC-MAN, You got nothing to lose. The guy messes up you cut him, If it works out you got yourself a bad ass corner. We're not electing him Commander in Chief, we're looking for that 6th ring!
Posted by jondeere @ 10:34 AM Sat, Jan 19, 2008
Hey 49ers forever you can have your catch I'll take the 5-2 margin in playoff victories anyday cowboys forever
Posted by necro @ 11:02 AM Sat, Jan 19, 2008
Look somebody is going to sign this guy so it may as well be us if he comes cheap and his contract is laced with performance incentives and based on number of plays, and has an off field situation loop hole built in that would protect Dallas from suspensions etc...If we don't sign him we will probably end up having to play against him and there is no doubting his on field talent. So still we have to go after a corner upgrade even if we sign Pac which is not a bad thing considering how Pro Football has evolved into a pass happy league with 4 and 5 wide receiver sets almost constantly. Who knows he may come cheap enough for a couple of years which could be just enough time for us to win a Super Bowl.

When asked if he would welcome Ricky Williams back Porter said, ''Yeah I would. We're 0-9, I'd welcome bin Laden if he could run the ball like Ricky did".
Hey, Pacman isn't nearly as bad as Osama so I say sign him!
Posted by jason @ 12:31 PM Sat, Jan 19, 2008
Well, if vick wants to be a cowboy as well, bring him on board. I really don't care if half our team is made up of ex-cons, strip joint addicts, and not to forget gun experts. All I want is for my cowboys to win a super bowl. I thought this was our year but guess not. Any chance that Darren Woodson might suit up again and get off of Roy Williams! I hope he takes all of these negative comments and explodes for one of his finest years next season.

We need some definite help in the secondary! I haven't heard anyone mention marcus trufant, isn't he as good as PacMan without the off field stuff?
Posted by nyc2tx @ 2:58 PM Sat, Jan 19, 2008
Listen Pac-man is a shut down CB and to not put him down is a mistake. We need a little fire on the field something we didnt have in the last 4 games. Tired of seeing Crayton doing punt returns.
