Ravens statement on Garrett

11:11 AM Thu, Jan 17, 2008 |
Albert Breer   E-mail   News tips

There's little question that the Ravens have emerged as a first-class organization since moving from Cleveland (something NFL record books deny ever happened). But they've got a bit of egg on their face now after being left at the altar by Jason Garrett.

Here's the team's official statement on the matter:

We did negotiate with Jason Garrett to become our head coach. In the end, he decided to stay in Dallas. We’re continuing our second round of interviews. We’re excited with the candidates and confident we will select the best head coach for the Ravens.

Eagles secondary coach John Harbaugh, the brother of former NFL quarterback and current Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh, is now considered the leader for what most in league circles regard as a plum job.

Any chance that Wade Phillips will issue a statement, like he did for Tony Sparano? Hmmm. I'm waiting. Didn't think so.

Whatever. Considering the lack of talent on the current roster, and the fact that their GM hasn't exactly set the world on fire up there lately, I certainly wouldn't call it such a "plum job" at all. The inmates are definitely running the asylum up there and it may get a lot worse before it gets better in Ravens land.

As a Raven fan i'm so happy Garrett decided to stay in Dallas. Watching the Cowgirls play for the last month was enough to tell me he isn't ready for the big stage "The AFC". How would you like to be Wade Phillips right now? Did Jones promise Garrett the head job down the road? What about the Rooney rule? Go Giants!!

Here is one of the B'more blogs :

Garrett used the the Ravens
The Ravens have to feel a little used by Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. The Ravens had good intentions in negotiating with Garrett, but apparently he came to Baltimore as leverage to get more money out of Dallas owner Jerry Jones. And, apparently, it worked.

You basically knew he wasn't going to take the job here once he left town for Atlanta. As I said before on this blog and in the newspaper, a more experienced coach would have done his homework in advance, and Garrett's meeting with the Ravens would have been a mere formality in his becoming the team's new head coach.

Garrett got his money, but he basically looks like a fool around the league. All he had to do was go to Jones in the first place, demand the increase and not fly around the country, putting on this dog-and-pony show. I hope he has good success in Dallas because owners around the league have short memories. They won't forget the charade he just pulled.

Garrett is young, and has been an assistant coach in the league for only three years. His lack of experience showed during this entire process.

The Ravens have an aging team and no quarterback. That is hardly a plum job. Norv Turner stepping in to coach San Diego this season was a plum job. Whoever inherits the Colts when/if Dungy leaves is getting a plum job. The Cowboys are a much better situation than the Nevermores. Good choice by Garrett to stay here.

Hey, maybe he just didn't want to coach a team that has a murdererous gangsta on the roster. If you cut RayLew, he just might cut back!

YAY!! I love Jason Garrett..I guess I have been under a rock cuz I didn't know he was interviewing. We are LUCKY to have him.

Plum job? For who? That offensive line has to be blown up, they have no QB, no WRs, and an overrated RB with an injury history. Remember the last "Budding Offensive Genius" who took that job? He got fired a few years later for being unable to generate any offense. Redball was very smart not to take that job.

Sorry Charlie-I guess you were watching the Cowboys because your pathetic team lost 11 games this year, inlcuding TEN-IN-A-ROW. And YOUR team came to the Cowboys and OFFERED the job to OUR guy.

The NFC won the head-to-head battle this year with the AFC.

Let's tally up:
Superbowl appearances: Dallas-8 Balt-1
Superbowl wins: Dallas-5 Ravens-1
2007 record: Dallas 13-4 Ravens 5-11
Pro Bowlers: Dallas-12 Ravens 2
All-Pros: Dallas-4 Ravens-1

Crawl back under your rock with the other G-girl bandwagon fans and SHUT-UP!

Breer, would you care to define "league circles?" If those same league circles came up with your pointless power index, who cares? My guess is you are talking about your east coast buddies who think that the Mississippi River is the west coast of the U.S.

Hey "cowgirl up yours" who wins the super bowl every year? Who do you think wins this year? AFC!!
When was the last time the cowgirls were in the super bowl?

Charlie, You know that you have to win at least two playoff games to get into the superbowl. When was the last time that the Cowboys even won one? I think it was the same year that the Baltimore Orioles won a playoff game, so maybe the comparisons should be with them and not the Ravens. Garrett, the boy wonder, really had that offense clicking the last month of the season. I think the Ravens offense was actually better in December. At least they beat a playoff team.

Posted by Jeff @ 1:26 PM Thu, Jan 17, 2008

I Can't Blame Him No qb At Either Place and will either of these teams ever get that part figured sometimes that qb never shows usally due to management and an owner not willing to commit the bucks to do so.

Posted by CowboyUpYours @ 2:35 PM Thu, Jan 17, 2008

Sorryass Charlie, the Cowboys were 3-1 against the AFC this year, 4-2 against playoff teams and 2-2 in December. The Ravens were 1-4 against playoff teams and 1-3 in December.

Until you gets your facts straight maybe you should pop another Viagra to make sure your momma and sister are happy.

Hey cowboy up yours you can quote all the stats you want but stats are meaningless unless your some FAT A%% on his sofa drinking lone star and playing fantasy football. How did the cowgirls do against the PATRIOTS???? How many playoff wins do the cowgirls have in the 2000's, how many Super Bowls have they been in over the last 10 years??? Talk your crap when they win a BIG game!!!
