Romo clearing mind in Mexico

1:05 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Paparazzi snapped a few pictures of Tony Romo vacationing in Mexico this weekend with the Simpson family, and they're all over the blogosphere now (deadspin, The Big Lead and other sites I can't link to because of profanity, etc.).

I'm not about to make a big deal out of how Romo chooses to spend his bye weekend. Jessica is clearly concerned about making sure her man is ready to play, as evidenced by the deep tissue massage she's giving his backside in one photo. Plus, Jason Witten made the trip to keep an eye on his road roomie.

For this here blog ... this is Timmy Tabloid.

If it were just Tony and Jessica, then I wouldn't complain. She isn't Britney Spears, that's for sure. It is her dad that bothers me. She has been through a few guys, and something tells me that Joe was behind those break ups to some extent.

Vacations are something that SB quarterbacks do AFTER the season is over, when they won the SB.

Funny, I don't remember Aikman, Favre, Elway, Montana, or even vixen-loving Brady going on vacation DURING the playoffs. The off week is to get ready for the divisional round, rest up, and use that extra time for film, etc.

Look, Cow fans, I love me some Romo just like you do, but I am seeing some bad habits that Parcells warned him about. Tony loves football, but he loves the ladies way too much, and unlike Brady, it interferes with his game.

If the Boys lose this divisional playoff game, the usual suspects starting with Jones/Phillips/James/Roy Williams will be blamed, but so will our "celebrity" quarterback.

Posted by Art @ 1:39 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

remember the movie the Natural, how that woman jinxed Roy Hobbs, this is not good.I don`t see other QB`s doing this,I guess Romorific is being Romolovey Dovey.

Posted by gpaq @ 1:42 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

let's not go crazy. the reason we never heard of aikman, favre etc. going on vacations was because they weren't going with a celebrity.

some of those sites had some great lines about those pics. one said all these pics prove is that the cowboys are so good they can score at will!

Posted by Tim Burns @ 1:44 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

This is curious. Surely he wouldn't just leave the country for a couple of days without Wade's, (and more importantly, Jerry's), "okey-dokey", would he? And to carry it one step further, if it doesn't bother the owner of the world's most valuable sports franchise, why in the F-BOMB should it bother you? Blog me when you see him doing beer bongs or taking body shots off of her beautiful tummy. As long as he's simply relaxing in Mexico, stop bothering me.

Posted by TheLurker @ 1:48 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Sure, what Romo does on "his time" is his business, but he has to understand the ramifications. Here's a guy who goes from being an undrafted free agent to becoming the face of one of the most premiere sport franchises and the minute he becomes a household name he's dating a former A-list celebrity. So, when Tony has a bad game, guess what? ESPN and the rest of the "mediots" are going to point to incidents like this and say, "He's gone Hollywood, and he's not concentrating on his kraft." Is it fair? No. But, that's how the game is played. One minute the media is building you up, and the next minute they are tearing you down. Romo has to be smart with his personal life. I'm not going to knock the guy for enjoying himself, but as long as he's dating a female that is considered on some level a celebrity, Romo needs to play it smart.

(I tell you one thing, by the end of the week, these pictures are going to be all over the sports networks. Therefore, Romo matter have one heck of a game because if he doesn't, 67 mil or not, he's going to be skinned alive.)

Posted by TheLurker @ 1:50 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

My bad, I meant to say, " . . .Therefore, Romo BETTER have one heck of a game because if he doesn't, 67 mil or not, he's going to be skinned alive.)

Posted by ap @ 1:52 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

It's nice to see that Romo is spending quality time with his tight end and his "wide receiver". I guess that makes Jess's dad her agent then?

Posted by A-cast @ 1:53 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

It's marketing for Jessica and Romo. He is also reaching out to the spanish customers. Jerry is all over this. Keep in mind, this is America's team and it just comes with the territory but Romo needs to learn how to gap this into Superbowl wins and really benefit in all ways

Posted by Matt @ 1:53 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Tony Romo is the QB for the DALLAS COWBOYS...that man should be in the film room watching every second of every game of every team in the playoffs until he can recite every play made by every team by heart. I know thats what I would be doing if I had the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. He and Jason can't wait a month or two to take a vacation? Ridiculous.

Posted by Art @ 2:05 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Tom Landry,Jimmy Johnson, nor Bill would allow this to happen.bye week or no bye week, this is playoff football,no time for the ladies.

Posted by A-cast @ 2:11 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

I don't want to believe it is all Jess and no work. I'm sure he's sending Witten on some down and outs on the sand by the beach. But seriously,
I'm sure he's there to avoid the local circus and get his "head" straight. A little Mexican meditation can go a long ways.

Posted by Mike @ 2:14 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Man Romo sucks so bad, why can't he put a bed in the film room and never leave. I mean sure wade gave the TEAM 3 days but this is Romo he's not allowed to have a life. I mean look at Brady, you don't see him vacationing do you? Yea, sure he may have kids and leave his wife when they are pregnant and must take care of them but still this is Romo. Come on Jerry handcuff him to the film room. Oh yea and thats not Witten I mean there are no complaints of him being on vacation just Romo.

The people on this board need to seriously get out more often lol.

Posted by Art @ 2:16 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

ok Romo, have it your way, just don`t eat any Jalepenos,

Posted by Sam in So Cal @ 2:18 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Wow! Did you see the whale in the 2nd picture?

Posted by JT @ 2:25 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Man, I truly hope the 'Boys make it to the "Dance" this year. After all, despite the current success of this team, it's no guarantee this team will be as close to winning the championship as they are right now. If the 'Boys fall short this year, everyone will say, "Wait until next year." But, didn't Chicago say that? And, the Eagles, Panthers, Bucs, Rams . . .? The bottom line, everyone -- players, coaches, management, and, of course, fans -- shouldn't take this "current opportunity" for granted. I wonder if Romo understands that?

Lets get the sixth ring, BABY!!!

Posted by Buddy @ 3:08 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Both our first round draft picks and Romo to San Diego, straight up for Phillip Rivers. Romo can be close to Hollywood, and we're rid of Simpromo.

I'm sick of people LAUGHING at us.

Posted by dh @ 3:44 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

The entire TEAM has the weekend off.. I bet you Favre is out hunting as I type this... WE dont know who our upcoming opponent is, so what do you expect Romo to do? Study 3 different teams all weekend? Trust me, the entire team is off and recharging their batteries this weekend... The boys worked their tails off this week and have EARNED the weekend off...

Posted by Vox Veritas @ 4:02 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

As if any NFL player needs any tips from bloggers. LOL @ all of you.

Posted by graham-canada @ 4:03 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Didn't I read somewhere that Tony Romo's favourite film is "The Natural"- that being the case- I am shocked that he would think about going away instead of working on timing with Terry Glenn looking at tape, and learning new plays.
It doesn't make me feel comfortable at all- that he is partying with Jessica, or her family when I had hoped he would be practicing.

Posted by Nick @ 4:39 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

wow again I wonder why this is even newsworthy? I'm sure lots of guys left town this weekend......but curiously no one cares......hmmm maybe that's because it has nothing to do with football!

Posted by Jeff is PDX @ 5:54 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

Wow, I can't believe that Tony has a life outside of football......I cant believe he is allowed to have a life outside of football.....the only reason he is on this earth is to win football games for Cowboy fans.

I bet Matt Moore isn't on vacation right now.

Posted by David @ 9:23 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

All you idiots who think other quaterbacks don't do this kind of stuff have a serious case of rectal cranial inversion. Tony has every right to vacation where he wants, you idiots need to get a life. Hey Buddy I think someone needs a slurpy when you are done ringing up those smokes, is this the same Phillip Rivers that LT can't stand and has more INT than TD's. Stick to the 7-11 work and try to leave the football trades to someone who has a brain.

Posted by Richard @ 9:49 PM Sat, Jan 05, 2008

So I guess the people on here complaining about Romo's vacation spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at their workplace? What a joke!

Posted by jack @ 12:11 AM Sun, Jan 06, 2008

I don't think it's his mind that he's clearing.

Posted by mark @ 7:53 AM Sun, Jan 06, 2008

go for it tony but if we ever meet i don't won't your autograph i just wanna smell them fingers gggggggggggeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr baby!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ML. @ 9:46 AM Sun, Jan 06, 2008

Romo is forgetting his reponsibility to maintain professionalism that goes with his status. Boys will be boys is so disgusting, always has been. But if he loses next week, bet the "atta-boy" snide remarks turn against him.
Grow up. That goes for the Simpson family too, get some class, coaches get some gumption and tell Romo to behave!
Wish the Cowboys luck next week anyway.

Posted by ghoover @ 4:31 PM Sun, Jan 06, 2008

As WP stated all preseason, Tony is totally dedicated to football and is always very prepared for his football responsibilities. This same type of talk came up when he played golf (while the other Cowboys were playing in a golf tourney!) and when he attended the music awards with Carrie Underwood. Further, when Jessica was shown on TV when we lost to Philly, the media/fans blamed his sub-par play on his diverted attention, even though Jessica had attended other games unnoticed where Romo and the Cowboys had played brilliantly. He's the Dallas QB,and two-time Probowler in his two years. He's GONNA be watched. The better he does what he wants and ignores the fans/media, the better off he and the Cowboys will be.

Posted by Alan @ 4:44 PM Sun, Jan 06, 2008

The film room?? What team should he be preparing for?? Didn't know that till today. Gez give the guy a break. And like someone else said, if he were going out with Janice Nobody, who'd give a s@#@....

Posted by larry giusti @ 11:16 PM Sun, Jan 06, 2008

Art, forget jalapenos. Don't drink the water. It'd be hell if he and Witten missed the game due to "Montezumas Revenge".

Posted by JET BLUE @ 12:00 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Timmy

Thanks for lowering sports journalistic standards.

Posted by Teddy @ 12:31 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Hold your fire until after the game. If Romo (and/or Witten) plays bad, then you can blame Romo for not preparing for the game. But they played Giants twice this year, so they should know each other pretty well.

Blichick said he spent most of (weekend) time preparing for Jacksonville, not other two possible teams. His offense coordinator refused to interview for head coaching job, instead concentrating on the game preparation. No wonder New England is doing so well. They are so dedicated. I do not like Blichick, but I admire his dedication. I do not know where Tom Brady spent last few days.

Dallas offense assistants were busying interviewing for jobs in the past few days. QB and other players were vacationing over sea. I do not know where Wade Phillips spent past few days, have fun too? It looks like they are already celebrating the fine season.

Yes, if Dallas loses to Giants, people will blame the lack of preparation for the game from the coaches and players.

But Giants do not have extra more time than Cowboys to prepare some new plays on offense and defense. Therefore, if they lose, taking time off should not be the major reason. Media and fans will blame the lack of preparation. You can count on it.

If Owens cannot play or if he is not effective, and if Glenn is not effective, then it will all depends on Eli Manning and Dallas defense. If Manning is hot, Dallas will lose. If Manning struggles under heavy Dallas defense pressure, and if Romo does not turn the ball too many times, then Dallas can still win the game even without major contribution from Owens and Glenn.

Eli Manning got his first win in playoff. Now, we will see if Romo can get his first win.

Posted by Printzapper @ 1:02 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

I believe just from my own experience in college anyway that a romantic interlude combined with all the hoopla of playoffs can screw with your focus.

We got no right to comment on Romo's personal life, just hope he ain't screwin' up.

Posted by L.J., Fla. @ 1:02 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

The Giants are going to be a well prepared team, come Sunday. But if the Cowboys are ready and play hard, they will prevail.

It takes a team effort, pure and simple. This includes the highly paid coaching staff. The latter, I worry about, for obvious reasons.

Posted by Jim @ 1:15 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

FYI Boys.

Tom Brady spent the same weekend in NY City with Giselle.

Do you think he is a slacker QB now too?

Come on Guys - Whether Romo has a bad game or a good game against the Giants it will have nothing to do with him going to Mexico during the Bye Weekend.

I don't have any problem with everyone being upset about the way he has played in the last couple of games and being worried about a repeat performance against the Giants but don't get ridiculous about the cause. It isnt Mexico and it isnt Jessica.

Posted by R.M. Seattle @ 1:22 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

If he would have gone to Vegas with strippers, i don't think anybody would have said anything? I think we are just jealous, because we are not with that blond getting a back rub and have to look at our fat significant other. Relax. Go Cowboys!

Posted by L @ 1:46 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

I agree w/tex. Time off, everyone deserves to enjoy it especially around the holidays. But come on Tony, this is the most important time of your season! Don't get bigheaded thinking you've got this job done just yet. Prioritize and if Jessica's really that great, she'll stick around till after football season.

I feel sorry for him if he's not on his game Sunday. Cowboy fans will eat him alive and Jessica won't hear the end of it.

Posted by D @ 2:41 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

So he went to Mexico. With Jessica and Jason. Seems to me he was following the orders of Phillips to "stay off your feet and relax". Did Phillips mean to be off his feet and glued to the TV watching football? Geez, y'all. You all say that if things don't go well next Sunday, it will be the fault of the vacation. Would it have been the fault of the LACK of vacation if he had been at home alone in his recliner all weekend?

Posted by Rachel @ 7:31 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Tony, Is ok to go have fun on your bye weekend. Just please beat those Giants. Cause the Giants can come back and haunt the Cowboys by winning. Sure we beat them twice this season but, that was just the season. This is the Playoffs. So, Romo comon' prove to us that you will play great and win this Sunday. Tell Jessica you will see her after you take us farther than the first round. Then you can see her whenever. Just get us to the Superbowl and we be happy!
Rachel Romo Fan!

Posted by Rick @ 1:33 AM Tue, Jan 08, 2008

Somebody seriously has to ask TR if he's seen Rocky 3. Celebrity unwinds rationale and training. Its true.

Posted by smills @ 3:54 PM Tue, Jan 08, 2008

For some odd reason Tony and Jessica can not have a life together without everyone in there face. Yes the cowboys have alot on there plate right now. But they have been playing there butts off to get where they are at now. SO why cant a man and his girl take a little trip? What is so wrong with that? I think that Coach is mad cause romo is not at his every becking call. FOr gosh sakes he is a man and men need things too. So everyone needs to back off them and let them be people! It is not Jessicas fault on Tony's performance. That is just some one tryin to put the blame on her cause they did lose that game and the BOYS wanted to point fingers at everyone else but themselves. EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Mr Rogers @ 4:25 PM Tue, Jan 08, 2008

We never heard where Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman spent their days off 5 days before a playoff game. That's not because they were not dating celebrities, it's because they probably stayed within a 60 mile radius of Texas Stadium. They won five Super Bowls, in case somebody forgot. Hey, Bi-Homo, just win ONE SuperBowl and you can do whatever the hell your ingrate ass wants to do.

Even if leaving the country and inviting the paparazzi and your tight end for the ride is not detrimental, IT CAN'T BE GOOD. Every bye, this idiot is making news with the paparazzi. Tom Brady leaves all that stupidity for the offseason.

Considering the Forrest Gump did not get a DivI scholarship, went undrafted by the NFL, held a clipboard for three years, and then got the greatest break anybody ever got 14 months ago, Forrest should be either on his knees thanking the heavens or studying in the film room, for every minute of the rest of his career.

People say that he worked his ass off and deserves to do what he wants. WHo says he works his ass off? Who says he works any harder than any player in the team, or any player in the league? When TO was suspended by Andy Reid two years ago, he didn't go to Can Cun with Nicole Sheridan, he went home to do sit ups.

There's absolutely nobody in a position like Bi-Homo's that has done the stupid things he's done. Let's get a QB here who is willing to work 300 of the 365 days of the year for a measly $13 mil per year.

Posted by eileen cotto @ 12:08 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008

He's going to go away with her knowing the way it's coming down with the media and Simpson - and he has not even proven himself - It's a big mistake - where are your priorities? She is using you via her father - to boost her career - not giving a second thought to your football career - which can be effectively destroyed by your distraction with her... Tony you should think about what you've worked your whole life for - and what do you want more - a used-up woman or football fame?

Posted by William @ 10:46 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008

I really question Romo's decision to take Witten with him. Along side the physique of Witten makes the QB look like a little boy who just lost his dog.

Posted by mark @ 6:32 AM Thu, Jan 10, 2008

easy up william your looking a little to long at witten you homo lets only talk about jess's body!

Posted by tunes @ 10:48 AM Mon, Jan 14, 2008

Long time Cowboy fan. No longer a Romo fan.

Posted by tunes @ 11:17 AM Mon, Jan 14, 2008

As for smills comment. When the job is done, or your willing to give back some of the 13 million. Then you can take your girl & her dad to Mexico. You wait till the end of the season for vacation. I said it in the beginning of the season & I'll say it now, "Romo scares me."

Posted by patsfanaz @ 10:41 AM Tue, Jan 15, 2008

Now Romo and his blond ditz can take off for Mexico all they want. When your "star" QB looks like an East L.A. punk and dates late nights running joke did you really expect to go to the "big dance"?
Be great to see two class QB's in Glendale this year..... Brett and Tom
