That's the rumor coming out of Pebble Beach. So says The Monterey (Calif.) Herald, which reports that the buzz is that Romo, Tom Brady and LaDainian Tomlinson could play in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Well, Romo, Brady and Tomlinson were all selected to the Pro Bowl, which is held the same weekend of the AT&T. Now players routinely skip the Pro Bowl but usually cite injury as the reason. Since players aren't contractually obligated to the Pro Bowl, the NFL is generally fine with that as long as they are not embarrassed. |

Talk about a "tougher sell". You realize that football can be and usually is a bit rougher on the body than golf, right? It's conceivable that a person may not be healthy enough to get chased by 300 pound linemen, but healthy enough to walk around a golf course and knock a little white ball into a little hole.

Tony has prioroties other than football. This should be clear to anyone who has been paying attention the last two seasons.

You know, I am so tired of hearing that Tom Brady can be given some slack for skipping events or going on a weekend vacation with his girlfriend because he has won three Super Bowls. Give me a break!!! If Tony Romo or Ladainian Tomlinson want to skip the Pro Bowl, who am I to say anything? What we need to do is get on with our lives and let these guys live theirs.
Posted by Brandon B @ 11:35 AM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Dozens of Pro Bowl fans will be upset with this.
Posted by Galloway's empty flask @ 11:36 AM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Pro Bowl = joke + opportunity to get hurt. With the Cowboys luck one of their "mighty" 12 will get seriously injured in the game...all though at this point I'm OK with Crayton filling in for T.O....and Biscuit Boy starting at Safety...and did Gurode make it?...maybe a good week of practice to work on his spread snaps making to the QB before the D-line gets to the QB...

The NFL pro bowl is the biggest waste of time in sports. If Romo, LT and Brady don't want to play a meaningless game in God awful uniforms who can blame them?
Posted by Billy from Kingwood @ 11:42 AM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Who cares. The stadium is 3/4 empty . The pro bowl gets extremely low TV ratings.
Posted by Clayton Holmes' Red Bicycle @ 11:44 AM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
I heard Jacque Reeve's just made the pro-bowl as a fill in for some CB that made it but wants to wash his car that weekend...

**yawn** wake me when there's something to talk about.
Brandon - Couldn't agree with you more, the 30 people who get stoked for the pro bowl will have to voice their complaint to the commissioner.
I hope they all skip.

I love the comment Clayton Holmes Red Bicycle! Classic!

Tony - see if Jerry can swing you a round at CPCC. That is a tough door to get through
Posted by RevDlux @ 12:02 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
I couldn't agree more. The Pro Bowl should be axed. I cannot believe it makes very much money and from what I have read most of the players do not really like playing in it. Axe it, and let the players of home after a long season.

At least we won't have to watch Switzer eating a hot dog on the sidelines. (Or hear about Aikman being on a plane back to Dallas by the 3rd quarter...) The Pro Bowl is a waste of time.
Posted by gpaq @ 12:33 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
i'm a little concerned about romo's attitude. jerry needs to sit him down & teach him that the dallas QB acts like a professional. after the jessica embarassment, the playoff loss & now he snubs the Pro Bowl.
Posted by tally @ 12:39 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
I agree the probowl game itself is about as interesting as watching grass grow, BUT,
It is an election that players strive for. You think they dont love to have "pro-bowl" mentioned ahead of their name?
If players choose not to participate for no good reason, the designation should be erased from their resume and added to the guys who replace them.
In the case of Romo, it tells me he has learned nothing from all the Mexico crap and the distraction that caused. It tells me he doesn't give a damn about public perception even after all that.
Romo was thrilled to be included with the group last year but now that he is mr. Celebrity QB and has his 67 million, he is all about Tony Romo so he can kick sand in the NFL's face and play golf.
I have been one of the biggest Romo supporters and you other bloggers can sluff off this latest example of our celebrity QB, but he continues to tell you he doesn't give a damn what you think.
I am very, very disappointed in a guy who I never thought would tell the public it does not matter to me at all what you think of me, and that is exactly what he is saying by Simpsongate and now the pro-bowl snub. He is kicking his fans, including you guys, in the ass, and you just keep bending over.
Posted by NY Cowboy Fan @ 1:08 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Im all for Romo not being in the public eye for a while - especially in a football sense...but golfing at a pro-am instead? Watch when this is the last probowl he makes in his career, then maybe he will appreciate the honor (small though it may be) of being selected for this game.
As it looks right now, this is the only ____ Bowl he will ever play in.

Tally,
Please. For the love of everything that is Holy in the world. Give it a rest.
..."the Tally Lama, himself...Twelfth son of the Lama...The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking."
Posted by QED @ 1:34 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
LOL. So much for 'leadership' coming from the team quarterback. Romo better hire a political consultant and a savvy publicist now that he's becoming one of the big boys in the game.
Posted by colt357_2000 @ 1:54 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Heck why not? Romo took a mexican vacation during the bye week of the PLAYOFFS.
Somebody remind Tony how fickle us Dallas fans are. NFL also stands for Not For Long.
I stole that, I think from Hank Stram I don't remember.
Posted by Trey @ 2:29 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Let me say for the record, I have defended Tony Romo on everything that has happened throughout his short career. I believe he is the future and correct choice of the Dallas Cowboys. With that said... fans voting him to the pro-bowl is an honor. It is the fans way of saying thank you to some degree. If he doesn't represent the fans, along with the Dallas Cowboys in the pro-bowl... then shame on him. To me, that is a slap in the face of someone who voted for him. It is like saying, "It may be important to you, but it's not to me". Well, if that is the case, then he will NEVER have my vote again. Cause if it doesn't matter to him, then why should I bother voting for him. I hope he doesn't start isolating the fans, that wouldn't be a wise choice.
Posted by NY Cowboy Fan @ 2:56 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Trey, I hear you there my man. Ive been hearing that his response to the whole beach vacation was a good one. But to me when a guy says, "I dont want to live a life that is perceived" and (paraphrasing), 'I could care less what people think about me'...it's telling me that he doesnt care about me, the fan, the guy that goes to a bar every weekend to watch the games cause i dont live in TX and dont get Directv, the guy that spent 10-15 minutes on that stupid NFL voting website JUST to vote for my 'boys...specifically my quarterback.
If this is the way he feels then fine, go golf, we'll see how many more of these games you get voted into.
Keep it up, we'll see how many fans stick with you...how many banners with your name will be hung up on the Ring of Honor...keep it up
Posted by Vox Veritas @ 3:47 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Hey Tally, I think you should go kick his a$$.
Posted by tally @ 4:01 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Tim Burns,
I will give it a rest when Tony starts acting like the Leader I thought he was.
As you can see by the other bloggers on this blog I am certainly not the ony one frustrated with our celebrity QB who keeps showing and telling us he doesnt give a damn about what cowboy fans think.
If he follows thru with his "threat" to play golf instead of represent the cowboys in the Pro-Bowl, as one blogger said, he will not make another because the fans he doesnt care about will not vote for him again, and neither will a lot of the players and media members.
Defend him all you want to but his bad judgement continues. Jerry needs to intervene and tell this guy he DOES BY DAMN have a responsibility to the fans, and to the organization, and that public opinion DOES count.

Tim Burns thinks he is a " celebrity blogger " LMAO.

Honestly, after seeing the way most "fans" of the Cowboys have treated the team over the last month, I don't blame Tony for not bowing and scraping to the media or fareweather fans.
I voted for Tony to go the pro bowl because he deserved it as he was the best NFC quarterback through the regular season. However, I won't necessarily tune in to watch it because it does seem anti-climatic and definitely not worth the chance of getting hurt.
I would also point out that HE hasn't made any "threats" to skip the pro bowl. All that article said was that the ATT director was trying to get some NFL stars, not that any had agreed.
I'm not saying that Tony doesn't have any maturing to do, but if I were him, I wouldn't have put up with the media/fan nonsense the week after the Philadelphia loss. It was ridiculous and insulting.
We may be the fans, but you can't own someone and Tony's never stuck me as someone who would conform to that. He needs to find a way to deal with the spotlight, his private life, and his goals in football. But it has to come on his own terms for it to work out for both him and the fans.
Posted by Lucy @ 4:34 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
And one more thing: Usually one's teammates won't defend a quarterback who they don't view as leader or respect.
The Cowboy players have unwaveringly and vocally supported and voiced their confidence in Tony: Witten, Owens, Gurode, etc.
So, obviously they view him as a leader and with respect. Unlike the fans, who only listen to the media, the players see each other every day on the field. If they had nothing good to say about Tony the would either say it or be silent, not defend him.
This team is not shy with its opinions, so I'm taking their word for it and not relying on everything I read on the internet or newspaper. Try it.

i would be very disappointed in tony romo if he doesnot show up for the pro bowl...it is an honor to be chosen to go and then to not show up because you want to play golf, well that it tacky..i think all of the fame has gone to his head and he really needs to start growing up..he needs to be able to talk the talk and walk the walk..i still think he is just too young to be making that much money
Posted by paulyboo @ 5:04 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Tally, your opinion does count to you.
Not me or Romo. Get over it.
I do NOT like what Bush is doing. Do you think he gives a flying darn?
Exactly.
All day everyday people oppose decisions of others. From a spouse to an in-law to a child, and you know what, we bust right through it daily and frankly don't care.
So just like you don't care that I think from your comments your ego is overblown and you let the media control you... Tony and Jerry don't care about your rants.
think about that.
I too am a fan and probably a bigger one than you, and I disagree with you. Now what? Will you stop positioning your small minded thinking as what the "fans" want? Hansen.
haha. No. Like Hansen you've got your bone and you apparently love to chew.

I read that Romo Hurt his Thumb early in the game. No wonder some of his passes were not on target.
Posted by roy @ 9:08 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Romo doesn't want to wait for the Snap again from Center Aundre Gurode so that is why he is not showing up. Also, he doesn't want to hurt his other thumb because of that.
Posted by Santiago De La Joya @ 9:52 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
WAY TO GO ROMO!!!, I love the way your sticking it to your cashcow, chump Jerry Jones. The man, sorry, that person paid you $67mil. to play for, and represent the Cowgirls in public (the pro-bowl, moron)and private venues. However, I guess with at least a gurantee of $30mil., you feel as though you can do as you damm will please, good for you. HOWEVER, If you decide upon playing golf rather than going to the pro-bowl, then take your money and run, if not, you will be ran out.
Posted by tally @ 10:11 PM Wed, Jan 16, 2008
Paulyboo,
what really hurts is you insult me in the same paragraphs that includes the names of Bush and Hansen, two of my least favorite people. You really know how to hurt a guy.
Romo is making a complete fool of himself and gay guys like you just dont care because he has the cutest dimples doesn't he.
Posted by Jay-------- @ 5:11 PM Mon, Feb 04, 2008
Romo is over rated. He realizes this and took himself out of the probowl. Good for him.
