By nature, NFL owners are competitive people. You don't become a katrillionaire without being one. But they might be going a little far now. This Bloomberg story details the race to have the best in-stadium video boards, a battle being waged by your own Jerry Jones and the Tisch and Mara families, who run the Giants. JerryWorld, as you all know, will have a high-def screen hanging over the middle of the field that will run from 20-yard line to 20-yard line. Meanwhile, the Outside Gotham palace that will house the Jets and Giants -- set to open a year later than the Cowboys' place, in 2010 -- will have 18,000 square feet of video screens, which is 2,000 less than Jerry's Arlington digs. ``It's very important for us to be sensitive to how sophisticated young people experience the distribution and delivery of media,'' said Giants co-owner Steve Tisch. ``Fans can't be tricked with smoke and mirrors. What we offer has to be legitimately cutting-edge. It has to have that `WOW!' factor.'' |

Oh, just wait till they figure out how to do an in-seat HD player (beer-proofed, of course) with a choose-your-own-audio feature that apes Nascar's scanners and gives you (selected and of course, delayed) coach audio (just 100 dollars extra, thank you very much).
Texas-sized video, Cowboy-ized at your seat. Welcome to Jerry's World. cha-ching.
And someone's still going to be in the tailgate area watching on a black and white 5" screen, enjoying every minute of it as much as the person who forked over a year's salary just for the right to their seat.
still, an HD screen that goes 60 yards is going to be pretty awesome. But how will the players ever get used to it above them instead of in the end zone when they want to watch themselves run into the end zone or look to see if anyone's gaining on them?

I couldn't resist, Bill in DC. I miss that b*st*rd every now and then.
Good point S L about not being able to check out the screen to see players behind them. I hear it's more common than we might think. Maybe now they'll run towards the sidelines and watch themselves run down the field.
Either way, This is JJ's dream and he won't be outdone by anyone. He might not be football savy but he know marketing and how to one up anyone.

I care about wins, not video screens. Let's focus on winning the battle on the field.

bballcap,
I couldn't agree more. Jerry the businessman and owner obviously is a visionary.
But he is a terrible GM and all the gadgets and bells and whistles won't mean a damn thing unless there is a winner inside the stadium.
Let's hope that Jerry outdoes the NY Giants on the field as well as off it.

True. I would definately prefer the money be spent on building the best team for now and the future. Jerry really likes the idea of owning the Dallas Cowboys (America's Team) and I'm sure he puts a lot of pressure on himself to keep the team in the spotlight.
I fear his downfall this draft will be that he drafts for marketing reasons to fill his new stadium (exp. What having Bush did to the Saints) vesus drafting for need.
