Shhh!! Don't tell Giants that T.O.'s gonna play

2:12 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Wade Phillips played a fun little game with the media today called Fibbing About T.O.'s High Ankle Sprain.

Phillips first said that T.O. didn't practice. He backpedaled a bit when informed that several players mentioned that T.O. did participate in the workout, although the Original 81 wasn't on the field during the time the media is allowed to watch.

Phillips said T.O. didn't run at all, emphasizing that it was a walkthrough. He stuck to his guns that T.O. would be a gametime decision.

"It was a limpthrough for him," Phillips cracked, "and a walkthrough for us."

Well, a few offensive players said the Original 81 actually looked pretty good while running routes this morning.

No matter what Phillips says the rest of the week, expect T.O. to be ready to go Sunday afternoon against the Giants. Just don't let anybody in New York know that.

It's pretty clear to me that TO would prefer to keep his progress quiet. What else would account for the radio silence that has transpired regarding his injury since he went down? We get constant updates on his quotes and copyright requests, along with travel plans of Tony and Co. but we dont get jack when it comes to his progress.

It is a long shot but I am sure he is thinking that the Giants will somehow expect less out of him and thus play him a little differently than if they know step by step how he feels, his "percentage" of health, etc.

That's why he didnt show up to the media portion of practice, that's why we havent heard anything out of the man for 2 weeks.

I dont have a problem with this at all, it's a little strange how Wade didnt instruct the players not to say anything about TO in practice. Is that an indictment of his control over the team and the message they want to get across or simply an indication of how seriously he takes this whole silence thing?

Hi I am Tim "Bull$hip" McMahon, I lie more than Michael Irvin and Bill Clinton put together. I will sell you something you already own if you will let me, Tim spells his 1st name BS

TO who?...

Posted by Jay @ 2:32 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

I remember a comment from Sean Payton last year. He said that they had advantage pounding the ball with a rested New Orleans team and tired Philadelphia team.
Cowboys need to pound the ball early and often to dictate the pace of the game. They do not have to look for big play early, just wear down the NY defenece.

Posted by Cowgirl @ 2:42 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Cowboys need to come out and play with No hurdle Offense..This is the only way to show the World how seriously they want to win the game....

Posted by Dr_WHO @ 2:42 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

TO played against Detroit and was The Invisible WR

Posted by r @ 2:50 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

yeah..TO was invisible because of the double and triple teams Detroit put on him....Romo went to his drinking buddy Witten who had a monster day

Posted by thepainster @ 2:54 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

TO will be there. And he will be ready to play.

Terry Glenn will start as well.

Now if we can get Wade to start Marion the Barbarian over Julious Jones a lot of fans will be very happy and the Gnats will be trying to figure out whether to stop the run or the pass.

Pick your poison G-men.....

Posted by Len @ 2:59 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Way to go Tim. You just did.

Posted by Bill In DC @ 3:08 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Okay, just make them use the Captcha code and they'll never find out!

Posted by craigw @ 3:09 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

yep, looks like the players didn't get the memo. Lawl!

Oh well, a healthy T.O. is enough of an advantage.

Posted by Bill In DC @ 3:12 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Anyone know if Garrett interviewed with Baltimore or not. I know he interviewed with Atlanta (a job I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole), but I didn't see where he interviewed with Baltimore. Anyone know?

Posted by RAMS FAN @ 3:14 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

TO THIS, AND TO THAT. LISTEN UP COW-VOMITS, THE RAMS WERE THE GREATEST SHOW ON TURF. NO TEAM HAS EVER HAD AN OFFENCE LIKE THEY HAD. DALLAS WILL NEVER HAVE HALF THE OFFENSE THE RAMS HAD. "THE GREATEST SHOW ON TURF" IS WAY MORE IMPRESSIVE THAN THE STUPID, REDUNDANT, "AMERICA'S TEAM". THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAST 25 YEARS, WITHOUT A DOUBT!

HAIL THE RAMS, AND HAIL ME!

Posted by Tally @ 3:15 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

thepainster,

It will remain one of the great mysteries of this cowboys season why we have come a full 16-games and are now in the playoffs and Julius Jones is still the starting halfback.

Wade just will not make the change.
We are stuck with him for hopefully 3 more games
but after that, bye bye Julius. It is amazing that I see so many cowboy fans ask "what is wrong with our running game?". Good Lord, isn't it obvious?

If T.O. and Glenn are there and effective, the boys can win even with Julius starting.

Posted by Teddy @ 3:17 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

That is psychological warfare. Giants have to prepare the game in two different ways, with or without TO. With TO, more zone coverage, without TO more man coverage. It is good to confuse Giants this way.

But please do not spend too much time to think about psychological advantage. The real game planning is more important.

Posted by incognito @ 3:20 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

The key to Dallas winning simple. Jason Witten. If he has at least 10 receptions, Dallas will breeze through this game.

Posted by chris @ 3:21 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Bill,
It was my understanding garrett did fly out to Baltimore as well to interview

Posted by The REAL Tom Landry @ 3:28 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Anyone know who the Rams are playing in the playoffs?

Ramsfan - here's some news for you (paraphrasing the famous Rick Pitino quote):

1. Kurt Warner isn't coming through that door. And if he does, he'll be 30% of his former self.
2. Marshall Faulk isn't coming through that door. And if he does, it's as a broadcaster.
3. Isaac Bruce and Tory Holt will probably come through the door, but they'll slide to the ground before anybody can contact them because they are wussbags who can't take a hit.
4. Marc Bulger probably can't make it through the door. That guy has more injuries than Evel Kineval.

Your team is so bad they had to move away from LA due to lack of fan support, into that football hotbed, St. Louis.

Moron.

Posted by RAMS FAN @ 3:30 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

DEAR MORON, WHAT WAS YOUR POINT ON THE WORTHLESS POST?

RAMS FAN

Posted by Matt H @ 3:32 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

I will be interested to see what the Giants decide to "take away" when they are on defense. Given how badly T.O. torched them this year, it would surprise to see them single him up, even if they think he's not 100%. As a couple of you hinted at, that could really open things up for Witten to abuse NY (and when Witten gets to do what he wants, more often than not it leads to the victor's chair).

Three things, however, are key here-

1) T.O.'s effectiveness: Nothing (and I mean nothing) happens without this guy dictating defensive game plans out there. For the guy who complained about T.O.'s "invisibility" versus Detroit, I give you "15 rec, 138 yds, game-winning TD".

2) Terry Glenn's effectiveness: This is especially key if T.O. is less than perfectly healthy. If this guy can draw defensive attention, it will open things up.

3) Tony Romo's effectiveness: What's the story with the thumb? Why has Romo had trouble (well, trouble for him) the past few weeks? Why is his accuracy down? If he's not clicking, the Cowboys aren't clicking.

And if that happens, our offense looks like Tampa Bay's. And we all know how that turned out.

Posted by 35-7 @ 3:36 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Rams Fan -

You've intrigued me...do you make similar posts on other NFL sites? I just don't get it...you're consistently here...it just doesn't make sense and it's really quite creepy. Think about it - seriously. Why do you bother? Are you that angry of a person?

Posted by sk @ 3:38 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

If the cowboys can start off with three or four first-downs, it will bring all the confidence in the world for Romo and the offense. Key is the first few series. Hopefully the O-line can protect Romo without giving any sacks.

Posted by Bill In DC @ 4:16 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

35-7

Personally I think Rams Fan is an alternate persona of another poster, just having fun trying to stir things up.

If he's for real I feel sorry for him and you're right, it would be a little creepy.

Posted by Rob Miles @ 4:24 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Cowgirl: considering they're playing the Giants, I'd say the Cowboys will already be playing a "no hurdle offense". Heh heh... get it? You wrote "hurdle" instead of "huddle", and the Giants don't present much of a hurdle? See what I did there?

Sheesh . Is this thing on?

Posted by Ronnie @ 5:22 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

I agree with everyone in that we need T.O., Romo, and Witten to kick "you know what." But I am really siked about our defense and how they are going to perform. I think everyone is focused on the offense, and I do believe that the team's ability to win rests on the offense's hands, but if the defense can step up and not allow more than 20 points, then this should be a breeze (if the offense is ticking). But if the defense can smother "the open mouthed Breather, ELI", then it will be a blowout. The Gnats long passing game doesn't scare me, but those short dumps can take the same effect as a good running game. Take that away and victory is simple.

Hello, boys'maniacs.I thought I would jump into this blog thing. I've been a Boys' fan-atic since the 68'ice bowl, when I was 9. I've been through the gamut of emotions with the cowboys. People were saying the same things as now, when they were going to play the unstoppable Buffalo Bills in 92'.I had the same feeling then as now. 52 to 17! So don't worry. In 2002 the "Boys" drafted my sister's boy as guard/center.I'm his uncle. I call him "Dre". You know him as Andre Gurode.

Posted by RAMS FAN @ 5:51 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

FIRST OF ALL, I AM NO ONE BUT ME. I AIN'T NOBODY ELSE. SO I LIKE TO BACK UP MY TEAM, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? UNFORTUNATELY, I LIVE IN THE HOMICIDE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, DALLAS. I DONT WANT TO BE NOBODY ELSE. I WILL DEFEND MY RAMS TILL THE DAY YOU DIE.! NOW, I NOTICED NO COMMENTS REGARDING "THE GREATEST SHOW ON TURF"! YOU KNW WHAT THAT MEANS?

SCOREBOARD THE RAMS, AND SCOREBOARD ME!

HAIL THE RAMS, AND HAIL ME!

Posted by Duh! @ 5:52 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

The giants are preparing to play against T.O. anyway, so I'm sure this post isn't going hurt anything. But this is the perfect example as to why they only allow the media to watch the 1st 30 minutes of practice. A few more post like this one and I think that they should totally ban the media from watching any of it.

the REAL Tom Landry, Is there a heaven?

Posted by Stefan @ 6:23 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Rams Fan - this comment section is about TO. People like you are similar to kids who school who just say things to get a reaction. I am so sorry that there isnt a blog on this site called "Rams Former Glory". Yes the Rams were great back then, but that was back then. Please grow up!

Cowboys will win 34 - 17.

Posted by Peter Gibbons @ 6:48 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Again, Rams Fan - seriously Dude, you need to get laid soon.

Posted by mcindallas @ 7:25 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Wade's a genius! I bet they gave T.O a robotic leg and he's 100% better for sunday.

on second thought....maybe he's doing just fine and they don't want the Gi-aints knowing that. I think T.O is a go and Red has something up his sleeve. just a hunch

Go Cowboys!!!

Lambs Fan,

What the hell does "scoreboard the lambs and scoreboard me" mean exactly? Does not even make any sense...

If you hate living in Dallas so much why don't you move? Is your government subsistance check not enough to get you off your couch? Perhaps your mommy won't give you any money to move?

BTW, the FBI says that Dallas's violent crime rate (12.06 per thousand) is lower than St Louis (24.81 per thousand).

Hail ON you lambs fan...

Posted by DLEE @ 7:46 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

RAMS FAN,
19 division titles, 8 conference titles, 5 Super Bowls , most playoff wins, 10 hall of fame inductees and they are still playing. So you can take your Greatest Show of Turds and I will take the most storied franchise in NFL history.

SCOREBOARD COWBOYS AND SCOREBOARD COWBOYS!

Posted by Not So Crazy Ray @ 8:09 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

Please, Cowboys fans, don't reply to our "special needs" guest here, Rams Fan. It only makes it worse.

As for Phillips' comments about TO, if he really is toying with the media, he totally sucked CNN/SI in. Reading their story, you really would think TO was as gimpy as an arthritic 80-year old out there today.

Posted by BigDBalls @ 9:31 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

RAMS FAN IS A SPECIAL NEEDS CASE DUE TO THE FACT THAT HIS MOM WAS HIV POSITIVE WHEN HE WAS BORN AND HIS DAD WAS AUTISTIC WITH HERPES. JUST LET HIM RANT WITH CAPITAL LETTERS. IT'S AMUSING.

Posted by sdrick @ 10:09 PM Mon, Jan 07, 2008

The TO ankle injury stuff is nonsense. He was walking around with a big smile on his face and without a limp 30 minutes after the "injury." Anybody who has ever had a sprained ankle knows that if you can walk without a limp shortly after suffering the injury you're fine. I'm more concerned with Terry Glenn's knee.

Ram Fan (yes, all 1 of you).

My point was that the Rams, this year suck. Hard. And, my secondary point was that as a franchise, the Rams are mediocore, at best.

Two more points.

1. I was calling you a moron, not signing off with the name Moron. My name is The REAL Tom Landry. May your God poop in your fedora.

2. I will now comment on the "Greatest Show On Turf". Please sit back, hands off the keyboard, and be wide-eyed and ready to receive my transmission.

[START TRANSMISSION]
Greatest. Show. On. Turf. STOP
February. 3. 2002. STOP
Patriots. 20. Rams. 17. STOP
Nice. Choke. Job. STOP
[END TRANSMISSION]

I can't wait to see what wildly intelligent and witty comment you come up with next. It's actually fun denigrating you.

Seriously, your "Greatest Show On Turf" lost one Super Bowl to a Pats team that ACTUALLY STARTED DREW BLEDSOE AT THE OUTSET OF THE SEASON.

And your "Greatest Show On Turf" almost lost their other Super Bowl if Kevin Dyson were 4 inches taller.

You asked in your last post to "Scoreboard the Rams, and Scoreboard you". I think everyone on this blog would love to hit you with a scoreboard, except for the fine waste of a Jumbotron.

Until then, I guess you'll have to remain....

Moron.

Regards,

The REAL Tom Landry

Larry -

Yes. There is a heaven. If I look down, I can see directly into Texas Stadium in Irving. Everyone wears fedoras, vintage white Roger Staubach or Tony Dorsett jerseys (never the blue), and hates the Eagles, Giants, Packers, and Redskins.

And, I should mention this too - there is a hell. It's called "St. Louis". It used to be located in Los Angeles, but it was moved by Georgia Frontiere to Missouri in 1995.

Warmest regards, and go Big D!
