That was Wade Phillips' take on the Cowboys' loss to the Giants. The Cowboys had a signicant advantage in total yardage (336-230). Same for first downs (23-16). And Dallas dominated the time of possession battle, controlling the ball for 36:30. But the only numbers that meant anything were on the scoreboard: Giants 21, Cowboys 17. "After looking at the tape, I certainly feel like the best team lost the game," Phillips said, a statement sure to make Big Blue bulletin boards next season. "I feel like we outplayed them, but we lost." Phillips said he'd accept the blame. But he made sure to mention that the Cowboys exceeded expectations and advanced into the divisional round for the first time since 1996. He thought the Cowboys would still be playing, but the Giants made the plays that mattered Sunday. "I just thought that we had a better team than they had," Phillips said. "We'd proven it twice, and I thought we proved it again." Yep, the Cowboys sure showed those Giants. |

What is he going to say - that the players crapped the bed? He's the boss and he has to take the heat and make chicken salad out of . . . you know. Not great, but it's what he has to do.

The more he talks, the more I believe that he is the Forrest Gump of coaches. The dumb guy just, with a little luck and determination, overcame the sorry hand that life dealt him. Come on, Jerry, get us a real coach.

Thank Crayton for this loss. At the end of the game the defense did what it was suppose to, as did Romo. If Crayton hadn't quit on the 3rd down when when Romo threw to the post Crayton would have had it for the touchdown. Crayton owns this loss.

I've never seen a coach so proud of a reg season. Wade, you changed the locker room persona this year which seemed like a good thing but you still failed when it counted most.
Posted by Hillary Owens @ 2:09 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Wade Phillips is a functional moron. If he believes that, he didn't watch the second half film (and the last 46 seconds of the first half). He is in denial just like all the cowboys. His players are undisciplined and mouth off. Just wait until Parcels starts to take all the talent to Miami. I give him one more season maybe two before he gets fired by the Lizard Jones.
Posted by PaulC @ 2:10 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Wade is delusional. He claimed there were no stupid penalties, that the arrows were point up, that Romo played terrifically, and that he "advanced" to the round of 8. Get that? Especially the last one. Wade is claiming a bye is the equivalent of a playoff "win". Fire his worthless fat butt now.
Posted by Ryans4427 @ 2:11 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Yeah, I really thought Dallas proved their dominance again last night. After every cheap shot personal foul, false start, offsides, unnecessary sack, dropped pass, and missed tackle I kept saying "geez, this is such a superior team."
Posted by tony @ 2:11 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
im cancelling my nfl network it made me sick the dropped passes the stupid penalties they had no fire under their ass crayton after all that talking then he drops passes right in his gut they went from one extreme to another as far as coaches go they need someone in between

Maybe if Romo wasnt thinking about his blonde girlfriend, maybe the cowboys would of won. Blame it Jessica Simpson. The people in NY are Jessica's biggest fans now!!!!!!

WHAT??? I have been neutral about Wade as the coach, but this is totally wrong. Just because the Cowboys have more Pro Bowl players on their roster does not mean they are a better team. The Cowboys got out played and out hustled by the Giants.
Wade saying the Cowboys were the better team gives me no hope for the team because he is not acknowledging that the Cowboys have to improve their intensity and focus. 13-3 in the regular season is nice, but it doesn't mean anything come playoff time.

GO GIANTS!!!
Posted by Quincy C. @ 2:14 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
I'm also the best QB Dallas has ever had...the best team wins...period Wade...not enough pressure on Eli...especially after he takes a phantom sack in the first half...prevent right before the half...when you have #31 and #35 wearing their asbestos jerseys...pressure not prevent Wade...1/2 your secondary can't cover anybody and need all the pressure you can give them...
Posted by The Parsimonious Pigskinner @ 2:15 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
I am The Parsimonious Pigskinner.
If Wade thinks the Cowboys were "the better team", he needs a reality check.
By definition - if you go into a hostile playoff environment and beat your opponent fair and square - then you are the Superior team.
If you are facing a playoff game at home, with 2 weeks to rest and prepare, and you get beat fair and square - then you are the inferior team.
The Parsimonious Pigskinner has spoken.
Posted by zilladogg @ 2:15 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
absolutely he should say that will!!!! what game was he watching , how can he say the boys where the better team ??
penalities , missed tackles , dropped balls, crap
play calling , give me a break !!!
who cares what the regular season record is ,
you play the regular season for post season glory !!
Posted by gpaq @ 2:16 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
That's a loser talking. The better team doesn't sit home watching the lesser teams on tv. That's a horrendous attitude. and it's the attitude the players played with. the attitude that the 13-3 is good enough & the playoffs are gravy.
i wish Bill did this press conference.
Posted by Hiding in NY @ 2:19 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
I cant believe he is already making comments like this.
After every win next year, when the media asks a player, "what does this win mean to your team?", i was hoping that the answer would be "NOTHING. Its one step closer to making the playoffs, where the wins will actually mean something."
But this attitude that hes displaying is already dashing those hopes. We didnt advance anywhere, we got beat. Every one of those 13 wins means nothing except making the playoffs - which quite frankly...means nothing! Its far worse to lose in the tournament than to not make it at all.
PS: I agree with putting the blame on Crayton. He should be completely ashamed of himself, giving up with 20 seconds to go in the game?? dropping passes left and right?? I guess Bill Parcells was right, hes at best a #3 receiver, he shouldnt be targeted with the game on the line.
Posted by J40 @ 2:19 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Reminds me of Matt Leinart's comments after Texas beat USC in the Rose Bowl
Posted by Rick @ 2:21 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
The Cowboys lost because the offensive line did not stop the Giants and because the receivers dropped too many passes. Compare this with the Patriots game where Brady had infinite time to throw and his receivers caught almost ALL of those fingertip passes. Romo did fine in this game. The rest of the offense did not.

The Giants shouldn't have a problem with Wade's comments. After all, Strahan and his buddy with the long name that I can't spell right now said the same thing after both of their regular season losses to the Cowboys.

Posted by JD @ 2:33 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
See, that right there is why Wade must go. It's the same kind of coddling attitude that Gibbs did up here when the Deadskins lost: praised them for everything they did, except win the game. We need a guy (not Parcells-like) who instills a win-the-game-at-all-costs mentality. As much as I hate the Pats and think they are still cheaters (why else would Goodell come down so hard on them?), Belicheat has all 53 guys only thinking about winning (with or w/o a little help). No crap about individual records. I've been consistently saying I'm concerned about the Boys ever since the Green Bay game.
P.S., Crayton sucks.
P.S., CAPTCHA sucks.

folks....I didn't like what I heard today from Wade. Delusional and has his head stuck in the sand indeed. I've always thought he was a good d-cord, but now I can see why his teams have always underachieved. Get ready Cowboy fans, it will take a freakin miracle of collective talent in all areas to get to the Super Bowl next year despite the coaching. I just don't see Wade being able to get it to the next level. There is nothing wrong with saying what could've been the case with a few plays being made, but whatever happened to making no excuses and saying we WILL get the problem areas corrected and get it done next year. Show some determination and fire dude! Even Tony Dungy knows how to fire his team up and pay attention to detail.
Posted by Hillary Owens @ 2:40 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Brandon B, yeah but the giants came back and PROVED that they were better especially when it counted. Dallas, the one and done, Cowboys. The sad thing is that you won't see the Cowboys in the playoffs next year. The boys implode. This is one of those losses that ruins a team. I repeat, lets see how good Wade is once Parcels draws critical personnel to Miami. Just look at Bill's past, he always rehires his best guys and they want to go and play for him again (not Wade, Oh-for, Phillips).

Posted by J-NY @ 2:47 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
The Giants won because for the past few weeks they have been in playoff mode starting with the PATS watch the game and see how a true team switches it on when they have too. Now look at Dallas the last few weeks and a few games in the season you could see their true game. That is the difference in these two teams the giants HAVE the mind set to know that you don't take this oportunity lightly. The Cowboys came expecting to win like the reg season just handed them the SB when in fact there was still more football left to be played. The better team did win hands down I watched the game in HD there was noooooo phantom penalties all desevered SORRY.

Dallas may have the better team but they didn't play it. They took this Giants team to lightly and were looking forward to nextr week and the super bowl. Blame this on coaching, not preparing the team to play. Gaints made the right adjustments at half time, 1st half they couldn't pressure Romo at all, 2nd half he spent more time on the ground than on his feet.

"The Best Team Lost" Alas, the mantra of a loser!
I am a life long Cowboy fan, and can not stand this mentality. In the regular season, SOMETIMES the better team loses, and they make corrections and prove it the next week. The best team wins and moves on in the playoffs…PERIOD. And right now the Giants are playing better than my Boys. Hard to admit, but sometimes the truth hurts. The Cowboys have played like hell since the second half of the Green Bay game. They do not deserve the right to move on.
Posted by Maureen @ 3:15 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Hey Dallas losers, wanna know why your team will never be a contender? Look at Phillips' comments again. You may not like the Pats, but they never sugarcoat their losses. Even when they win they're always looking at what they can improve. All Phillips could look at was his shiny 13-3 season. Hey that's great Wade, you were number 1 in a weak NFC--in the regular season. Instead of looking at how to keep improving week to week, he let this team become ever more slack & casual. Face it fans...your Parcells Cowboys peaked with this season. Phillips Cowboys will only go downhill from here, & his comments point to why.

I've been a long time CowFan and it wouldn't surprise me if the Cowboys continue this swing downward come the Divisional Playoff. Am I wrong for thinking like this after this 13-3 season? I see them doing what the Mavericks, Stars and Desperados did and losing the first playoff game. POSTED JAN. 3, 2008. I CALLED IT!!!! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT THESE COWGIRLS ARE.

Posted by mitch @ 3:25 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
maybe the defensive backfield should have gone to Mexico too...they played like a group of middle schoolers. Tony Romo and Barber had to try and win the game by themselves, very tough in the 2nd half when the O line gave up. Tony shouldn't have to answer to anyone about Mexico...he carried the entire freaking team on his back. get rid of Crayton, Roy Williams, Reeves, J Jones asap!
Posted by cro @ 3:26 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Like a couple of others have said, I've been neutral but very supportive of Wade. I believed at the time that his hire was a very good one. But these comments are a magnifying glass of his history. These comments explain why his teams have never won in the post season...no acceptance of the loss...only denial..."the better team lost"...Wade, you may have been the better team the day before, but that's little consolation now. NFL history is filled with "better" teams that never won when they were supposed to. So were they really the better team?
I started to get worried when we got all those pro bowl nominations...I was afraid it would screw with their intensity and drive and they sure played that way in this game.
Wade has been using the 13-3 argument when people brought up the "are you concerned" questions at the end of the year. Well, now that we are one and done AGAIN, does anybody out there feel any better this year than last? To me, this feels much worse than last year.
Wade, if your goal is to have the "better" team, congratulations, according to your standards, success has been achieved. Does that mean you can leave?

Exceed expectations? I think not. What did we expect? Not to make the playoffs? No Wade, expectations were to at least win a playoff game since he hadn't done it in 11 year (now 12!)
You've stretched your playoff record to 0-4.
Winston Churchill once said: Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. Wade has repeated it 4 times now, and if Jerry does like he said after the game, he will repeat the Wade Phillips tragedy again...

Needless stupid penalties, out of condition offense linemen that played out late in the game, players fussing at each other, shoddy tackling and other lack of fundamentals ... these are all signs of a team with a lack of discipline, and discipline must come from the head coach. If Phillips truly wants to coach this team, let's see if he gets rid of Roy Williams, Flozell Adams, and any other over-rated, non-productive players who are the cause of the problems. I have my doubts for now.

HEY GUYS WADE ISNT STUPID, HE JUST HAS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT AGENDA THAN THE COWBOY MANAGEMENT, THE PLAYERS, AND THE FANS.
HIS AGENDA? KEEPING HIS JOB.
THATS WHY HE HAS DENIED AND TRIED TO HIDE PROBLEMS WITH THE TEAM ALL ALONG, AND WHY HE KEEPS UP HIS 13-3(NOW 13-4) CHATTER AND QUOTING STATISTICS TO TRY TO PROVE THE BOYS ARE ACTUALLY PLAYING WELL.
THIS GUYS IS CONCERNED WITH STAYING ON JERRY'S GOOD SIDE AND KEEPING HIS JOB, AND THAT TAKES PRIORITY OVER TAKING CHANCES AND MAKING CHANGES TO THIS TEAM. ITS HIS JOB FIRST, AND EVERYTHING ELSE AFTERWARDS. HE DOES NOT HAVE WHAT IS BEST FOR THE TEAM AT HEART. ITS WHAT IS BEST FOR WADES CONTINUING EMPLOYMENT, AND FROM THE SOUND OF JERRY, ITS WORKING.

Dallas is great but clearly undisciplined, and lack mental focus when it counts. Tony Romo didn't play a bad game but ok was an a$$ for going to Mexico why? becuase it shows lack of focus, and discipline. Indicative of a team problem. Only the game of his life! That is the last thing you want from someone who is suppose to be the leader ( one of )on this team. I would have been somewhere getting my game face on! and Is it his fault of course not! penalities, dropped passes, etc you all saw the game. I blame Jones and Phillips, but mostly Jones. Oh yeah a women who love football. Go Cowboys!

Guess what Wade, you didn't exceed expectations this year. You were expected to win a playoff game and were widely considered an NFC SuperBowl favorite, even before the season. So getting the #1 seed and losing your only playoff game is NOT EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS!!! PS-Good riddance Garrett. Let's hire some guy who knows offense and has no desires to become a HC. Maybe that was the reason we couldn't score for the past month. PPS - FIX THIS SECURITY CODE STUPIDITY!!!!!
Posted by mitch @ 3:49 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
i am not a huge wade phillips fan, but some of this must reside with the players with respect to focus, drive, desire etc. they had more discipline than the Marine Corp the last several years with Parcells and didn't accomplish anything either...barely made the playoffs 2 years and finished 6-10 another year.
Posted by Jerry Jones @ 3:53 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
What's worse - the fact that the Cowboys lose at home when all previous #1 seeds were 17-0, or that their idiot coach points out how big an idiot he is by stating his was the better team.
Earth to Moron - if yours was the better team, then shouldn't you have won, Einstein?

If Tony Romo and the idiots of the Dallas Cowboys believe that the weekend trip to Mexico was a non-factor need to have their heads examined. The Cowboys last regular season loss should have sent off warning bells that Romo's head was somewhere else.

Phillips says that the "best team lost the game". He sure has a hard time facing reality, doesn't he? Do I feel sad for the Dallas, the same team that fired and humilated the great Tom Landry? Not a chance. What goes around comes around. We Packer fans here in Wisconsin were looking forward to a re-match with Dallas. Had Farve not been injured in their regular season meeting (1st Qtr), Dallas would have been coming to Green Bay (admit it, Farve's backup almost beat you). Too bad though, I guess we'll have to show Dallas how the real best team performs. By the way, Romo is from Burlington, Wisconsin. That makes the Dallas hero a Yankee, doesn't it! Please, keep him in Dallas. We don't care to have "Extra" doing shows with the two of them here! It looked like Romo was more busy scanning the stands for Jessica than looking for a receiver! I thought he was told she wasn't coming. Enjoy your off season with the rest of the losers!

You know, if you lose the game, you don't have the better team. Bottom line. You didn't play better (11 penalties, critical dropped passes, poor tackling, special teams miscues) and you didn't score more than they did, which adds up to them being better than you. I'm a Cow fan, but you gotta face the truth--Giants were the better team yesterday and proved it. Kudos to them, and best of luck against the Packers--unlike the little cowboys, they're not going to roll over and want their bellies scratched.

Any team that makes Eli Manning look like Tom Brady deserves to get their butt kicked. Either that boy grew a brain and learned the QB position in a matter of weeks, or the cows suddenly have the absolute worst pass defense in the NFL. But the list of things that went bad is long and tiring--poor tackling, bad penalties, untimely dropped passes, and Giants receivers sitting on islands. It's a wonder how a team can go 13-3 and play this poorly in the playoffs. Was the NFC really that challenging this NFL season? I guess we have our answer.
Posted by Graham Cook @ 5:29 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
The best team won the game, that's how sports works. The Giants outplayed the Cowboys, period. Could have caught it and should have caught it does not win games, points do. I hope this bitter taste serves the players well next year if we make it to the playoffs. I think Wade would do well to admit that we may have had more yards and all that stuff but we got beat and the blame has to start from the top. I hope Wade wants to prove he's a good playoff coach next year.
Posted by Nathan @ 5:32 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Injuries, of course, are part of the game, but the Giants were missing their secondary, working with the practice squad........and a full compliment of Cowboy WR's could not take advantage. The Giants will show them next year who is inferior. The "Boys" will revert and miss the playoffs.

Dallas was the best team. The key word here is "was"! Giants outplayed Dallas. Romo is a young QB! Give him some time and he'll put the Cowboys back in the saddle! It's good to see T.O. as a team player for once.
We had a chance and lost it all again. I just wish Jerry would sell the team and let's just start over! Those commericals say it all, Jerry is the one coaching the team, not Wade. Jerry needs to stay off the sidelines and let his coaches coach! That is why you pay them the big bucks! Dallas has been sloppy all year! You can't expect to win in the play offs with "sloppy".
Dallas will be back! There is always next year Romo! Giants will be out of the playoffs next weekend and then GB will lose to the Patriots in the SB. I'll be laughing at those two losses!

The better team lost. And it doesn't matter, because the Giants are going to get their butts kicked at Lambeau and the Cowboys will watch the Packers-Patriots Superbowl at home like everyone else.

I hope this is not the symptom of someone who has learned how to lose and yet make himself feel better. Let's check the logic here. If Dallas is the better team on paper then I guess it's up to the coach to have them ready to play like the better team and win.
You're a nice guy Coach Phillips, but you need to be upset at yourself primarily, your coaches and your players. The Cowboys are the NY Yankees of football. We expect to compete vigorously for the Super Bowl every year and we get really upset when someone is quite happy with a lame finish when you have this many very good individual players and a supportive owner. No pun intended, but the stars don't always line up so nicely.
Now we're back to a year of free-agent watching, drafting, pre-season, regular season etc. in hopes that we get to this point again. Opportunity gained, opportunity lost, where's the self-directed anger? I hope we see it on the field next year when the "better team" wins every week. Sorry for the high expectations, but Landry and Johnson taught me to expect greatness when the Cowboys possess as much talent as they did this year.
Where is the code of excellence in preparation and execution? This is what this team doesn't have yet: The heart of a champion. And finally, don't put this all on Romo, he played well enough to win, but others did not show up yesterday and we already know who they are. If Crayton makes those two catches, Romo throws for almost 300 yards and has 2 more touchdowns.

"The best team lost the game?" Leading up to the game I had a bad feeling about Dallas but I wasn't sure why. After the game I was sure about Dallas. For 60-minutes of play there were 22 men on the field but only 11 of those men made up a football team, the New York Giants. The other 11 were a part of a poorly choreographed media circus. From Jerry Jones to the water boy, a B-grade Soap Opera. If, as some would say, football is not sport, it's Hollywood, then Coach Phillips was right, the best actors lost. For the sake of genuine sports fans, thank goodness for the likes of Green Bay, New England, New York and San Diego who still leave their talking for the football field. Come to think of it Coach Landry hardly ever spoke but almost always won. What say Texas gets rid of the actors and big mouths and see if we can't find us some football players?

As a Packer fan for the last 45 years, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching the Cowboys lose. I went the the GB game in Dallas this year and was amazed how dumb and stupid Dallas fans could act. Glad I didn't bring my young son.
Well, I guess the Packers don't have to worry about their recent 0-9 record in Dallas anymore.
HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS? !!!!!

The Cowboys looked so undeciplined. I am a GB fan and there is a part of me angry they lost. If we had played that team that showed up, we could have beaten them. Wade's team was ill prepared. Because you beat someone in regular season (even twice) no guarantee. As for TO, I think he heard Hilary bagged some good news off a little sobbing so he is probably trying it out. Oh, for got to mention, regarding TO, I just got a call from a crocodile....he is demanding his tears back!

I guess the a gold star to Wade for effort. A gold star to Jerry for cutting Aaron Glenn. And an especially large gold star to the mouthy players who wanted Parcells gone.
Gold star for mediocrity ... and a lollipop too.
(Only thing I hate more than folks who accept losing so easily are folks too stupid to understand what the alternative requires.)
Posted by Buck @ 8:08 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Wade is right, the best team lost to the better coached team. We had the best players, but Wade and his staff were out coached by the Giants staff. Parcells built a good team here, only to have Wade screw it up. Parcells left because he would not kiss T.O.'s but. Jerry found a coach that would. Parcells will win in Miami before we win another super bowl. What a shame, this should have been our year. With or without T.O.

Even the 8-8 Eagles beat them. Of course those same Eagles lost to the Pats by 3 points in New England. If the Boys had played the same schedule the Eagles had they would have gone 10-6 at best.
Looks like the Giants and possibly Phila with a health McNabb will be 1-2 in the division next year. The Boys (cowgirls with crying TO) are done.

must be the coaching then. you have to put it on the scoreboard. whichever coach says "the best team didn't win", should be the one who gets fired.

Giants fan here. Not going to kick you when you're down. Not my style. But those stats indicate the NY defense gave up the short stuff to prevent the big plays.

The game was over at halftime! 10+ minutes, 20 plays to score, and it was answered in 43 very easy seconds. You Cowpies wore yourselves out! Pathetic! It must suck being the number two team in Texas. America's Team rules - Dallas drools!
Go New York Football Giants - America's Team!
GO - BLUE!
p.s.: Dallas sucks!

Did anyone TIVO the game? Look back in the 3rd and 4th quarters. There were those little graphic plugs at the bottom corners of the tv screen for next week's game against the Packers and Giants?? I saw that at least twice. How did THEY know the Cowboys were going to loose? I saw the first one in the 3rd quarter. I'm not trying to start a conspiracy theory or anything, but what I saw was pretty weird, especially since the game was being broadcast in real time.

Steelers fan here from NJ. What's up with Jessica bashing? It's *her* fault Romo played poorly? Come on!! It's the PLAYOFFS, as in 'win or go home'. He should have spent his beach time in the film room, or throwing with TO. How stupid. I would can his a--. Stop blaming women for guys who can't focus or get their priorities straight. Have fun on the beach for the next six months Tony!! hahahaha
Posted by JerseyBlue42 @ 11:59 PM Mon, Jan 14, 2008
Gino, have some class will ya? We beat 'em fair and square. It was our day to shine, their day to lick their wounds and soul-search, as we did on weeks one and two and after the Minnesota game.
As a Giants fan I have no love for the Cowboys team (sorry guys, and I know the feeling's mutual, especially today), but I respect the team and their potential. I mean, what if McQuarters hadn't been there and Whitten, TO or another Cowboy had? The game really did come down to one play.
Dallas, you have nothing to be ashamed of; just today it was our turn. The more G-men fans like Gino (and others) who are taking pleasure rubbing salt in Dallas' wounds, I shudder to think how they'll feel if, next Monday morning, the comments section of the Packers' blog contains similar sentiments. Be gracious in victory and defeat. That's the mark of a man.
Posted by Jersey Girl @ 12:35 AM Tue, Jan 15, 2008
JB42 - On the replay from the view of Romo you could see McQuarters clearly in front of the receiver. Ball should never have been thrown there. Romo put that ball in wrapping paper and a big bow delivered straight to the Giants.

I think the best team did lose the game. In the search for answers to the Cowboys failure to play even close to expectations, I still think it ultimately came down to a failure of imagination and creativity, as I expressed earlier today. But there just might be something else as well.
At the beginning of the year, the offense was carrying the defense. Usually it's the defense that starts out ahead of the offense, but Wade was putting in a different 3-4. I recall being surprised by Wade's comments after the Cowboys first win of the season. The offense clearly had saved the day, but Wade's comments indicated that he clearly claimed responsibility for the offense's successes. I put it in the back of my mind for the time being since, as head coach, he is ultimately responsible for every success and failure of the team. But Garrett was getting a lot of favorable comments and accolades throughout most of the year for his ingenuity and creativity in running the offense. As the season drew to a close, Garret's creativity and ingenuity seems to have been less and less in evidence.
Only Jerry will be able to find out for sure but, given Phillips' personality, it's quite possible that as the season wore on, Phillips began to exert increasingly more influence over the offense. The last creative thing I can recall Garrett doing was moving T.O. around to confuse the defensive coverages. That tactic was quite effective, but I don't recall seeing much of it lately. In fact, lately I've seen very little evidence of the creative mind of Garrett that was so much in evidence at the beginning of the season. I can't help but wonder if, as head coach, Phillips has simply asserted more and more control over the offense, obligating Garrett to curtail his creative innovations. The offensive spark that excited the fans and made the Cowboys offense appear so formidable at the beginning of the season was no longer apparent at the end. I find it hard to believe that Garret's personality and philosophy could have changed so drastically during the course of one season. I can only wonder if Phillips used his authority as head coach to assume more control over the offense and overrule Garret's decisions, and thereby legitimize his claims to the offensive accomplishments of the team. I'm merely raising a question that is plaguing me right now because I have no definitive answer and, as a Cowboys fan, I'd like to know. And, if Jerry doesn't know yet, I think it's something he should want to find out before it's too late.

Thank you Giants for shutting their holes, you saved me another week of their senseless crap. Romo can go back on vacation, Philips can keep thinking his team is the best, TO can weep about it, and Jones can do us all a favor by keeping Philips as his head coach, hahahaha.

Hey Cowboy Haters. Dallas won in every category except in points. Tony would have been a hero and sent your arses home if would have made that touchdown in the last drive.
If there is one thing that the Cowboys learned was that they cannot win a playoff game with the amount of penalties.
Posted by Never Played The Game @ 11:15 AM Tue, Jan 15, 2008
The worst part of Coach Phillips' comments is the lack of class and leadership. How can you expect to lead a team to a championship if you do not have the moral fiber to accept defeat, congratulate the winner and move on to learn from your defeat. As for the GB fans who are happy to get the Giants, be careful what you wish for.

LOL!!! Took away my anger for a few minutes! Thanks, "A. Baldwin."
Since I'm posting, I will say this organization is not indicative of a championship-level group (front office, coaches, players). Hell, even the Bears got to the Super Bowl with freakin Rex GROSS-MAN. Just can't get over loser Wade's attitude about being happy about being 13-3 and setting franchise records. WTF? That mentality is scary for the future. We need guys from the 90's championship teams (excluding Aikman) to come in and let them know the real deal about preparation, focus, and killer mentality.
Someone made a fair point about Cranium Manning being locked up all weekend studying tape and still losing, but he's won a Super Bowl and playoff games. He also was prepared instead of being the latest victim of a skanky, publicity-seeking machine (and his daughter). Good luck with that. There is plenty more blame/issues to go around, but now we got all off-season for that.
In closing, Crayton is a b*tch.

Dallas stomped NY. The officiating, as in just about every game this year, was just dreadful. I can't stomach watching any more football this year due to the officiating. Green Bay crushes the Giants, Pats smoke Green Bay by 4 TDs in the Superbowl with the usual 5-10 HORRIBLE calls per game. How exciting- no thanks.

I'll agree the better team lost. But some school yard plays 3rd and ten going for it all - not the percentage play guys. Get the first down. Anyhow, still a fan, always will be. Let's get them next year. And keep the current team and coaching complement if possible.

Jim Rome put it best on his show today. In a nutshell he said Wade Phillips needs to be a man, show some class and give the Giants the credit they deserve for beating the Cowboys rather than disrespecting them by saying the Cowboys "outplayed" them.

JerseyBlue42, Here, here!! Well said! To my fellow Cowboys fans, stop your whining and crying and excuse making. You sound like Wade and the players. The best team DID win. The Giants did what they had to do to win the game. Romo had 2 chances at the end of the game, and the Giants stopped him both times. Give credit where credit is due. The Giants were better prepared, we were outcoached, and we were outplayed. Statistics are for losers. What matters is the final score. JB42, I'll be rooting for you guys to go all the way. It's an NFC East thing with me. Good luck, beat the Packers!!!
