T.O. probably a week away

6:46 PM Wed, Jan 02, 2008 |
Albert Breer   E-mail   News tips

At his press conference, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said that WR Terrell Owens probably won't practice until next Wednesday and Thursday, based on the fact that he just shed his walking boot and started jogging.

Taking that into account, Phillips expressed little doubt his star playmaker will be ready for kickoff a week from Sunday. The biggest question now is at what level he'll be capable of playing.

For now, based on Owens' past displays of remarkable healing ability, there's optimism surrounding the receiver's status.

"I think pushing off (on the ankle) is the key thing as far as high ankle sprain or any ankle sprain," Phillips said. "I don’t have any doubt about (his toughness), but we’ll have to be careful. We’d like to have him for more than one game too, so you’ve got to be careful there."

All you nay-sayers watch. Dallas will turn it on in the playoffs. With TO Back, we'll be tough to beat.

Seems to me that Parcells is at it again. He came to Dallas, got paid very well, lost and is now pillaging our staff. The man is not Hall of Fame material and lacks integrity. I understand business and I also understand integrity. It appears to me that he is failing in the integrity department again with franchises that treated him very well. When does he "get it". He obviously needs help with his integrity. Maybe integrity has passed him by like the "game" has.

Dallas will be fine in the playoffs with or without T.O. However, with him... and just T.G.'s ability to stretch the defense... this TEAM is going to be scary.
Jason, all the nay-sayers don't bother me. We had the same types during the 70's and 90's. The sky is falling... the sky is falling. It's not, it's just the quiet before the storm!

Just having 81 on the field will help our offense even if he can only run the 9 route. I doubt he'll be 100% but TO at 75% is better than 90% of the WR's in the NFL. But more importantly is the trickle down effect he and Terry Glenn will give us. Instead of counting on 2 undrafted guys with Sam Hurd and Miles Austin it'll make Sam Hurd the 4th guy.

I think people are dreaming if they think that Owens will be good to go for the first playoff game . . . maybe he gets on the field, but he only has straightaway potential and he would be slow to start and stop. He won't be a factor in the first playoff game. That kind of sprain won't let him be cutting "fast" for another few weeks.

I agree with the integrity comment on Parcell's. It reminds me a lot of Mike Holmgren leaing for Seattle and taking the whole front office with him. The game needs to be bigger than the Parcel's or the Holmgren's that have big ego's and yet lack the confidence to build their staffs from outside of the organizations they left.

T.O. needs to be living in his chamber till game day. The man will heal and dominate the playoffs like no other. The M**F**ing COWBOYS ARE BACK BABY

It's amazing how fans nationwide and even our own fans are questioning our seeding and 13-3 record?. We did what we had to do EARLY in the season so we wouldn't have to give an "out of this world effort" just to make the tournament (see Redskins). We'll be fine...please believe.

All you fake ars Boy's fans questioning our tatics PLEASE JUMP off and grow some or find another team to ride.

We will beat the Hawks in the divisional
beat the Packers or Giants in the conf. championship
BEAT the Chargers..... for ANOTHER Super Bowl

How bout that!!!!!!! Yeah I'm talking a good one......because I BELIEVE...............PERIOD.

Go Boys!!!

Great news if indeed T.O. seems to be looking better! Thank God for that, as he would say.
I have a feeling the Boy's have been spoon feeding the rest of the league, as well as some people who have expressed their opinions on this Blog, judging by their reactions to a game that meant nothing but records.
After the Green Bay game, they have avoided showing any more than needed in regards to their "options and game planning’s". Not showing anything new.
But, if we can have T.O. and Glenn and all that THIS means, applied to that field on the 13th, then I would feel safe to say that that would be the first of three explosive performances by the Cowboys to go on to win the Super Bowl. That's how confident I feel about it. If only because of the possibilities it gives our offense now with a full deck to play with.
The same on D. We may be in for a treat to see more of the Spencer in there at the same time with Ellis and DWare. And with the way Ratliff's playing. And with Tank's improved play, watch out!
And to all the redskins fans that came to this here "Dallas Cowboys Blog" to talk garbage, well I say to you now: Bring the redskins back in two weeks!; I want to see the look on the players faces when they get looks they've never seen all year. Whoever. I can't wait to begin! And just watch Roy Williams. Just watch.

To Tim Burns... May I call you Timmy? Just kidding, bro.

What could one expect, productivity-wise, from a guy who'd missed 93.75% of 'da fu'bawl season? Certainly my most favorite receiver has a history of greatness... we all loved him more than Terrell last year, didn't we? You are wondering if, given all of TG's mechanical parts are in good working order, he'll show up and produce... right?

I say this... Texas Stadium will have it's superior turf under TG's shoes, and... this is a BIG TIME 'if'... if Mother Nature doesn't drop one of her ice storms onto the Metroplex (she's done that crap before during fu'bawl season... playoffs included... doncha know?), then TG should be able to strut some of his well remembered stuff, and I would think TheScratchGolfer will have found a sense of renewed confidence.

Speaking of TheScratchGolfer... he's the one that has me scratching my forehead these days... I just hope his latest outings can be attributed to mere growing pains... kinda like pimples on his face a few days before the prom... they eventually go away... don't they? Well... mine didn't, but that be another story...

If Terry Glenn can play! He needs to play, 'cuz his potential factor outweighs anything Patrick, Miles or Sam can bring to the table.

Relax, boys and girls. The party has yet to begin!

Me ke'aloha pumehana... y'all!

SORRY FOLKS... my post was supposed to appear under the 'Glenn Still Mending' topic... but, sometimes this freakin' CAPTCHA bullsh-t causes one to screw-up every now and then...

DUH...

Vito,

The only way Dallas plays Seattle will be in the championship game. If skins and giants both lose Green Bay has Seattle and Dallas will get Tampa.

co kool aid, I hope you're an orthopaedic doc the way you're talking. The man is in almost perfect shape, his work ethic is unmatched, and we know he's a quick healer since he sleeps in his hyperbaric chamber. He has another week and a half to get ready so have some faith dude. He may not be 100%, but I guarantee you he'll be on the field making plays and opening things up for 84, 17, and 19.

We're going to Phx on 2/3. My plans have been made.

Keep the faith!

The reality is that except for one more embarassing loss, the Cowboys are finished for this year. Now remains the task of recovering and fixing the cornerback and O line weaknesses. When a team can't rush for more than one yard, it's the O line at fault. And all teams are finding ways to throw on Dallas. So the season is basically over but the fixes need to start as soon as possible. Add to that the loss of some staff, and Dallas has a way to go to get back to the big game. Once again, December is the killer month for this franchise in recent history.

Well, T.O. certainly doesn't need my validation, but since I have been and remain a huge critic of him (overrated - too many bad, bad plays canceling out those great ones, leaving a good, not a great, receiver), these three games will make or break my view of him. If he can keep from dropping a critical pass in the playoffs (wide open in the red zone, a drop of a fourth quarter pass for a first down on third or fourth down in a close game, or a flat out giveaway), I'll join the bandwagon and gladly proclaim myself to be wrong (not the first time, for sure) and T.O. to be a great receiver. I'll give him one or maybe two drops total on non-critical plays, but we all know a bad play on a critical down when we see one, and he'll get no benefit of the doubt from me in the playoffs (a little behind him, etc). Time to prove it without excuses, and T.O. can do it if he just focuses for two or three solid games.

T.O. has another criticism to prove wrong - that he's replaceable with any other good receiver. But only the return of Glenn to full functionality will answer that criticism, since the loss of both T.O. and Glenn has meant that we're trying to replace him with our number three receiver, not an acknowledged good number 2. If T.O. doesn't play much this game and Glenn plays well, then we have a better measure of how valuable T.O. really is. Could be an interesting subplot.

Tom Salagaj are you on crack? Why on earth should anyone care right now about "fixing" holes as you say...they're the #1 seed in the NFC you D$%^head. WTF is wrong with you bone smokers? We haven't won a playoff game in 11 years and have a very good chance to do something meaningful this year.

Get off the Dallas' Wagon chumps. You obviously are not a fan, or haven't been one long enough to remember anything (ie 3-13, then 1-15).

WTF is wrong with you A$$#oles!!!? Are you seriously fans?

p.s. - I believe in Tony Romo. And if you don't, go root for the Patriots or someone else.
