Updating Garrett

As Todd Archer reported this morning, the Ravens have requested permission to interview Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett for their head coaching vacancy.

Garrett confirmed as much today, and said he's waiting to hear from Baltimore on when he'll talk with Ravens officials. He'd have to interview by Saturday, and is already scheduled to huddle with Falcons officials tomorrow, when Atlanta will also interview offensive line coach/assistant head coach Tony Sparano.

The Ravens have already scheduled an interview for this weekend with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and Atlanta plans to speak to him as well.

THIS IS A REDICULOUS SYSTEM

It just is totally unfair to the teams trying to get ready for the playoffs to have their assistant coaches distracted like this. I don't worry about losing them to another team. I do worry about their attention being distracted from the task at hand.

The NFL needs to change this immediately.

Teams have to wait until the season is over before they can contact free agent players. No reason these loser teams can't wait until after the Super Bowl to court and hire coaches just like the playoff teams will have to do.

You would think the NFL would do something about this, but then for years, I thought the NFL would do something about the horrible, inconsistant officiating and that hasn't happened either.

First all these college coaches who leave their teams before their bowl games. And now all these interviews w/ coaches of teams in the nfl playoffs. Will this ever change? Seems wrong.

As people often say, "when you're hot, you're hot". So the applicable coaches can't be criticized for seeking promotions. But, my God, how is the Dallas Cowboys going to properly prepare for a playoff game, with thier coaches so distrated?

The league needs to address this matter, in the near future.

Incidently, I don't remember Dallas interviewing coaches involved in the playoffs last year. Am I missing something here? Man!

Exactly my sentiments with the fellow bloggers. Do you think Jason Garrett is going to spend quality time updating his resume and interview speech or concentrate on the offensive plans for the next foe ?

God bless cowboys!!!

So lets do a thought experiment:

You are the project manager for XYZ company and your deadline for the project is February 2. ABC company just lost thier Vice President of Projects. There are only 31 other companies like yours in the. The VP jobs don't open up very often. ABC wants to talk to you about the VP position but they want to fill it quickly.

So what to you do?

a) Tell them they cannot even talk to you about the position because you are working on a current project and don't want to be distracted.

b) Tell them you are interested, but they will have to wait to talk to you after you have finished your current project.

c) Tell them you are interested but you can only talk to within a certain time frame so as not to interfere with your current project.

Your 'thought experiment' is rather intriguing, painster, but it would be irrelavent if the NFL applied the same rules to coaches as it does with players... right?

Well, the fact that Baltimore has not managed to schedule him for an interview is a good thing to me. It looks like they don't have time to do so before Saturday. Baltimore is the only place I can realistically see Garrett going. My bet is Miami hires Sparano (a bad thing), Garrett will not go to Atlanta, it's too screwed up, and Parcell's would hire Sparano before he'd hire Garrett (not that he has final say of course ;) ).

This means there's a good chance Garrett stays with Dallas. Woot!!

thepainster, yeah let's open up the restrictions throughout NFL and let anyone whether it's players or coaches can go to another team or get into discussion without any time rule, since as per you it brings values to the concerned party and NFL needs to take care of the well being of people rather than the game or as a team.

Can you imagine such a scenario ? for example T.O being offered $20 mil/year from Baltimore and let him visit all the losing teams to "show" his talents and come back just in time for the playoff game. He and Jason can both go together. I am sure you will like it right???

Don't worry guys we can hire Jerrah to replace Sparano and Garrett!

Just like with Ireland, what the hell do we need an Asst Coach and a OC for. Jus get Jerrah to do it like in the Pepsi Commericial

Jerrah Jones = GM Poopie Stinky Do It All Ego Maniac (* just as infantile as JJ and his Fannies but more honest about it *)

Well, I don't know what the hell we're going to do if Sparano and Garrett both leave, but let's just focus on this year.

Regardless of NFL policies on interviewing, we can look to the general manager, Jerry, for allowing the loss of focus by Jason Garrett. The media is dead wrong on Tony Romo being distracted. It is the offensive coordinator who was not prepared for the Giants defensive possibilities int he second half. It is the offensive coordinator who is responsible, along with Sporano, for the Cowboys' offensive fade late int he season. They should focus on the current run before looking to a job for next year. Tell me they are hard workers and about everything they do - fine. Neither of them did it the entire season - not at the end.
