Despite Albert "Einstein" Breer's invitation to join him in the Senior Bowl live blogfest, the college football all-star game got second-TV, no-sound status in the MacMahonor living room while I watched Big 12 hoops Saturday. But I saw enough of the Senior Bowl to be intrigued by Tennessee State CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. NFL Network draft guru Mike Maycock included Rodgers-Cromartie in his list of nine players whose stock depended on their Senior Bowl performance. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State (CB): Small-school corner with big-time skills. ... Tall, lean CB with long arms, excellent ball skills and natural change-of-direction skills. Rodgers-Cromartie must show that he is physical enough to compete against quality WRs at the highest level. I would think that Rodgers-Cromartie boosted his stock as much as any player in Mobile. By all accounts, Antonio Cromartie's cousin had an outstanding week of practice. He capped the week with a spectacular performance. His leaping interception was highlight-reel material, but scouts were probably more impressed with his sound tackling, especially a big stick on 6-3, 225-pound Oklahoma State WR Adarius Bowman. Rodgers-Cromartie slipped the recruiting cracks after he attended four high schools, ending up at a Division II program. But his combination of height (6-2) and athleticism (Ohio Valley conference track champion in the 60-yard dash, long jump and high jump) put him on NFL scouts' radars. Rodgers-Cromartie is the kind of guy who should wow measurement-obsessed scouts and GMs at the combine. He's definitely at least going to be discussed by teams like the Cowboys who are considering drafting a corner late in the first round. The two major concerns about Rodgers-Cromartie are his lack of strength (seen his weight listed from 170 to 185) and his ability to make the humongous leap from D2 to NFL. Can't say I've ever seen Tennessee State play, but I'm guessing their defensive schemes aren't quite as complicated as the Cowboys'. You figure the frame will fill out within a year or two of working with an NFL strength coach -- and not running track during the spring. Rodgers-Cromartie might need that long to adjust to the mental part of the highest level of football, too. In other words, DR-C might not be ready to fill the Cowboys' need of a third cornerback next season. He appears to have the potential, however, to blossom into a star down the road. |

I saw him play and he was dominant. He really impressed. My guess is he vaulted himself into a #1 pick. Great coverage, great tackling, great all around performance.

any new Cow-pie DB would probably only need to cover several routes right?...from the outside...Newman would slide into slot right?...

can we block this guy who keeps posting these stupid remarks? Really annoying. Grow up, little boy.

I watched DR-C practice on TV, and the guy was unstoppable. They couldn't complete a single pass on him. I was VERY impressed.
They say that he worked very closely with Deion Sanders off the field. And say what you want to say, but Deion has a very good track record of working with young, super prospects (see Devin Hester among others).

Everytime I watched the Chargers in the playoffs I often found myself daydreaming about Antonio Cromartie playing opposite T-New because I think Ant was on the board when we draft two years ago. DR-C has all the physical tools and thats more than we can say for all our CBs except for T-New. McClevin will be gone and DR-C is simply an athlete which is what you have to be in order to become a shutdown CB. Whoknows but maybe my daydreaming was foretelling another Cromartie opposite T-New. Can Jerry and Co. pass up another Cromartie?

won't matter who we draft we'll find a way to ruin them...

I watched the game and the kid really looked awesome. The only other standout was DT Sedrick Ellis from USC. Those two guys stole the show. I think if Rodgers-Cromartie has a nice combine he just might be a mid-second round or 3rd round pick. He looked better than our current group.
I will be watching for his name on draft day.

worth the wait? they way things are at corner right now the cowboys can afford to wait for DR-C to develop before being able to play slot or start on the other side...he could definitely help automatically in quarter schemes during his period of waiting until he "blossoms." Anyway, I'll take Manningham at the 22 if felix isn't around. I don't know how imperative it is to draft this guy but we shouldn't let another Cromartie get away.
