You can grunt and groan about Giants vs. Patriots, but all red-blooded American males are required to watch the Super Bowl. So you might as well go ahead and decide which team you want to win. OK, I know no true blue Cowboy fan could ever root for the Giants to win. I reckon the question should be, are you rooting for the Pats to win or lose? As far as I'm concerned, a perfect season would be pretty cool to see. It could very well be a once-in-a-lifetime thing. And Albert "Einstein" Breer could use a pick-me-up after his alma mater got whupped in the BCS championship game. More than anything, though, I just want this to be a rare Super Bowl that is fun to watch for four quarters. |

As much as it hurts i am rooting for eli manning...terrible i know, but i do not want the '00s patriots to be the unanimous greatest dynasty of all time, with 4 super bowls under their belt. I can live with eli having a super bowl as long as we dominate them next season. I hate Tom Brady and his cockiness and would hate for him to be the "greatest qb of all time." This is a terrible year for me in the playoffs, so i'll be rooting for both teams to forfeit and the super bowl get cancelled...that sounds good
Posted by The Playmaker @ 10:44 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
Root for the Patriots to lose. I've heard enough nonsense about how if the Pats win it all this year, they'll be the greatest dynasty of all time. So lets get this straight, the greatest dynasty of all time played in the most watered down era of the league and won its super bowls by field goals? Riiiight... The 90s cowboys, 80s niners, 70s steelers would all have smoked this Pats team
STOP THIS GARBAGE NOW

I will root for ANYONE playing the Patriots. ANYONE! New England is corrupt and disgraceful.
Posted by Mike G @ 10:51 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
Does anyone know where you can find out the current length of all NfL Asst coaches? Jerry mentioned on his radio program that Wade was going to start considering getting more coaches he is familiar with. I was just trying to figure out who could be coming available. Maybe to replace, Bowels , Rogers and Pasquoloni.

Brayiots are not the best team in NFL history, they're the luckiest - look at their injuries this year for proof.
Posted by Cowpunk @ 10:58 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
That was supposed to say Bradyiots...... and they continue to be healthy while everyone else is injury riddled.
Posted by tee @ 11:02 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
I have developed a hate Patriots syndrome, is this healthy?
Posted by RAMS FAN @ 11:03 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
I WILL BE ROOTIN FOR THE RAMS, BECUASE THEY THE TEAM OF THE FUTURE. BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS YEAR. NEXT YEAR WHEN IT COUNTS, THEY WILL HAVE A HEALTHY STEEN JACKSON BACK (YOU KNOW, THE SAME STEVENN JACKSON THAT THE COW CHOKERS PASSED ON). A HEALTHY MARC BULGETR. LOOK OUT NFL, HERE COMES THE GREATEST SHOW ON TURF! THE WORLDS TEAM.
SCOREBOARD RAMS!

Patriots. I hope they crush the Giants. I can't bear the thought of looking at Strahan and Mumbles Manning for the next two weeks...

I'll be for the lesser of two evils which is the Giants.

Giants, I could never root for the Pats.
Posted by tex @ 11:20 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
Neither. I will turn down any invitations to SB parties, and I shall not have a party myself.
A quick trip somewhere or volunteering to work that weekend ought to do the trick.
I have purposely missed SB 29, SB 31 entirely, so it's nothing new to me.
I find these two teams disgusting, reprehensible, and I downright hate both of them. Pox on both their houses

I'm a red-blooded American female, so I get a pass! Woohoo!
I'd like to see the Pats lose, but I think if they were going to, it would have happened by now. They're too mentally sharp to fall apart in the biggest game of the season-I think. I expect them to come out guns blazing.
I don't know if I'll watch it. I really don't. I'm mildly interested in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at halftime, but I keep thinking of them as "Tom Coughlin and the Heartbreakers," so maybe not.

in an upset I'm going to take the jelly doughnut box over a game but getting older Wayne Phillips...the all-U-can-eat pancake breakfast will also pull an upset over Roy Williams...but these upsets will not occur due to a lack of effort on the favorites...HA HA HA...Hail to the Redskins!!!...

Can I just hope for the first tie in Super Bowl history? No? As much as I despise those chodaaaah guzzlers, I have to say that I'll be more than happy to watch them obliterate Peyton's "special" little brother and those pompous blowhard Jints.
Posted by Doug @ 11:45 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
Since the Giants are in our division, I would rather they drafted lower, which I assume will happen if they win. So go Giants!
Posted by BlueTexan! @ 11:47 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
The Giants already had their Superbowl! It was here in big D, when they beat the Dallas Cowboys, the first #1 seed to lose in the first round of the playoffs ever! Jerry scrunched up his botox while frowning and fretting the last couple minutes, T.O. cried, and Dimples Romo lost his composure, throwing a ball OB with no one near him, snarling at his lineman- memories to last a liftime! And now BigBlue gets to go to another SuperBowl- how about that!! yeeeehaww!
Posted by Roy Williams' Jock @ 11:48 PM Sun, Jan 20, 2008
I'm rooting for a tie, so that neither one is the winner. The Super Bowl trophy should not be in the hands of cheaters or punk ass whiners.
Posted by Ran @ 12:17 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
Can't root for the Giants against the Patriots? I could even pull for the Redskins against the Patriots. Besides, it would be a great lesson for the Cowboys if the Giants won because they know it should be them. All Dallas had to do was commit themselves 100% to improving and maintaining focus after they clinched the #1 seed. Hope everyone noticed that the 2 teams that coasted in the last regular season game (Cowboys, Colts) had to watch the games on TV this weekend. The team that played their hearts out against the Pats is in the Super Bowl. Momentum is a very powerful force. You can never take your foot off the pedal.
Posted by tee @ 12:31 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
Ran, amen. I hope next year our Cowboys keep that foot on the pedal. It hurts like hell that the Cowboys let this season end that way. NO MORE EXCUSES!!
Posted by DougO @ 12:42 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
If the Patriots win, they will be wrongly considered by the media as the best NFL team ever, and that would suck. They are the best NFL team in today's pitiful league of mediocrity. There's no way they should be mentioned in the same breath as the great teams of the 70s and the early 90s, where you had to get through other dynasties.
The Patriots are also the LUCKIEST team in NFL history. Every possible contender they played all year was depleted by injuries. They can hardly be considered the best ever when they were barely better than the Jags and Chargers.
Posted by bradyandeliarevages @ 1:44 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
whats up with all the coverage of the games which don't involve the BOYS. I thought this was a cowboys blog. who gives a F about the other teams. for the first time in decades, I SURELY WON'T WATCH THE RIGGEDBOWL.
Posted by Greybeard @ 2:07 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
The Giants. Number one, they've truly earned it, like it or not. Give Eli credit for managing games well and limiting mistakes. 10 straight road victories including 3 straight road victories in the playoffs is no small feat. They pretty much shut down two of the more potent offenses in the league on the road in the playoffs. They had to contend in one of the better divisions in football and persevered, while the Patriots honed their skills against one of the worst.
Besides, I have a nephew living in Redskins country who is a Giants fan. Blood is thicker than water and he was only 8 when NY won their last Super Bowl when he wasn't even a fan. Plus, his father is a Redskins fan. Despite both, he stuck by his Giants and I give him credit for it. Win one for Jesse, NYFG!
Posted by Greybeard @ 2:32 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
By the way Tim, you needn't worry about the 4 quarters issue. Every Super Bowl the latest incarnation of the Patriots has been in was decided by a field goal or less. It's not like they dominate once they get there.
As a matter of fact, I can only remember 5 Super Bowls determined by 3 points or less, and the Pats won 3 of them. Dominant. Riiiight.
Posted by Jakeem @ 4:31 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
New England can't score enough points against the Giants to satisfy me. I can't believe Eli Manning reached a Super Bowl before Philip Rivers and the Chargers!
Posted by Buck Frady @ 4:39 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
This will be a tough choice for NY mediots and fans who will try to ride both band wagons.

Who cares. Don't care about next season. Don't care about the Stars. Don't care about the Mavericks. I'm just sick and tired of that FAILURE Jerry Jones ruining this franchise. He couldn't stand pat with Jimmy Johnson and mucked that up. And he's had his paws in every draft and personel disaster since then. Teams have gone to the Super Bowl, been torn down, and now have RETURNED to the Super Bowl since Jones crappy draft picks and toady coaches have even won a playoff game. We go nowhere until the man who made Roy Williams the #7 pick in the NFL draft dies, retires, or is bought out. I hope the stadium falls in on both the Giants and the Patriots.

Hate to say it - Go Giants!
I found myself rooting for them yesterday (very scary). I just can't stand the whole Favre thing. For some reason, I don't think I hate the Giants as much as Wash and Phila. In addition, I can't stand the evil empire either. Yes, they're 18-0 but I find them way too cocky & arrogant. Down with Brady.
NFC East represent.

I feel a little better watching the packers choke like we did, but then it was to the giants who beat the teams that beat them during the season, but when it mattered most. The nightmare continues!

I gotta stick w/the NFC & especially, any NFC East team...well, maybe not the Deadskins. Though, I doubt I'd have to worry about them going anywhere; they may have won a playoff game but they're one & doners every year & only got there this year cuz of Joe & a tragedy. I look forward to the day, too when DeadskinsRule fool will get over his man-crush of Wade Phillips, not Wayne...oh, maybe that is his petname for him. DeadskinsRuleFool must have 24hr. fantasies of Wade eating donuts & fixing him pancakes to eat, after their love-sessions. Guess we know what he'll be doing on SuperBowl Sunday...making pancakes & getting dunkin donuts for his man-love. And all the rest are getting thru their man-love of TommyTerrific, who will choke in the SuperBowl & let the little Manning boy get MVP.

This league may be fixed. The two franchises closest to the league office are in the Super Bowl. The two franchises that are the recipients of officials calls or swallowing their whistles in playoff games. See San Francisco against the Giants and Oakland against the Patriots. I despise NYC, however, even more than Boston. I wish a giant tsunami would wipe both places off the face of the earth.

Posted by LoveMeSomeMe2 @ 8:18 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
Wishful thinking LittleBlue, Eli will be one/done like his brother & you then have Romo for 5 yrs. on another Cowboy run of SuperBowls. But, just think, then your dreams will be fullfilled as you & Skip Wayless can spend those 5 yrs., bashing & whining all day, eating pancakes & donuts w/DeadskinRuleFool & his man-love, Wayne.
I am rooting for the Giants & actually, happy for Eli; he took the bashing like Romo is now but Romo has a better team surrounding him, for the future & coaches. Eli probably took a bashing from you & your man-love Wayless...now, all the giant fans will be coming out of the woodwork & other anal-like cavaties.

Posted by Monte @ 8:53 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
I really can't throw my support behind either of these teams for the Super Bowl. The Patriots have to be the luckiest team I think I've ever seen. I know good teams get lucky, but these guys took it to a ridiculous level each and every game. And yes, before someone quotes it, I have heard "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity", so spare me.
I think I counted 3 or 4 games where the Pats won on pure luck. Blame the refs, call it a conspiracy, whatever, but they got really lucky this year.
And guys, seriously, all this talk about the "greatest team ever"? Get real. Any talk of "greatest ever", especially as it relates to sports, is purely subjective, and you all know it. I could say that teams in the 70's, 80's or 90's were the greatest ever, and make a legitimate case for them.
And you want to call a team "dominant" who had to win their last two super bowls on last-second field goals? Hardly dominant.
So I wonder where they're gonna put their sideline cameras at the Super Bowl.
Of course, I can't root for the Giants, either. I'm just gonna root for the Patriots to lose.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Giants earned their way with three tough road wins, but something in me just can't throw my support behind either of these teams, so I'm just gonna root for the Patriots to lose.
P.S.
PLEASE! For all that is good and right in the world, FIX the Captcha thing!

Have to root for the Giants. Don't want to see the Patriots have more Super Bowl wins in this decade than the Cowboys did in the 90s. Plus, Tom Landry was once a player and a coach for the Giants. If it's not the Cowboys in the big game, I always pull for the NFC East team. Heck, I'd even pull for the Redskins if they were in the game instead of the Cowboys . . . thank God they're not there though! Go Giants!
Posted by J.L. @ 8:57 AM Mon, Jan 21, 2008
I'll definitely root for the Giants. They played a great game vs. NE in the season finale, and they should be able to do it again.
At first I wanted to see GB/NE, because all I kept hearing about was how GB's corners would be able to match up with NE. However, once I saw those highly praised corners being absolutely abused by Plaxico Burress yesterday, I quickly realized that GB would probably pose no threat at all to NE.
So, I have no trouble rooting for the Giants. Say what you want, but they've played great down the stretch. Plus, they represent the NFC East, which is also a good thing.

He CANT handle the pressure - you all think it, I know you do. He looked tight and scared against my GMEN. It's ok. you can put up your little NFC East banner while we go play in the Superbowl. DALLAS = CHOKERS

Yep, my week of mourning is over. I feel a little better now that the G-Men beat Green Bay. Give cred to the Giants, they beat the Boys and the Pack on the road. Even though I hate the Giants...if the Cowboys are not in there I always pull for the NFC or NFC East team...or a team that has never one an SB.
In this case...an entertaining SB first, but I sure would love the Cheatriots to lose the Ultimate Game. Would serve them and their arrogant, fawning fans right. Like the other posters...I would not want them to win their 4th in seven either. The cheaters don't deserve it.
This was a tough year to end for the Cowboys. Lets hope that next year...Romo and the Boys really get it together and make the last game at Texas Stadium an NFC Championship and open 2009 at the new JerryWorld as Super Bowl Champions.

all you "cowboys" fans who want to bash Romo, Phillips, Jessica, and whoever else should start rooting for the Pates today and stick with them...until someone else starts a dynasty, then jump on that bandwagon. If Romo sucks so bad, maybe we can bring back Carter, Hutch, or Henson. Better yet, maybe we can get the rights to Testeverde, Bledsoe or Simms off the big fat Tuna, since I'm sure he owns them. Also, how could anyone who claims to be a Cowboys fan bash Jerry Jones. Are you serious. There are more than 25 teams fanbases who would love to have this guy as an owner. At least he puts his $$$ where his mouth is. Show some loyalty and find some humility. I live in Eagles territory and I laugh at all the crackheads around here who say their team would be better w/o McNabb. Its a joke, and sounds silly. It makes fans sound uneducated. Thats what we're sounding like. If you guys think we'd be any better w/o Romo, Owens, Jerry Jones, etc. start rooting for the Patriots please.

seems to me that it is easy for Cowboys fan to root for the Giants--they are an NFC East team, and we beat them twice. Plus, if they win, they get a worse draft pick.
And really, what Dallas fan wants to here about how the Patriots are the Greatest Team of All Time? Plus, there will the requisite attempt to call them America's Team instead of Dallas.

For sure I will be pulling for Eli and the Giants. They went up to Green Bay and played in minue 4 degree weather and showed the packers how a team with heart can play. They deserve the credit because they won three games on the road, that they really should not have won, but they did. That has to prove they have heart and Eli is so cute and just because he does not have a Huge Ego as some phony type players do, why make fun of him? I personally love a puppy dog expression and I have not yet heard him whine or try to take credit for winning. He stays in the background. I think a very nice guy all around. Love Him.

Sometimes it was almost comical the way he would say things. Oops, Tom and Eli, sorry I didn't mean that. Will y'all let me come back and play in the Super Bowl?

Check this out...
In the AFC, there are 7 teams over .500: Patriots, Steelers, Browns, Colts, Jags, Titans, and Chargers. That's 43.75% of the teams. They had a cumulative record of 81-31 (72.32%). This means that there are 9 teams at or below .500 (56.25%). They have a cumulative record of 47-97 (32.64%). That's out of 256 games.
In the NFC, there are 6 teams over .500 (37.5%): Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Packers, Bucs, Seahawks. Their cumulative record is 64-32 (66.67%). The remaining 10 teams that are at or below .500 (62.5%), have a cumulative record of 64-80 (44.44%). Again, 256 games.
Now let's do this:
The cumulative win/loss of the teams that New England has played this year is 120 - 136 (46.875). Under .500. So they went 18-0 against teams with a cumulative losing record. And 7 of the teams were over .500. Three of them had more than 10 wins. I'd figure out strength of schedule, but I don't feel like doing that right now.
There's your mediocrity. I'm sure this would be very, very similar regardless of what team you picked.
Here's another interesting note for the regular season:
1 team 16-0
3 teams are 13-3
2 teams are 11-5
5 teams are 10-6
2 teams are 9-7
4 teams are 8-8
7 teams are 7-9
2 teams are 5-11
4 teams are 4-12
1 team is 3-13
1 team is 1-15
So 19 of the 32 NFL teams (59.38%) are at .500 or lower. 11 have 10 wins or more (34.38%).
The cumulative record of the Giants' opponents, on the other hand, is 132-124, or 51.56%.
So the Giants, cumulatively, played better teams.

I am going to root for a meteor to strike Glendale Arizona at 6:19 EST on Feb. 3rd, 2008. That would be the only way justice will be served.

RichardScribe stole my reply.
I was thinking more along the lines of halftime, though.
Passing on the Super Bowl for the first time in 32 years.

i'm hoping "Stone Cold" Steve Austin crashes the party and stuns both Manning and Brady. Now that would be "Super"
