Bobby Carpenter pretty much got a free pass after taking part in the Simpson Family Bye Week Fiesta, while folks freaked out about Tony Romo and (to a much lesser degree) Jason Witten having some fun in the sun. Carpenter didn't get any heat for two reasons: 1) His '70s-porn-style mustachioed mug didn't show up in the first wave of paparazzi photos to hit the web; 2) Most folks forgot that Carpenter still plays for the Cowboys. While Romo was spending extra time in the film room Monday, Carpenter bolted town again, jetting off to New Orleans to watch his alma mater get whupped in the BCS national championship game (along with Akin Ayodele and LSU alums Bradie James and Marcus Spears). Cross your fingers that Carpenter didn't take the Buckeyes' butt kicking too hard, because the Big Easy sure offers a lot of options for sorrow drowning. Just seems strange to me that folks are so worked up about an undrafted free agent's getaway when a first-round pick made that trip and followed it up by hitting America's best party city. |

"Romo, along with tight end Jason Witten and linebacker Bobby Carpenter, spent the weekend relaxing with Jessica Simpson in Mexico..."
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
I don't know 'bout y'all, but that statement from Mr. Archer's article, 'Dallas Cowboys' Romo gets in some extra study time', sounds like a gang-bang to me...
Posted by Mik @ 12:49 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
Romo gets crucified for getting away to seperate himself from the late-season funk and the playoffs, T.O. gets crucified for his Tour De France outfit, Romo gets crucified for dating Jessica Simpson. Emmitt Smith slept in a team meeting and wasn't cut... John Roper did and was cut. Michael Irvin overslept and missed the team charter to Detroit. Terrence Newman made a comment about John Kitna and bodily contact, Bill Parcells was crucified because he looked unhappy on the sideline while losing.
You know what all of these things have in common?
They have been among the most talked about things recently (the old stuff has been brought back) and not one of these things had any effect on one single final score.

Only if he starts dating Ashlee Simpson!

The Carpenter is worthless mantra in Dallas is beyond petty. There are surely better things to right about than to pick on the odd kid in the class.

Like the fact I cannot spell write.

Buddy: no, you spelled both "right" and "write" correctly, you just used one in the wrong place. ;)
Is anyone else getting tired of this attitude from the media (and too many fans) that the Cowboys have barely a chance to beat the Giants, and none at all without Owens? I mean, come on, I hope Owens is there and contributing, but are we really such a poor team that we can't possibly beat the Giants without him?
I guess our lowly role players, like Glenn, Witten, Barber, Crayton, not to mention our scrub of a Quarter Back who does nothing but party in Mexico every single by-week and has no focus whatsoever, can't be expected to beat the likes of a team that has played well two weeks in a row.
Our offensive line can't possibly be expected to hold up against the same withering attack that had us so flumoxed in the first two games. Our defense, true enough, needs to pick up, but that has nothing to do with Owens.
I hope we don't have to find out, but I just can't fathom this notion that we can't even figure out what a football is without Owens on the field to guide us.
PS I said it before and I'll say it again; you can think Al Breer for the captcha code thing. He's the one who convinced the DMN that it was needed, even though it clearly wasn't.
Posted by Parcells Guy @ 6:05 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
It's not "strange" that no one's upset about Carpenter because the guy barely plays.
It's not like the team will be relying on him the way it will Romo & Witten.
Posted by Mik @ 6:07 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
Rob, it's their job here at the paper. They're selling reaction, not news. And sadly we're all more than happy to oblige.
And Rob, Breer is a dork. Don't even try to understand why. It just is.
Oh by the way, for some reason I clicked on one of the video bloggings you guys did. Not half bad. Archer, McMahon, Breer... getting better at this sitting in front of a camera thing. Don't look lost like you used to. Taking some TV courses?
Posted by Leo @ 6:17 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
I wonder if Breer cries himself to sleep from all the comments about him on this blog! :D

Can we please move on to something else, I am tired of hearing about Mexico, Jessica Simpson, her former pastor now "PIMP" father, and her Trailer Trash Family. If you ask me ROMO ,could have did much, much, much, better however, I could care less about the mans private life, as long as it does not affect his play on the "FOOTBALL FIELD". I mean really is this a "NFL Football Blog" or a Fan outlet for "ALL MY CHILDREN" The Soap Opera!
Can the STAFF WRITERS FOR THIS BLOG PLEASE MOVE!!!! PLEASE!!!!
Posted by BlueZone @ 6:30 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
The Cowboys are tan, rested and ready. The Giants will limp into Romo's Coliseum and their season will be carried back to Jersey on a stretcher.
The only question is the final score, which will be a lot higher in favor of the Cowboys if either TO or JS show up.
Tim, since you specifically mentioned BC, is there a change in the 46/53 player activation policy for the playoffs???
???

From the pre-season till now under various blog posts I have asked, is Bobby Carpenter a Bust? or is he ever going to get any playing time?
The only way that this can be discussed is under this Silly Mexico Trip.
Cowboys Beat Writers can we please just Move ON from this Please!!!!

THE RAMS WILL TRADE TERRY HOLT FOR BOBBY CARPENTER. HAIL THE RAMS. HAIL ME FOR REPORTING THIS.
Posted by sassy lassie @ 7:46 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
It seems to me the only people who are complaining about the Romo getaway are those who aren't true Cowboys fans. It seems that since they are a winning team once again that many "bandwagoners" are the ones blowing this out of proportion.
Now, let's concentrate on the actually football stuff ;)

Two of our coaches went on three job interviews each...those take a lot of prep specific to each team...a couple of other coaches are involved in job speculation...I would think knocking off some quality trim, laying on a beach, and sipping a 'rita would be a lot less of a distraction than interviewing for major jobs...but that's just me

RAMS FAN
We have the original #81 and don't have any interest in washed up over the hill RAMS players.
But, maybe you should be worried if Atlanta or Miami gets him.
With all the "HAIL TO's" in your posts, sounds like you could be a "HAIL TO THE REDSKINs" fan?

Combine Scouting Report
___________is only 5-foot-9, 198 pounds. He ran only a 4.55 at the NFL Scouting Combine
He was a prep All-American after rushing for 5,265 yards and 92 total touchdowns
He became the "best running back ever to come out of the _____________ program," according to draft analyst Mel Kiper. He is tough and he is hard to tackle.
He also showed in Buffalo, when he had an 88-yard touchdown, that he is capable of the game-breaking run.
"He's a powerful little guy, he's low to the ground; he has very good balance; and he's a tough guy, too."
Emmitt Smith or Ahmad Bradshaw?
Bradshaw was busted twice. In 2004, the summer before he was supposed to play for Virginia but got kicked out instead, and busted again in 2006. He played only three years for Marshall but was still drafted in the 7th round despite the baggage. Legal trouble, kicked out of bigger school, ends up at Marshall, oh yeah, also happened to some guy named Moss. Look out!

Can people please stop responding to RAMS FAN's posts? It's clearly a joke by someone who really craves attention. But the constant same stupid stuff is pointless and annoying. I think the DMN should just delete it, it really isn't any different than the spam CAPTCHA is trying to avoid.
Posted by vee gee @ 9:19 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
The headline should read "WHEN will Bobby Carpenter be ready to play?" We are still waiting on this Bill Parcells pick to pan out.

Tod:
I am with you. But lets do the same for Al and Tim. It seems that they have nothing to talk about anymore. Al has some good stats knowledge and that does relate to the game. But the Jessica crap and the Messico trip are wearing on my very last nerve. I really had hoped to get some insight from these "sports guys", but all I see is Brittney Spears level trash. Maybe they will both be Texan of the Year next year, considering the low bar these idiots at the Dallas News have set.

What's the point of this story with carpenter? Why does the media insist on planting negativity into something so senseless! I blame the media for all this nonsense - Romo in Mexico, not focused, etc. Its all BS

Rams Fan,
Who exactly is 'Terry Holt'? My god, what kind of fan doesn't even know the names of the players. It's 'Tory Holt', not 'Terry Holt'. The Rams don't have any players named Terry Holt. The Cardinals have a FS named Terry (Terrance) Holt, but somehow I don't think they'd let the Rams trade him for Carpenter.

Tod,
I enjoy Ramsfan's posts. I'm pretty sure he's an alternate for a regular poster having some fun, I hope so at least, because it would be sad if someone was really that stupid and ignorant.

Bill in DC:
I actually think it's some diehard Cowboy fan blogger's younger sibling. Who else would have that kind of time and dedication to post here?
Everytime it happens, you can almost hear someone yell "Mooom, he's doing it agaaain!"
But Tod has a point - ignore it and it will go away. Check a few posts back - RF was actually whining and asking why people weren't responding to him.

I think it's Albert or Timmy trying to increase the posts to their blog.
Posted by Ken @ 10:18 AM Wed, Jan 09, 2008
It's obvious that Romo is only getting this attention because of who he is dating and the fact that he is the starting QB for America's Team. Had only Carpenter made this trip with his significant other, it never would have made headlines.

For of those of you not sure, RAMS FAN is "The DAMN VIKINGS" little brother. If you listen to THE TICKET, you'll know what I mean.
Jimmy Johnson is also referred to as Saint Jimmy so it's possible the the blog's Saint Jimmy could be Jimmy himself.
For the record, I liked RAMS FAN up to the point where the started Hailing himself.

I think Bobby Carpenter is the greatest deep snapper in Cowboys history. I only hope his time with Jessica doesn't send a snap over the kicker's head. No, Vox, not THAT HEAD!
