With the expected of hire of Brett Maxie, the Cowboys continue to diversify their coaching staff, with the new guys coming from varying backgrounds. For all the talk about "Capers guys" and "Garrett guys" and "Wade guys", Maxie seems to be, more than anything else, a "Jim Mora guy." The former NFL defensive back was an assistant under Mora when the now-Seahawks head-coach-in-waiting was DC in San Francisco and at the helm in Atlanta. Maxie was with the Niners from 1999-2003, then the Falcons from 2004-06, before working under Cam Cameron and Dom Capers last year in Miami. If there is one common thread on the new hires, it is Capers. Dave Campo, whom Maxie will work in the secondary with, is the only man on the defensive side of the ball who didn't work for him at one time. Defensive coordinator Brian Stewart, line coach Todd Grantham and linebackers coach Reggie Herring were Capers assistants in Houston. None of the new position coach have any experience working with Phillips. But Phillips did say a couple weeks back that many of Capers' zone-blitz concepts, developed during his "Blitzburgh" days, are used in his defense, so there is carryover in the schemes. |

yeah, like who will be our new Strong saftey, stuff like that.

Looks to me like this defensive staff is being set up for Capers to take over as defensive coordinator in 2009 from Brian Stewart when Garrett takes over from Wade Phillips as head coach.
Will be interesting to see what happens to Capers for 2008. That will tell us a lot.

Why does Bill_in_DC answer various posters with a word for word copy of what they said, without adding any meaningful thoughts or content?
Bill_in_DC looks like just another jerry-yes-puppet-butt-kisser; but one without any football knowledge.

How do you guys feel about Hamlin starting at SS and Wakins starting at FS?
Posted by Bill in DC @ 11:31 AM Mon, Feb 11, 2008
I think you can play 'six degrees of separation' with most coaches in the NFL. It's a small group so most likely somebody worked for somebody or was on the same staff will work for most.
Horace,
SS may be Hamlin's natural position and in a 3-4 it seems like the safeties need better coverage skills than in the 4-3 (although I could be completely wrong about that, it's just my impression), which may be Roy's problem.
Don't know if Watkins is capable of playing FS on a consistent basis. I think the book on him is he is inconsistent. Maybe he'd get better with more reps, dunno.
Heh, after watching Ware cover Winslow in the pro bowl, maybe we should have him play SS.

Bill in DC,
Did you see Roy at anytime in the secondary or did he just play on special teams? That worrys me. A probowl play that can't get on the field at his natural position. This coaching staff has some tough descission to make, if they want to improve the secondary.
I think Ware is a "beast". I'm glad Bill coached hem to be a complete linebacker.

Horace,
You mean in the pro bowl? Yes, he was there at SS in the first qtr.

Mr. BILL...I kinda like Bill in D.C....he seems to care...he's short and to the point on his posts...he is kind of a snippity snip always correcting others though...what I don't understand is how he knows so much about the Redskins...perhaps he's a double agent...FYI...we've lost tracking on TB...there may be justification in RAMS FAN being set up for an "accident"...TB is not using the polyester clip on tie this week...we were able to disguise a homing device as a mustard stain on that clip on...he must have changed ties...warn RAMS FAN...stay sharp Mr. BILL...
p.s....Is Maxie going to bring his "pads" with him when he coaches the Cow-Girls?...HA HA HA...[I know, its cheap and low but not beneath me]....Hail to the Redskins!!!...

Mr. Bill...I really loved your work in the 70's and 80's on Saturday Night Live...Good stuff...speaking of comedians, has anyone heard mroe than a soundbite from Captain Checkerpants™® over the last week or so? Yaah, I didn't think so...put down the lard rings and rinse out your mouth, Wade--the writings on the wall and next season will be your last as the Cow-Girls head coach...Hail to the Redskins!!!...
p.p.s....Mr. BILL, any truth to the rumor that you're responsible for the disappearance of The Great And Esteemed Mr. Tim Burns on these here blogs?!?!?!?
Posted by Roy for Fullback in 2008 @ 12:58 PM Mon, Feb 11, 2008
Hey did you guys see Roy kick that gunner out on Jason Witten's kickoff return? Since he can apparently block better than he can recogize routes, cover passes, make plays on the football, or tackle ball carries, maybe we should move him to a position that seems more suited to his natural blocking skills, fullback. I mean, I think he's probably the one guy on our defense who would be best on offense because he blocks his own guys out of the play all the time! I'm sure he could be just as effective there at fullback as he is at strong safety, and if not we can put Anderson in or motion Witten or Fasano into the backfield or just run some one-back sets and still have Kenny Hamlin at strong safety, his natural position. Sound like a good idea to anyone?

Tim Burns was completely embarrassed and has gone into hiding. Kind of like Tom Brady.
Looks as if his brothers Tim, Darrel and the rest of his entire family piled on till he could take it no more.
The last straw was his other brother Darrel: Bill_Burns_in_DC

Note to Horace in Huntsville,if in fact you can locate proof that Roy williams played yesterday please provide video proof.Your question would also be valid for the previous 17 games of this football season.

any concern that all these hires are coming from the horrific Houston teams then the Miami teams?
Posted by JMT @ 4:38 PM Tue, Feb 12, 2008
Even though I'm not a Cowboys fan, I think this hiring is nice to see. Maxie is a Dallas native and is a graduate of James Madison HS. Congratulations to him on coming back to Dallas to coach.
