Per Pro Football Talk, Jacksonville radio station 1010XL is reporting that Gregg Williams has agreed to become the Jaguars' defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

The Cowboys are still waiting for Dom Capers to decide whether he wants to accept an offer to join Wade Phillips' staff.

Jerry Jones is an idiot if he doesn't hurry up and pull the plug on B Stewart. How does Stewart think he has any say on who becomes a Cowboy coach, when the Head coach doesn't, and he (B Stewart) failed miserably this past year. If we do not land Don Capers, it would be a dissapointment.

Agree, need capers, no more screwing around

Posted by LoveMeSomeMe2 @ 3:13 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Get the Don & let it begin...keeping a 3-4 dude & a successful one at that. Also, w/Greg Williams going to Jacksonville, someone said in this blog earlier, about the next Super Bowl being Jacksonville vs. Dallas....I believe it more so now w/Williams going to Jacksonville...Dallas going, is a no-brainer.

Too bad about GG. Jerry should have fired Stewart and hired him.

Up here in Deadskin land, they are breathing a big sigh of relief.

Gregg probably also realized that Garrett is next in line for the head job and maybe expects to wait out Del Rio.

Second post try:

CAPTCHA and Crayton still sucks!!!

No prob....Was he not a 4-3 guy anyway? I thought Wade was the real D.C.?

Posted by hophead929 @ 3:27 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Good deal. Being a 4-3 guy he was not a good fit. He's also a bit of an egomaniac, which isn't good for a position coach.

Hire Capers ASAP to be the defensive coordinator. Also, fire Wade Phillips, and name Steve Spagnola head coach. Did you see how he shut down the Pats. I HATE the Giants, and I was impressed.

I agree with Bill ^. Get Mickey Spagnola's brother in here as HC ASAP! And while your at it bring in Floyd-Engel's sister as LB coach, and Dale Hansen's bartender as the equipment manager. Bring em all in! including Galloway's pet rat as Quality Assurance Coordinator!

Posted by WilliamC @ 4:13 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Tell you what, if Dom Capers doesnt join the cowboys it will be because of Brian Stewart telling him he would not be "comfortable" with Capers coming on board.

Jerry needs to fire Stewart immediately and bring in Capers as Defensive Coordinator.

How are we gonna live with Stewart this year if we know he is the reason the boys didn't get Capers?
Fire this guy Jerry.

Umm, I think you guys are not understanding what is happening. The issue is not that Jerry hasn't decided if he should hire Capers, it is Capers has not decided if he should accept the Cowboys offer. So the knee-jerk lambasting of Jerry is somewhat out of whack.

Bill,

You don't simply 'name' people to be the coach. In point of fact Spagnuolo did not shut down the Pats. The Giants defensive players did that. While you're at it you might as well tell Jerry to 'name' the players on the Giants D to the Cowboys.

Personally, I think if we get the right CB and use Kevin Burnett as the ILB instead of Akin, the Dallas D might be better than the Giants.

Posted by cowboy in HI @ 4:31 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Not sure if this is possible as I believe he is still under contract, but why don't we try to get Mike Singletary for LB coach? He has experience working under the 3-4, he demands respect, and he is a true motivator. We don't need me more cooks in the kitchen (Capers), but could use someone to give this team a spark and toughness.

Alright alright alright. Congrats to Greggo, and I hope he stays clean in Jax-town.

If Jerry pulls plug, what is he classified then?
1)genius 2)smart 3)dummy 4)idiot 5)moron 6)retard

If you had said "Jerry would be wise to..."
but you didn't so you get a #5.

this is kind of relevant from a posting by the good Dr. Z today:

XXIV (1990) 49ers 55, Broncos 10 -- Denver defensive coordinator Wade Phillips supposedly was a serious head coach prospect, but it took him four years after this debacle to land a job. What I remember best was strong safety Dennis Smith covering Jerry Rice when he lined up in the slot. Oy! Five TD's for Joe Montana.

does Wade's defensive playbook have "ACME" written across the top?...

Posted by Glenn Guillory @ 4:59 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Who does Dom Capers think he is? The Cowboys should take back their offer and move on to the next candidate.

Posted by BReed @ 5:57 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Answer to Guillory: probably the DC for New York Giants!!!!

Posted by dsiff @ 6:44 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

Jerry should have fired Stewart back in camp when the idiot ran his guys without stretching them first. Was it Hatcher that got hurt? I can't remember.JJ jumped his *ss and should have known right then to fire him. However,BS is Wade's guy. Can't ruffle any feathers...

Posted by GetOverIt @ 7:17 PM Tue, Feb 05, 2008

I'm with the anti-Stewart folks. This guy is an "average" D-coord anyway and only came since Wade was familiar with him.

Now that Williams is gone, Capers should be a "no-brainer" to get in here as D-coord. So Steward goes and whimpers off to some other team. He won't be missed.

He has all these 1st round picks and yeah, there were some injuries, but good coaches still make players in their system even with back-ups. Stewart didn't accomplish that.

Posted by jtt @ 5:28 AM Wed, Feb 06, 2008

Good thing that Williams decided on Jacksonville, not a good fit here with Wade (personalities would clash); Capers would rather join the Giants and reunite with Coughlin, would do away with the Stewart awkwardness issue and would be the D-coordinator from the get-go. He got wind that Snyder wanted Spag%$#@! as his head coach, opening the coordinator position in New York.

Dallas' loss will be the Giants gain. Capers is very capable and was succesful as HC as well; would have been a good fit for us...........timing is everything in life!!

Posted by Vox Veritas @ 6:31 AM Wed, Feb 06, 2008

RR, how is something from 18 years ago relevant today? Joe Montana and Jerry Rice torched a lot of teams back in the day. They were the champs! Unlike the 2007 Patriots, who hung a 52-7 score on the 3rd place Deadskins.

Will Gregg Williams like his new gig? I mean, will he like his job?

That wasn't the question.

Will Gregg Williams like his new gig? I mean, will he like his job?

That wasn't the question. i’m excited to be joining the Jaguars and Jack Del Rio's staff,” Williams said, “and I’m looking forward to getting started in Jacksonville. I was there for the organization’s first game in 1995 as well as a lot of other memorable moments, and have had great respect over the years for the ownership and the players and coaches and their success. This is a very, very good team and a tremendous opportunity.”
