Sheriff Goodell to put Pacman on hold

AP

Pacman Jones has voiced a request to join the Valley Ranch circus, but he'll have to convince tough-on-crime commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate him first. And ESPN reports that it won't be easy, citing sources that say Sheriff Goodell is unlikely to reinstate Jones immediately.

The Titans reportedly told Jones and his representatives that they'll try to trade him after he's reinstated. I can't imagine teams offering anything more than a conditional late-round pick.

UPDATE: Pacman's attorney told The Tennesseean that his client wants to stay with the Titans now. Judging by Jeff Fisher's comments over the last year, I don't believe that feeling is mutual.

ROFL, Any team that actually trades a draft choice for that walking disaster should have its owner committed, or should take legal action to wrest the team ownership from him on the grounds of mental competency.

'Pacman' is a classic of this era, an immensely talented individual who was allowed to remain a petulant child specifically because of that talent. I think he is irredemable. Look how long it took for TO to grow up and become a man.. he's 33 and only in the last year has he started to act like an adult. Pacman is worse.

I am sure all the strippers in Dallas are waiting with baited breadth.

Tipping volume$$$$ will go through the roof.

Right now he is as valuable as Enron stock.Maybe somebody in the Arena league will sign him for a thug day promotion

If you have ever seen Pac-Man interviewed on television it becomes very clear that Mr. Jones has no notion of any questionable(mostly by the police)behavior that he may have been involved in. Great talent, but the Cowboys should stay far away from Adam Jones.

Posted by Redskins_Rule @ 12:51 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

if he does come to the Cowboys Jerry should put a strong, influencing teammate around him to kinda be his chaperone...somebody like Keith "just driving home from 'church' at 3:30 a.m. when out of nowhere's my ride is filled with hot lead" Davis. That should keep him out of trouble. HA HA HA...Hail to the Redskins [30:1 odds baby!!!]...

Yeah and now Congress wants to bring Breer's ol' buddy Goodell in to explain WHY he destroyed the videotapes the Patriots illegally taped.

Goodell is in so tight with the scumbags from New England, they could murder someone and still get away with it.

Explain:one coach CHEATS yet just gets a slap on the wrist, another coach uses a substance medically yet gets a 4 game suspension. One player commits SEVERAL personal penatlies yet only gets fined every time, another player commits a personal foul yet gets SUSPENDED and FINED.

That's how Mafia don Goodell treats the Patriots versus the Cowbgoys! Good thing congress sees through this unmoral garbaged heap!

Posted by L.J. @ 1:16 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

I'm thinking that the Pacster just wants to play football. If that is the case, then where better to play than Dallas and Nashville?

Posted by Bill in DC @ 1:23 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

Profootballtalk rumor mill syas there is a former Pats video flunkie (now working in an unrelated field) who 'knows' about the extent of the Pats filming practices going back to 1996, but will not talk because he is afraid of lawsuits. If Congress brings him in an gives him immunity it could get REALLY ugly, depending on what he says.

Being caught cheating in one or two games is one thing, having done it over a period of years is an entirely different ball of wax.

I would be all for a Roy Williams for Pacman trade. Jerry deserves criticism for the '90s Cowboys, but he also deserves credit for the '00s Cowboys. He has put together a program with Calvin Hill that has kept the Cowboys players out of the news for the most part. Now, players like TO and Tank can come play and get some guidance. I say give Pacman a shot with the condition that he hits the road the very first moment there is even an inkling that he is screwing up again.

I gotta agree with Goodell_is_Hitler. What was the rush to destroy the tapes? What was on the tapes that was so damaging to the Patriots or the league that Goodell had to make sure no one saw it? Did they prove the other allegations like defensive linemen being miked up to get the QB's calls at the line? Did they show that the Patriots benefited enough to pull out 3 Super Bowl wins by 3 points each? Someone needs to question Goodell about those things on top of his subjective suspensions. How many personal fouls does Wilford have to commit before he gets a suspension? Has he received a letter? I guess he needs a rule named after him before the NFL will really punish him for his intent to injure other players (Losman, anyone?).

Posted by John @ 4:10 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

OH I'm sure Jerry is hard at work on it... yet another ego and player that'll further divide an already large locker room.

This isn't a team.. it's a collection of prima donnas...

"Coach" Jones needs to think about chemistry, getting players to pull together in the same direction rather than whine about contracts {ELLIS} and blame others for their lack of productivity {Julius JONES}. This team is a freakin' walking distraction.

Posted by mick @ 4:45 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

Yea but we dont hear about Ellis being in any T-Bars local or Vegas expressing "Keeping it REAL" after getting Mean-Mugged as for Julius J. well he's in his own World of Disappointment.

Posted by bobston bob @ 5:55 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

Dispite the $750,000 dollars in fines. Dispite the lost of a draft pick. If the pats end-up as champs sunday. I`m sure they`ll say it was worth it.

Posted by GWB @ 6:27 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

Adam "Pacman" Jones is a talented football player. He could immediately improve a football team's secondary. He needs a change of scenery in the worst way. I firmly believe the Cowboys have the support system in place to help a gifted player like Pacman, with a history of off-field problems. I live in Nashville. The talk shows here will finally have to report on real football news instead of the daily Pacman jokes. I say sign him for a 6th or 7th round conditional draft pick. His next encounter will most likely end his NFL playing days. More than enough incentive to steer clear of trouble. Sometimes people mature. Give the player a chance to do what he is gifted to do.

No Pac-Man here. He is a thug who will end up in prison for most of his life>Maybe he can hook with Vick.

I too am perturbed over Goodell's handling of the Patriots spying this year. It sickens me to think of the visual of him handing the Lombardi trophy over to a drunk Robert Kraft.

Can we sign a petition to have an * put next to the Patriots in all literature and T-shirts?

P.S. Free agency in 4 weeks

umm, I'm sorry Jim. I'm getting my own cr@p too, so there is one less Burns here from now on.. Sorry y'all.

The Commish is much tougher on players and some coaches than he is with the Patriots. Hmm, could it be that the Patrriots helped get him elected.
Here is a question. Will anybody watch the ProBowl?

Posted by Redskins_Rule @ 10:30 PM Fri, Feb 01, 2008

did Wade Phillips ever coach for the Titans? That's him right giving the "We're #1 sign" while PacMan is doing his Deion impression while taking it to the house?...HA HA HA...Hail to the Redskins!!!...

hey when pacman is comes back someone will give him a chance.why not dallas? who has a pretty good history of turning players around. maybe trade roy williams who seems to have forgotten how to cover and tackle.and he can punt return and be hafe way effective.

Posted by Bill in DC @ 8:58 AM Sat, Feb 02, 2008

John,

my answer to your question is -- how many turds or potential turds can a team have before the teams ability to influence them is reversed and they influence the team? We already have some potential turds and yes, Dallas has been successful in 'turning them around', but this is, I suspect, because 1) the numbers are low so 'good' players have more influence, and 2) those guys were carefully chosen for their desire to turn things around. I see no evidence that Pacman has any desire to 'turn things around'. He still engages in denial and childish 'blame everybody else' for his troubles. Until he 'owns' responsibility for his past behavior and shows a desire to change I think Dallas would be crazy to take him. Let some other team reap the whirlwind.

Like alcoholics the first step for him is to admit HE is the problem, he isn't doing that.

Posted by michael in Chicago @ 10:10 AM Sat, Feb 02, 2008

I would trade a late round pick for the guy with a clause in the contract that states if he's even arrested for jaywalking he would lose his signing bonus and the contract will be forfeited. He's an arrogant jackass, but who cares if he gets his act together and grows up. If T.O. can grow up while in Dallas, anyone can. The Dallas defense with Pacman on one side and Newman on the other side would be scary. Then use a first round pick on a speedy CB to cover slot guy's like Welker and the defense would dominate.

Posted by necro @ 11:00 AM Sat, Feb 02, 2008

Bring Pac in. Sign him to a contract that pays him on a game by game basis at the league minimum and he must play under these conditions for at least two seasons. No signing bonus, no incentives. During that time if he screws up he's gone and probably never to play for any NFL team again. Somebody is going to sign the guy and it may as well be us. But even if he does come here go ahead and get another corner (draft/FA) because in todays NFL with all the spread offenses you just can't have enough good cover guys.

Posted by Mik @ 3:30 PM Sat, Feb 02, 2008

Oh come one jeez. If Jones brings him in he'll do exactly what he did with other "sure to be trouble makers". He'll treat them like a man, give them dignity and respect and give him a chance based on where he could go rather than where he's been.

He's not gonna put an ankle bracelet on him with a puny contract loaded with incentives like you all thought Owens was gonna get. You people tend to get quite melodramatic with this kind of thing.

Know this: If Pacman becomes a Cowboy it's because he truly wants to have a fresh start in football and you don't have to insult him with sanctions. If he's not ready he won't be a Cowboy so you people have NOTHING to worry about one way or the other.

Keep dreaming, michael in chicago. Keep dreaming.

Posted by StarInWV @ 7:10 AM Sun, Feb 03, 2008

yep, with Pacman's history, he will be a bargain like Tank Johnson. We could use his talent in the secondary. If Jerry wants him, he'll get him. And Pac will be a starter.
