Wade's seat

ESPN.com's Mike Sando, of Hashmarks fame, took notice of our taking notice of his omission of Wade Phillips from his coaching column.

I'd agree wholeheartedly with Mike -- who shares the Hashmarks throne with Cowboys Blog alum Matt Mosley -- that Wade doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the hanging-by-a-thread set of NFL coaches. It's only fair that Phillips gets credit for a four-game improvement over the team's 2006 performance.

But judging by Jerry Jones' actions over the last month, as detailed by our esteemed columnist JJT, I think it's fair to say that an escape route has been paved by ownership that will make a transition to Jason Garrett easy.

Now, Wade's got his shot to make it happen and keep the job. Still, it's important to know that windows of opportunity are short in the NFL, even for a roster as rich as the Cowboys' is now, and Jerry's never been hesistant with his trigger finger. And while the expectations that are carried with being coach of this franchise couldn't be higher, and play into this, it's not just here that successful regular seasons become irrelevant with playoff failure.

In San Diego, it happened last year. Marty Schottenheimer was fired after a 14-2 regular season. This year, the Chargers went 11-5. And a round further in the playoffs. Ask anyone in Chargerland which one they'd rather have, and the response you'll get is the same as it would be in Dallas.

ROFL, WHA, WHa!!

I can show you holding on almost every play in the NFL. This makes as much difference as that silly petition NE fans are all signing.

But can you show me two? That are directly 'on the ball?' On a play that had a greater impact on the history of the NFL?

Didn't think so...

The Patsie fans are an embarrassment. Their line spent a season holding without getting called, and they are carping now? They better get used to losing, rather than making excuses. Fortunately for all football fans, the Sox will distract them soon enough, and lead them down a different primrose path.

A Cowboys fan stuck in New England - look! there goes Swiftie ...

Kirby,

I can see why you spares are so upbeat. After all you guys won the division - 13-3, right? Nice Decembers you boys have strung together to.

Speaking of carping...last I checked no member of the Pats - let alone the head coach - stated that 'the better team didn't win.'

BTW...thats five SB's and counting since you last won a playoff game. Enjoy that 22nd pick in the draft...

Go Celts!!

I didn't say the Pats were embarrassment. Their fans are. Too many of you weren't around for the Packer's fiasco, or even better - for those of us "old" enough - the Tony Eason LVP against the Bears. Learn to lose. Winning is easy. I'm guessing that you aren't a Sox fan, otherwise you would know that. Maybe you weren't alive in '86 or '78.

You'd better hope that Garnett and Schilling both get better, or you'll it'll be the Bruins bringing Boston their next championship (in 2020-something).

Laughing at you and the big O,

Kirby

Was sitting in the right field stands in '86 when the sox clinched the division. I know the pain associated with that season quite well. Actually lived in Wisconsin when Desmond Howard derailed the SB comeback in '96. I know losing quite well unfortunately. New Englander's aren't like Texan's who bail on their team when they are losing. Embarassing is having 12K in your ballpark every night. We stick around to feel the pain...it makes the winning that much more enjoyable.

Garnett will be fine. We dont need Schill to win. We have more major league ready arms than any team in the league - including one of your good 'ol Texas boys who threw a no hitter for us last year.

All Yankee's should get off this blog. Do ya'll
not have any up there? Get a grip. Boston, New
York, and Philly should get better news so that
their so called fans can have a place to go. Get
out of here communists...

Excellent - ye of the changing IDs. You do know your sports. So you know that no one reading this blog gives a damn about the Patriots. Go to DirtDogs and post your Patriot wiles there.

And this spring, see you at Fenway. Sadly, I think you will find that you do need the Schill this year. We'll see about Garnett. A Celts/Mavs final would almost make up for the Cowboys/Patsies Super Bowl that wasn't.

Waiting for the snow,

Kirby

Monkey-boy,

Don't assume that all of us consigned to living north of the Mason-Dixon line are Yankees. You moron. Some of us were born and raised in the Great State.

My dad just talked to Jerry and he said that he has told Wade, win or else. This includes the playoffs. 1 and done will not cut it in big D . My dad said he will be fired and dad really wants a shot at the job and has toldd Jerry as much. He deserves a shot at it I think. He knows everything and I hope Jerry can see that or my dad tells him.

Most Excellent post again Bill_jr_dude_in_DC.

You've topped today's post by our friends pinky_and_the_brain_in_DC.

And what scoreboard does Bill_sr think he's winning?

brain_in_DC will need a newer plan.
