Bill Parcells started with the Cowboys' front office, wooing personnel executives Jeff Ireland and Brian Gaine to Miami. Then he took what he wanted from the coaching staff, hiring Tony Sparano as the Dolphins' head coach and Todd Bowles, Paul Pasqualoni and Kacy Rodgers as assistants. Now, it's on to the roster. The Tuna's efforts to trick Jerry into trading Marion "The Barbarian" Barber have been well chronicled. Don't be surprised if the Dolphins go after a couple more Cowboys' Pro Bowlers during free agency. Miami is in the market for a free safety. Ken Hamlin wants a big contract after playing for the relative bargain price of $2 million and change last season. Hamlin also has a ton of respect for Bowles. LT Flozell Adams is a Sparano guy, so it wouldn't be stunning if he decided to rejoin his O-line coach in Miami. Hindsight being 20/20, Ellis is glad that the Tuna didn't listen. Ellis, coming off a career-high 12.5-sack season, during today's press conference about the 10-year veteran's first Pro Bowl berth. He smiled and stared into the cameras before answering. "Appreciate it, Bill," Ellis said. "It was a good move, and I owe a lot to you." While walking down the hallway after the press conference, Ellis said he hasn't chatted with Jerry since the season ended, so he's uncertain about his future with the Cowboys. The fact of the matter is he's under contract and, barring unforeseen circumstances, will form one of the league's best pass-rushing tandems with DeMarcus Ware again. Wade Phillips has indicated that the Pro Bowler will keep his starting job, so Ellis shouldn't have anything to worry about. He offers the pitting of Parcells disciples Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin in the Super Bowl as proof. And JJT sees a lot of evidence of the Tuna's genius around these parts, too. In the process of going 13-3 and winning their first NFC East title since 1999, the Cowboys forced me to reevaluate my thoughts on the job Parcells did in his four years in Dallas. "We're open for business," new Miami GM Jeff Ireland said. Cowboy fans, cross your fingers that Jerry doesn't let his lust for Arkansas RB Darren McFadden cloud his judgment. Whether or not you think D-Mac will be a gamebreaker in the NFL, the Cowboys would have to give up way too much to move to the top of the draft. According to Jimmy Johnson's draft-pick value chart, the No. 1 pick has a value of 3,000. Nos. 22 (780) and 28 (660) don't even add up to half of that. Jerry was kind enough to let Ireland go to Miami without seeking compensation. He's done enough for the Dolphins. No sense in letting Bill Parcells talk him into contributing a slew of draft picks to Miami's rebuilding efforts for the right to pick an RB who would split time here. John Tomase of the Boston Herald has this look at the relationship between Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who were staffmates under Tuna from 1988-90. “I had a good rapport with both of them,” said then-Giants offensive coordinator Ron Erhardt. “Bill was a very astute guy. We talked all the time about what he was doing or what I was doing. We both had refreshing ideas to try different things. “Tom and I went over everything in the passing game. He had to have his receivers do a lot of blocking, because we ran the ball a lot. He worked hard at it. You know how he is.” In their final year together with Parcells, before leaving for head coaching opportunities, Coughlin and Belichick helped the Giants win Super Bowl XXV. Also on that staff? Virginia head coach Al Groh, Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis and Browns head coach Romeo Crennel. At the very least, this is an interesting thing to look at with the newer branches of Parcells' coaching tree (i.e. Payton, Sparano) taking root. Sources inform Calvin "Lucky" Watkins that DL coach Kacy Rodgers has accepted the offer from the Dolphins. That makes four coaches and two front-office executives that Bill Parcells relocated from Valley Ranch to South Beach. The entry "Tuna's Valley Ranch raid might be done" is tagged: Brian Gaine , Jeff Ireland , Kacy Rodgers , Paul Pasqualoni , Todd Bowles , Tony Sparano Tim Graham of the Palm Beach Post has this look at the Dolphins reshaping their image with much of the infrastructure that built these Cowboys in place. And let's just say that some feelings still seem hurt. "Those are (Bill Parcells') people," said Larry Lacewell, Jerry Jones' draft man for more than a decade, before he was replaced by Jeff Ireland in the Tuna Regime. "He hired David Lee. He hired (Tony) Sparano. He hired (Brian) Gaine. This is his show more than it is a Cowboys deal. No, the Dolphins didn't. As for everyone else the Tuna wanted ... Speaking on his freshly-minted four-year deal to stay a Dallas Cowboy, WR Patrick Crayton addressed the hypothetical of joining Bill Parcells in Miami, had the receiver hit the market in March. Parcells and Crayton may not have had the best relationship in world while the Tuna was here. But Parcells has taken a while to grow on guys in the past -- guys like Terry Glenn -- who wound up following him around the league. Crayton won't be joining up with the Tuna. Still, we have a sign here that he may have considered it in different circumstances, given the confidence he seems to have Parcells' ability to turn things around. "I think a lot of people had that speculation, with any former Parcells player," Crayton said of the possibility of going to Miami if he'd hit the market. "He’s back, he’s got, pretty much, control of the reins over there. And you know he’s going to definitely get that organization back where it needs to be, because it’s in the dumps right now. "They’re 1-14, I mean, Shula might not be sleeping well tonight, Dan Marino, any of those guys, Mark Duper, (Mark) Clayton. They might not be sleeping too well, to see what’s going on over there." The entry "Crayton says Parcells will get it done" has no entry tags. Jean-Jacques Taylor says that Bill Parcells is going to make a big difference in Miami. In fact, JJT went as far as guaranteeing the Dolphins will be in the AFC title game four years from now. I'm not making that up.
