Cowboys jinxed by bikini-clad blonde beauty

10:55 PM Tue, Feb 12, 2008 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Bad news, folks: Cowboys cheerleader Christina Parker graces the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover, right by the S. While the team's official site puts its typical positive spin on the story, everybody knows about the SI cover jinx.

Might as well make that franchise-record playoff win drought an even dozen seasons.

Feel free to comfort yourself by checking out the local gal's SI.com photo gallery. If you wanna see a little more skin, view the beautiful slideshow of her dallascowboys.com photo shoot on the Rivera Maya.

Speaking of blonde babes with Cowboys ties who made memorable trips to Mexican beaches, I look forward to the swimsuit edition that features the future Mrs. Romo in the athletes' wives section.

Fassel right about blog power

JOHN F. RHODES / DMN

Unlike Massachusetts native Albert "Einstein" Breer, I'm not thin-skinned, so my feathers aren't ruffled by Jim Fassel's accusations that bloggers cost him the Redskins gig.

Plus, I know that Fassel is right. Bloggers have a whole lot of pull in NFL coaching searches. Look no further than this here blog for proof.

I was on the Wade Phillips bandwagon from the get-go. Jerry held hands with old pal Norv Turner at the Hall of Fame, but he hired Bum's boy based primarily on my advice.

Now, Coach Wade critics might point out that Turner's Chargers played in a conference championship game while the Cowboys had the weekend off. But the Cowboys were the clearly surperior team. Just look at the winning percentages -- Cowboys (13-4, .765); Chargers (13-6, .684).

Anyone out there?

I have a message for anyone still at the Super Bowl. If you've seen Albert Breer tell him to come home.

His family still loves him.
He still has co-workers who well ... I guess tolerate him.

If Jean-Jacques and Tim are still in Phoenix, maybe you guys can drive around Glendale and look for Albert.

Albert come home.

The landlord needs his rent money.

My man Albert Breer is on suicide watch.

Anybody who lives in downtown Dallas please stop by his place to make sure he's OK.

A worthless post on a Tuesday night

There's no ryhme or reason to the timing of this post, but I'm going to put it up anyway.

I'm talking with a coaching friend of mine about what the best football coaching cliches are. And we've covered a bunch of things -- the overuse of the word "football", saying "now" for emphasis, etc.

So I thought I'd use the blog to turn it over to you. Hit the comments section and post the football cliches you like, dislike, or are just plain annoyed by. Then, tomorrow, I'll rank the top 10. Got it? Good.

That's one loose locker room

The highlight of the today's media access period in the locker room was a wrasslin' match between receivers Sam Hurd and Isaiah Stanback. It got pretty rowdy with the players and media forming a circle around the combatants, and OT Marc Colombo's sound effects added a nice touch to the atmosphere.

Hurd and Stanback agreed that it ended in a draw, but Stanback said he took it easy so Hurd wouldn't be sidelined on Sunday.

"I haven't brought out my spear yet," Stanback said. "He'd be down for a little bit. We don't need that now. Sam's been helping us out a lot, so we don't need his midsection messed up."

Both parties have agreed to a rematch, time and date to be determined.

UPDATE: Hurd told reporters that he has internal bleeding despite Stanback not busting out the spear. "It ain't over!" Hurd said.

She's baaaaaaack!!!!!

The wonderfully talented Ines Sainz of TV Azteca has returned to Valley Ranch today.

Rumor has it that she's trying to land an exclusive interview with Tony Romo. Sure hope that happens, since it could lead to a catfight with Jessica Simpson.

I'm starting to wonder whether Ms. Sainz was sent here by the Giants to distract the Cowboys. Lawrence Taylor was known to send beautiful women to the opposing team's hotel the night before the game, so don't put it past the G-Men.

More hard-hitting football analysis to come after our hour in the locker room.

The truth

While many of you think I'm a Giants, fan, I'm not.

The truth is I'm from New York. Born and raised until I was 14. Moved back there in my late 20s. Most of my family lives in NYC. Favorite city in the world.

Anyway, I enjoyed needling Cowboys' fans with my Go Big Blue reference a few weeks back.

My favorite team is no body's business. I think Albert and Timmy and Arch know.

You have to ask them.

Then again, I don't even know if you guys care.

Think you were upset on Sunday watching the Cowboys get whooped by the Redskins? Probably not as much as these guys were.

What, there weren't enough Redskins fans to mix it up with?

Heading over to Bank of America Stadium

Albert "Einstein" Breer and I are about to go check out the scene outside Bank of America Stadium. Supposed to be a really cool tailgating environment around these parts, with the stadium smack dab in the middle of downtown.

Expect to see a whole bunch of these and these. Don't you think the Santa hat is a nice touch?!

Cricket's No. 1 with his No. 2

5:19 PM Thu, Dec 13, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

Rookie fullback Deon "Cricket" Anderson is on the injured reserve, but that doesn't mean he's done competing this season.

Cricket's rotator cuff has recovered enough for him to defend his title as the Cowboys' pencil fighting champion. He has a No. 2 pencil that has lasted through all the battles since he arrived at Valley Ranch. (Cricket's secret: Remove the eraser and bend the metal tip to make it sharp.)

"Bring it!" Cricket hollered at OL Cory Procter in the middle of the locker room. "I'm welcoming all challengers!"

Crunk new Cowboys song

9:58 PM Wed, Dec 12, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

I'm not certain "crunk" is still an acceptable ebonic term, but if it is, then it describes this litte rap ditty by D-Town's Lil Cayne: How You Feel '(Wyde Up).

The song, which is getting play on local hip hop stations and in da clubs, is an ode to the Cowboys that was released last month. I could be wrong, but I believe Wyde Up can be translated to wired up, which could be the new "crunk" for all I know.

Also, the lyrics refer to T.O. as a "fool," but I'd be willing to bet that the term is being used in the complimentary sense, as in funny, entertaining dude.

Lil Cayne, please feel free to correct any of the above 411. Word.

Fun with the assistant head coach's name

10:47 AM Tue, Dec 11, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

ESPN ha-ha specialist Kenny Mayne noticed that Cowboys assistant head coach/OL coach Tony Sparano's name sounds a lot like a TV mobster's name and had some fun with it.

I always thought The Sparanos would be a good nickname for the Dallas offensive line. Especially since Rob Pettiti and Jason Fabini were whacked over the last couple years.

Folks who frequent this here blog know Sparano is much more than a guy with a cool name. He's the reason you don't need to worry yourselves sick that Jason Garrett is going to leave for a head gig after this season.
